And this creates a perfect system to balance the game around. Bondsmen won't have access to premium clan tech from day 1. They'll have to work their way up the chain through a loyalty system (already going to be in place for IS houses). This loyalty will gain them access to higher level clan tech (heavier chassis, more expensive weaponry, etc).
This will give the IS warriors a chance in PvP content. The clanners will have restricted weapons/mechs at the onset of the invasion event.
As clanners level up their loyalty, the average level could be used as a guidepost to IS tech changes. New mechs and weapons could be released to the IS players to help them keep up with the clan tech. Occasionally, clan mechs and weapons could even show up for sale.
This system would help preserve balance of power in the matches. It would also preserve the canon a bit. The clans take pride in fighting larger targets, and of course the entire idea of bondsmen.

Now we're using our noodle. Good ideas.

I think it would actully fit in nicely to the idea the OP has. Only the true die hards would pay for it. Giving the chance to turn the invasion into something big.
This would be a terrible idea - Pay2Win. I don't want to be disadvantaged in a way I can never make up by playing better.

Good luck with that:
Clan Smoke Jaguar will never allow freeborns to pilot any mechs.
Clan Jade Falcon gives you a nice civilian job, you will never leave unless your brother comes to save you.
Clan Ghost Bear will kill you on sight if your are a Merc.
Clan Wolf will allow you to join if you are really good.
Clan Nova Cat is a bit more light hearted, but won't show up till 3051.
Clan Steel Viper only allows trueborns into their military.

As far as the mechs, I guess there's a lot of different options. Allow inner sphere to buy them so they can use them as a clanner or inner sphere member, or make their mechs different skins tantamount to the loadout you have on your inner sphere mech.
The only other option I see is like previously mentioned make them A.I. So you can have the enjoyment of fighting against superior technology.

The problem is how hard it'd be to balance clan tech without screwing with the canon. You could segregate clan and IS players and force a numerical advantage for IS...but nobody wants to be on the cannon fodder side, everyone wants to be the overpowered superheroes. So then you have 5000 people who want to play clan and 500 who want to play IS, which ruins the whole idea of 8 clan vs 12 IS.
You could give IS an advantage via gametypes...for example have them defending a fortified position, give them NPC allies, or allow them to bring a backup mech to drop in with after the first is destroyed. But this would be really hard to balance.
Finally they could give IS technology other advantages rather than being simply cheaper, even if it means stretching the canon. For example since lasers do damage over (a short period of) time, have the IS laser do its damage more quickly even if the clan version does more over time. Or give IS autocannons faster refire rates, or special ammo types or something. This is an ideal solution IMO as it could also let people mix and match clan and IS tech freely, even if the latter is much harder to get for IS players.

While this would actually fit the theme of the clan invasion in a way, I'm glad the devs don't agree with this and I hope they never change their minds.

That is essentially what it breaks down into. People simply want their tech and not actual clanners (for the most part)
If offered, I'd join the Ghost bears, one of the few clans to still maintain their traditional fighting on Tukayyid and still pull more of a victory than any other clan (except those stinkin wolves). However I'm going to be just happy kickin all yer clanner arses back beyond the edge of the IS.

No more than a tiny handful of players will play Clans in any way that resembles Clan tactics. The vast majority of them want to play Clans only for the OP Mechs while spouting nonsense about "honour".

As I mentioned earlier, I don't think Piranha has the manpower to be designing all kinds of mechs that won't be playable by everyone. They've got their work cut out for them just getting 10 or so ready for open beta.
Battletech fans may be a little crazy (and rightfully so) but I don't think you'll be seeing too much of that honor-spouting nonsense amongst 99% of the playerbase. Although it would be fun.
You're right about the OP mechs though, and that's what the devs need to watch out for. These forums might be full of guys who'd love to experience Tukayyid for themselves and kick the Clans out of the IS personally, but most people will just go with whatever looks like it's the best. Ever played Armored Core 5? Dunno if it's been patched yet, but that series has great customization yet almost everybody was using the exact same parts. Because they were just slightly better than everything else. It had nothing to do with people looking up information on message boards etc...you could do it by accident.

In MW4 for instance, clan mechs had bigger, easier to hit CTs. This, in combination with things like RACs, X-pulse and Heavy Gauss, made it reasonably well balanced.
Any solution that has a subset of the community with blatantly OP equipment should be a non-starter and I predict won't happen.

Sell your soul for overpowered tech.
Erm nope. Some people are mixing clanner with "has instant access to clantech", such players will for sure not be tested by our Clan.
Our group will be Clan from start, even if we don't have any clantech, who cares? Work with what you have.
