The best MWO i ever played was in the few weeks b4 ECM was implemented - yeah, way back in the good old days.
That was the most balanced MWO we ever had with many playstyles (Scouting, Harrassing, Flanking, Brawling, Guarding, Sniping, Lurming) working well.
Yeah - we had good hope, we had 8vs8, no Clans, no Quirks, no Jesus Box, no Wallhack, no Consumables that time...oh, and no 3PV also afair.
Maybe one day it will be that good again... ;)

ECM shouldn't be able to counter NARC. Then NARC would be used more and LRM's could have more effectiveness against a team with 6 out 12 players running ECM (<-- kind of dramatized but also it happens).

It does block usage of SSRMs entirely which cannot be dumb fired. So unless you're constantly carrying Narc or TAG to use in conjunction with those then they can be entirely blocked.

I have some hope....MWO - 2.0 closed beta.....

The forums in closed beta was a gem i didn't value till it was gone. The devs posted and trolling was minimal. the people invested where BT-MW vets who disagreed but truly wanted the game to prosper.

Yet you go back to TRO designs the mechs didn't require it.

I'm a bit of a BT purist even in MWO the customizations I make fit the rules from Tabletop and I work with those. It's how I gauge the accuracy of the translation of the rules to real time as different developers have different means of doing that work. It's the making it near a requirement to use some of the equipment or weapons systems that bugs me.

Or they could just change that weapons system to be able to dumbfire...or track to the reticule location...

But thats kind of the problem. ECM weighs 1.5 tons and takes 2 slots. 1 ton and 1 slot for Clan ECM.

Just one Streak 6 weighs 3 tons and takes 2 slots not counting ammo for At Least 3.5 tons and 3 slots. Just one ECM can completely shut down All Streaks in its bubble unless the Streak Carriers have BAP, TAG, or NARC, or maybe even a combination for a total of at least 4.5 tons and 4 slots to be able to counter One ECM.

But yet multiple ECMs will completely shut down BAP, TAG and NARC along with the Streaks themselves rendering all of that tonnage useless.

The only way to be sure ECM is nullified is if every mech carries BAP. But then BAP has a short 200 meter range. The BAP carriers have to get inside the ECM bubbles to be effective, yet ECM's effect is limitless. Its effect hides it from any range.

TAG doesn't counter ECM, it only cuts through it. If you're inside the bubble, you'll need another 1.5 tons.

Whats sad is my Wolverine that I primarily use streaks on has BAP, I refuse to carry TAG in addition and the time I got attacked at close range by a Spider and Raven all I had to depend on was my lasers.

If you DO NOT have at LEAST BAP on your Streak builds its a bad build IMO

The best part of any ECM discussion, are the people who don't exactly know the ins and outs of how ECM works in this game.

All we need now is "UAV is OP" posts by this one player...

If everyone fitted BAP in every mech they can, this wouldn't be an issue

I have a guilty pleasure and I'm going to admit it.

I originally wanted a MWO without radar. Where you didn't show up as a blip on the enemy screen (or at least for the whole enemy team) if you were anywhere in their field of view. Because I like quiet flanking maneuvers, where you're only noticed if someone is LOOKING for you. The difference between how much fire you take peeking on an ECM mech vs a regular mech shows how much people rely on the dorito.

I hated the implementation of ECM. I really did. I've come to find I hate it less as more chassis mount it though. If it becomes omnipresent and there is no longer a match decided by one side not having any...then I will get what I wanted, in a backwards kind of way.

The more ECM there is on the field the more useful getting close and countering it is. It might even create a dynamic. But MWO without radar...it could happen. Mwuah haaa haaa.

Sounds more like a bunch of LRM carriers complaining they can't stay behind a hill all match.

Yes folks, you should probably consider carrying direct fire weapons instead.

Except direct fire weapons are faster and better under 500m.

The whole point of LRMs is that theyre LONG RANGE missiles... yet theyre barely effective past 500m because of their awful max speed.
