Im not sure what all the fuss is over the BK, I think it is a fine heavy mech. Each mech has a niche and the BK is no different. One minor issue for me is how the first mounted arm lasers are put UNDER instead of on the sides as shown time and time again in lore artwork. But alas....

Yes, yes it is. You just can't act like its a light Mech, just an under armoured medium. Do that and she will shine.

yup...even with the flamer

its a fantastic little fire support mech... stay 100-300m behind the big boys on the front line and lend blue lightning fire support

its very effective

So am I, I used mine to grate effect, sometimes I even killed with that flamer...

But back on subject, I just got the Black Knight yesterday, and have only done there drops with it, two CW and one PUG quick play, using the stock resistance unit, and being putting up decent numbers for a pure stock, un-skilled Mech, around 400 damage, seems okay for something I've done no upgrades too.

First off, hello MWO community. I'm a new player (started a few months prior to steam release) and would like some clarification on things mentioned in this thread. Like I said I'm very new and so far I enjoy this game very much. I got tired of tanks and decided that some one else was going to get my business. I recently purchased the BK on appearance alone (looks cool IMO) what I don't understand is the history of Clan vs IS and this so called tier'ing of mechs. Is this separate from my pilot skill rating, if so can someone elaborate? Also this thread seemed, at times, very vitriolic, is this the norm? I just play for fun not competitively so maybe I'm missing some critical info. As far as a new player who isnt competitive I rather enjoy the BK and relish in the fact that each mech presents its own set of challenges. The whole reason I left tanks is that everything was nearing a point of vanilla. All the vehicles ended up feeling like a clone of something else. Anyways, if anyone has any insight /advice I would greatly appreciate it.

The Black Knight when released had both terrible hardpoint locations, and terrible quirks. Currently it has terrible hardpoint locations, and excellent quirks. It's a great laser brawler - the structure buffs give you a big advantage, and the hardpoint location weakness is minimized as up close to the enemy you're unlikely to have objects in the way whose invisible edges will block your shots.
