All the top tier players area using it. Every single one. You didn't realise before now...?

Basically, the hack gives them a wireframe view of the entire map, autopilots their Mech in the direction of the enemy Mech with the weakest armor, and then alphas all the weapons direct at the enemy Mech's CT with no heat penalty. After every enemy kill, it redistributes the players' own armor so that any exposed components are again fully armored.

Oh and it also gives them +50kph speed, unlimited ammo and 3X weapon range.

Google me warrior Aimbot and go to the sites. There are websites devoted to cheating tools for games. The programmers of cheats sell their code. So yes there is a demand and yes there are cheats in mwo just like there are cheats in all games. If pig wants to get rid of cheats they have to check their traffic and data to identify the problem. From what I've seen from PGI, they would probably say they ran a simulation a hundred times and didn't find a cheat. I'd write sarcasm but my respect for PGI as a studio is not there.

So I've never been in a match where I seriously suspected cheating. Ever. I've heard plenty of people complain, sure, but half the time they're on my team and I'm doing just fine. I'd seriously thought that there was NO actual, bona fide way to cheat.

But now this announcement says that there are, in fact, ways to cheat, and at least one person was using it. And that person was a top tier player, so it stands to reason that the cheat was pretty effective or they wouldn't have bothered.

So can anyone please explain what types of cheats have historically existed (just in this game...don't care about how you got unfairly fragged in Quake III). I mean stuff that actually happened, not theoretical what-ifs. I'm well aware of theoretical technology; I just don't see how any of it is actually giving someone a competitive advantage in this particular game.

Thanks!

Sometimes...and it's really sometimes...that i don't know how somebody cold hit me in a specific location or hit me anyway. But the fact is, MWO has serious problems with hitboxes, hit reg and other stuff which PGI is going and trying to solve by the time (hopefully). The other fact is, that when i consider my abilities in MWO and my position as a player i come to the conclusion to be far away from the top tier players. Many other players play more, train more, have better equipment and are closer to the servers (better ping). I will never stand a duel against let's say...Bishop...and i will rarely stand against an organized group when puging.

I think it's good to know where an individual stands as a player.

But then....

...sometimes...

!!!WTF!!!

;)

Peace

People (read: idiots) were getting in a huff and a tizzy about cheaters being everywhere with loads of drama involved (because they're idiots) so PGI had to step in and waste their time saying something about it so that people would calm down.

The general consensus before all this seemed to be that cheating was pretty much non-existent, with the occasional wild claim/accusation about cheating posted with no real evidence, but apparently it does exist even if it's not very good nor is it safe to use without getting banned, so since it exists then naturally people went apeshit about it.

A lot of people get carried away with this but pretending it doesn't exist is foolish as well. Just use this if you suspect someone and then stop worrying about it: moderation@mwomercs.com

No we cannot tell you ANYTHING about cheating. First off why would we even if we knew anything to nothing about it? I for one choose to not even give this topic fuel. If anyone thinks me or my unit is doing such i will gladly help investigate it to my full extent.

But its against the ToC to talk about cheat and what have you....sorry friend. Go start a Reddit thread....or just check out a few there. Naming the hack tool may be against the ToC so i suggest no one uses it here.

You basically need to know that just about every online game has cheats and some of the players are using them. To think something else (which a majority of the people on this forum actually did) is just extremely naive.

The kidding aside, "top" players have always been and are using while concealing wall hacks. This game was hacked a long time ago but isn't plagued by troll hackers because its a niche game barely staying afloat. It isn't hard to play it off that you can see through stuff. Mod Pud was just terrible at concealing it. Since this game is about positioning and awareness even more-so than aim wall hacks users are much more slimy than your run of the mill hacker.

You got that last one wrong m8.

it's ^ ^ v v < > < > B A B A Select Start....

Though PGI isn't Konami, so mileage may vary.

-kthx

Really? So you are saying that "top tier" players have, never, ever cheated in an online game? It doesn't occur to you that people who are competitive are often tempted to take any and every advantage they can over their opponents to beat them? If you think that's true, can I get some of the stuff you are smoking cus that shite must be da bomb.

Ever heard of Lance Armstrong,Ben Johnson, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Carl Lewis, Marion Jones? Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I laugh at the there are "no cheats" crowd.

They honestly think that PGI is doing all this just to "waste their time." Right... because the whole story is a fabrication and PGI is going to spend time making up nonsense out of nothing to make people feel better.

Or, maybe - just maybe - there are cheats and PGI is catching to what people should be able to figure out on their own.

I'm not sure which is more absurd: the assumption of an "unhackable" piece of software, the belief that PGI is also "in on it" and creating false info, bans, and players when there's no hacking, or the ego required to believe that "because I'm an amazing player, the game has no cheats."

Well, apologies for not keeping it in the "other post." I linked the original announcement, which didn't link to a forum post, and after a (brief) search didn't show a bunch of other threads I made my own. Obviously not a waste since it is now my most popular thread :) Why don't people care this much about flamers?

Ya'll are right of course: I see now that PGI has made clear we shouldn't discuss particular technologies. I guess the moment of open honesty got me carried away.

As for people being mistrustful of PGI, I don't see how this changes anything. They could do whatever they wanted anyway, only now they are being more transparent about it. I choose to think they'll continue to want my money as long as I don't make an extreme nuisance of myself. Call me naive, but I believe in capitalism :P

Thanks for the thoughtful posts! IMO this is much better than the "official" thread.

That's ok. It wasn't a contest anyway. I was actually just going to give one name but could not decide. :P

And I just found this in the news.
