A hanging item to remember those we have sent to the afterlife. :)

"Lest they forget!" ;)

Design could be whatever, that one would hang and or stand though I suppose.

A piece of worn, weathered paper with handwritten text on it that says:

Startup checklist
---------------------
Reactor - [checkbox with a check mark in it]
Weapons - [checkbox with a check mark in it]
Computing Systems - [checkbox with a check mark in it]
Luck - [checkbox with a question mark in it]

That comes awefully close to a line in the Australian ANZAC speech given every ANZAC day "Lest We Forget" and has been for nearly 100 years, as an Australian ex-serviceman I would take a huge objection to it, for me and some other ex-servicemen and some of those currently serving it could be seen as a trivialisation and/ or insult to our honoured dead.
Yeah, we Aussies do get serious about somethings.

Reading through this thread I noticed some people's definition of serious may differ from mine.
The general idea for this competition was based on feedback we received that "we had too many cockpit items that are joke items". So to clarify what the goal of the competition is I will offer examples of what we feel is serious and non-serious

* Hamster wheel is non-serious because the hamster would fall off and be crushed under your foot pedals or die due to heat exhaustion.

* Hanging 50 Caliber bullet is serious because bullets are serious. Bullets are tough. Bullets Kill.

Basically, if it makes you want to kill, puts hair on your chest, and strikes fear into the heart of the enemy, it is serious.
If it makes you giggle like a school girl and look at pictures of kittens on the internet. It's not serious.

So, you can keep your dancing flower pot ideas in this thread if you want but they are not in contention as serious cockpit items.

Think whiskey and Skulls and Knives and such.

Hooah MechWarriors,

Matt Newman

FYI
I am one of the judges :)

Ok,,
Seriously this:

Standing: A mech fight diorama(s) featuring melee combat...

Atlas swinging a tree stump into the chest of another mech. Glowy Eyes and EVERYTHING. That is a must)

Hunchback grabbing hold of and slamming an AC20 into a Highlander, impact explosion is shown.

King Crab clamping down on a spider and holding him in the air, Spider jumpjets ablaze

I think this could be pretty fun for the modelers, and I would really like to the epic scenes they can put together.

Hanging: Hologram Weapons Loadout

Looking at the thumbnails in the mechlab, you have 3d models of those weapons, right? I'd love to see a hologram that cycles through the 3D models that are equipped on the mech, and spins them around slowly.

Just a simple one that scans the loadout, and displays a new weapon in that loadout every 10 or 15 seconds.

Posted Image
EXCEPT, NOT 2D IMAGES, AND BETTER ANIMATION AND GRAPHICS...

Mounted: Projected Hologram Wireframe

A hologram that shows the wireframe of the currently targeted mech. Much like the wire frames in Mechwarrior 2. I'd love it if it shows the orientation of that mech too, and them walking, etc.

That'd be pretty boss actually lol. I'm nerding out just tihnking about it.

I'd buy that for sure. It would be useful.

Hello MechWarriors!

This is a contest where you must come up with a serious cockpit item idea!

The Staff will then pick the winner(s) and create the cockpit item in-game!
Then the winner(s) will receive this item for free as the prize!

Now get creative and remember; no goofy stuff this time!!

Will we get to vote on the final 5-10?

Standing Item:
How about a Neurohelmet with a bullet hole in the glass covering the eyes?

Hanging Item:
Combat knife through [Faction Symbol]

Mounted Item:
Laser Rifle above cockpit window. (In case you have to walk back to base and kill the 6 other enemies that got you.)

What if it makes you think about faraway home and loved ones? Or meditate?

Speaking of quoted definition of "serious", I'm siding with guys who want sidearms and swords (we can have mounted wakizashi, "standing" pistol and hanging grenade at the same time! Grenade should of course be hanged by the pull ring).

From myself I also advice pieces of "serious" national art/craft (different for different houses). For example, bonsai, origami or netsuke for Kurita, chinese jade sculpture or vase for Liao, walrus tusk sculpture or carving for FRR (I haven't coined something definitely suitable for Davion, Steiner and Marik ATM...).

Yet another idea of "standing" item: a combat dagger (I mean smth like Applegate-Fairbairn, Fairbairn-Sykes, Gerber Mark 2) stuck into the dashboard itself, without special rest. Blade part close to the tip where it's buried into the dashboard surface should be stained with blood, with a couple more blood drops and some blade marks on the dashboard around. Obviously mechwarrior was playing with his knife while waiting in the cockpit when scramble order came through suddenly, ruining his fun.

Hanging item: wrecking ball or spiked ball on chain. Simple stupid yet brutal.

Standing item: a military-themed book. Title could read like "Ares Conventions (are) for dummies", "Short History of Succession Wars: It Was Fun" etc, or it could be some field manual. Book can be bookmarked by a knife.

  • Banner Item: 3 to 4 dog tags hanging on a rack, all carbon scored and chipped, clearly pulled from the wreckage of fallen comrades
  • Hanging Item: Pendant of Saint George
  • An open First Aid box, lid flapping with movement with bloody bandages hanging out of it
  • Hanging Item or maybe Banner item? White silk scarf/scrap with red lipstick lips contrasting against the light colored fabric

- A License plate (with faction colors) that shows your badge/title e.g. "Ace of Spades"
- An hologram that shows the damage of your 'mech

Sorry for my possibly bad English ^^

Okay, this is probably technically impossible, but how about a hologram statue of your mech (whichever mech you're currently dropping in - the game would load the appropriate hologram image when you launch) that shows real time damage (e.g. CT turns red, hologram's CT turns red, lose an arm, hologram loses the same arm).
Or even better - a hologram of the enemy mech you currently have targeted, showing the real time damage mentioned above. I would pay real money for something like that.

OMG, so many good ideas in here already. I'm currently at work, so I just skipped to the end here to enter my idea.

How about Pirate themed items? Fun and serious too. These would also go well with the pirate camo. :)
Posted Image
- Jolly Roger flag ... could put the skull and cross bones on all kinds of stuff. WarHorns, Cups, etc.
- Pirate saber or cutlass
- Doubloons or pieces of eight
- Cannon (s)
- Atlas skull with eye patch
- Pirate pistol
- A flagon of Grog
- Cat O'Nine tails
- Items with pirate sayings....so much to choose from here:

Take what you can, give nothing back.
Dead men tell no tales.
Run a shot across the bow
Give me freedom, or give me the rope.
Why is the Rum gone?
The Pirate code is more like guidelines really (ya ya... I know. I took these two from the movie :P )
Hoist a black flag
etc

:D

Hmm...a war horn that says, in the crustiest pirate voice, "Dead men tell no tales." Now that would be cool.
