So, to those people who didn't back HBS's Battletech game... they just sent out an update that they're going to be selling a limited line of Battletech/Mechwarrior merchandise, and they'll be doing it with PGI.

And yes, before you ask - Clans are included in this run.

There's no information on what's coming, only the hint that the merch will be of Kickstarter backer quality (Excellent, I'm telling you), and it will focus on ingame artifacts and 'celebrations of the franchise.'

So, what does everyone want? I'm thinking desktop items - Statues of mechs, standing faction plaques, stuff like that. You?

That’s right, merch baby! Negotiations have concluded and we’re extremely pleased to announce that HBS has secured a license from The Topps Company (who own the intellectual property rights for physical goods) to create and sell a limited amount of BattleTech merchandise. We are also excited to say that we will be working with Piranha Games on this effort, so the merchandise line will support both the video games and the complete BattleTech timeline (yup, including the Clans).

Since we will be offering a limited amount of merchandise, we want each item to be as special as it can be. Therefore, we’re focusing on high quality items which are either artifacts from the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe or sophisticated celebrations of the franchise. The Kickstarter Backers heraldry kit and flight jacket rewards represent the level of detail and quality you can expect from all the items we offer.

In order to ensure that none of the funding you put towards developing BATTLETECH is at risk, we’ll set a minimum order quantity for each item and only manufacture exactly what y’all order. Think of it kind of like crowdfunding - until we have enough committed orders, we won’t make the item or complete your credit card payment, and then we’ll only manufacture what is ordered. That way, we don’t “waste” one of our limited offerings on something only a few of you want or make a ton of stuff that sits in a warehouse gathering dust.

It took us a long time to get this together but now that we’re here, it's gonna happen fast. So start squirreling away some C-bills and look for more info in our next update.

EDIT: To confirm, the items up for sale have not been finalized or displayed yet. HBS has just put out a bulletin warning everyone to start putting some dollars in the piggy bank.

I got that e-mail too and I'm glad they are making merch. I could only imagine that they will make mech statues but other than that I have no clue. I would love more apparel like the jacket but "artifacts" and "celebrations of the franchise" does not seem to hint at that.

Statues of Locust, Blackjack,and Mist Lynx. Unpainted. Perhaps with modular pieces so we can make them look like our in-game variants.

Thanks I wasn't a backer because I didn't want them to reach the online pvp goal then I waited too long and didn't get my jacket... Well this will make up for it

Thanks for the info! At least I have one more thing to get excited about at mechcon and it sounds like they will just require my credit card number and a signature.

No offense, but I hope any mech they may or may not sell are painted. I was never good at fine art, and my hands have only gotten less steady after several hits to the head.

I can always paint over paint, I'm actually more about the swappable pieces. And I want the BJ to stand about eight inches tall with the LCT and MLX to-scale. MWO scale.

It's not really a bummer if people get what they want. Though that will largely depends on what HBS puts on the table to be picked. If they dont have bcaps then its fine too, i wont have to chose between Marik and Davion, a choice that is tearing me apart.

Well, it's going to suck if they offer all 20 clan emblems and not just the invasion ones. Because someone is going to get the shaft. I'm sure any Successor State items that may be offered will clear the required numbers.

And no, before you go quoting me, you know who, I'm sure there's enough Diamond Sharks running around to clear that hurdle, if it does present itself (Though probably unlikely).

I have a feeling HBS just blew everything at MechCon out of the water, including their own presentations and Alpha. Not just with the merch - It was a solid update all around. Unless they demo melee at the Con, I don't think anything's going to top all of this for anyone interested in both projects.
