I would also like to be able to pay and "hero-ize" any mech. To often the Heros and Primes are not the best variant so you have no good reason to play them.

By helping them realize they need to buck up, put their heads down and grind out something worth selling.

Sounds more like it's time for you to move on to something you CAN enjoy. OR, enjoy your bitterness.

I've always thought the Champion Concept was kind of piss poor, TBH. I have more XP and GXP than I know what to do with. Once I grind a particular mech to Mastery, that XP bonus is of limited use. Personally, I'd take Cbills, any day of the week.

This. An XP bonus has no real value, as the road to doubled basics (what really matters) is pretty short anyways. Going to mastery basically doubles that time, but given the extreme cost of modules you need that time to afford them anyways.

Camo.
Special camo only buyable on one variant of a Mech, provides a lower CB boost than Heroeswhen used, no CB boost when not worn.

Oddly specific... Why camo?

Well they could just make a gold color which unlocks for singe mech, gives 30% cbills and costs $100.
That would allow any mech to be a gold mech.

But not worth the tantrums over vanity items being a price gouge and whatnot.

what if you don't want a gold mech, or any enforced paintjob? Or camo? Heck, what you guys are saying would actually require PGI to do some(small) amount of work. What I suggest requires essentially, NONE.

Good way to get XL engines for lights, especially during big sales.
Eg Firestarter/raven engines were about $3 plus bonus cbills from selling the stripped chassis, not much to pay vs lots of grinding.
Plus when you are keeping the mech they usually come with the expensive upgrades so another 2 million plus of value.

The XP boost is not that worthwhile, its more of a $ to cbills conversion.

I think the thing PGI is thinking is that if they introduce something like this, then their heroes and champions lose a good chunk of their luster.

And to a certain degree that's true. Champions as they are, well... you really don't have a reason to get them. Allow other variants to have the c-bill bonus and heroes just become unique variants with a locked camo.

But ultimately that's where PGI has a poor business model, they're relying far too much on these very particular areas to generate income which most people are sick of. Of course I'd rather pay to 'upgrade' a 'Mech to premium status. That would be great, and I'd probably splurge a lot on upgrading my favorite 'mechs than buying hero variants that I doubt I'll play very much (and are just cheesy IMO anyway).

There's so much potential for monetization on areas like this that PGI could benefit from, and they're all areas that players would want to spend on. Premium tokens or versions, separate custom geometry, HUD customization, computer voices, pilot slots, the list goes on.

If I thought it was for a reasonable price then I would consider it.

problem is, I can count the number of truly worthwhile Heroes on one hand. And probably have fingers left over.

That's the problem with heroes. At best they can make them Interesting; but not really GOOD - if they made them good, it would be all OMG P2W.

A "Hero" upgrade would allow people to have essentially unique heroes, and totally bypass Pay To Win issues.

I think Premium time covers what you are asking for. Looking for a way to double dip on any mech you want? Don't think so.

The Hero mechs are mechs of lore. Do you remember reading stories about Joe Schmoes 4G?

And a the boost isn't the only thing people pay for. Some pay for the look of the mech and the hard points. So no, a token would not be the equivalent of a hero mech and PGI could not charge the same. Well they could, but I doubt it would have the same revenue stream as a new shiny mech.

No, it really doesn't. A lot of us seldom if ever use Premium Time, because it's not a cost effective investment. If you cannot guarantee a large chunk of playtime, that Premium Time is essentially wasted. Hero Bonuses are there, all the time, no matter what, and just make using Premium Time, even sweeter.
