But which Banhammer did they use?

The BHM-1R is great and all, but it's a pretty archaic design these days. I'm guessing they probably used a BHM-3R since the BHM-0RZ isn't in the timeline yet.

;)

They should give all their mechs, cockpit items and modules away as random raffle prizes this weekend.

An 'ill gotten gains' grabbag event, I like it. Top prizes might even include gold mechs!

Tomorrow's news:

"All high level competitive players found guilty of cheating and banned for life. Aresye Kerensky found to be the #1 bestest legit player in MWO!"

Hey! I can dream :P

Any time I see a company post "we are 100% sure the people we are banning are cheaters" I immediately feel very unsure about them. 100%? You should feel very confident exposing your methodology if you're saying it's 100% correct, but I don't see any such post from anybody at PGI explaining it. I mean, much bigger companies with much more experienced people have made huge mistakes when smashing down the banhammer. We can't trust these guys with UI usability or hit boxes but we trust them to 100% for sure identify only cheaters?

This is shockingly glorious.

I can not tell you how many times on various games I wanted to do something like this but got overruled.

Cheatimg is, in its way, a social violation and deserves a social punishment.

I've never cheated in an online game in my life, but i always gets anxious when i hear about stuff like this.

Same.
My behaviour changes even when I'm going to a routine road block. I never did anything, but it's like... what if!! ahhhhhhh panic, don't screw this up! haha. I always come out of it thinking "well that wasn't so bad!"

I would assume one of the ban-ees handed over the software, and PGI snuck something into the client to sniff it out.

Cheaters?

Call in some Cylons and let them solve the problem their way:

Is Teamspeak considered 3rd party software?

The third party software they were talking about are things like macros for getting UACs and AC2s to fire on a perfect delay, or syncing up Gauss Rifle charges with PPCs. Also included are obvious things like wallhacks and aimbots but I think those are less common in MWO than Counter Strike for example.

You can't out methodology or you provide the means to make cheating harder to detect going forward.

I can say that on any game I worked for that identifying a cheater was 100% accurate just time consuming. 100% isn't tough. That's like saying can you be 100% sure someone logged in to the game. Absolutely. It's just a matter of logs.

I would say no since teamspeak is it's own thing and doesn't affect what MWO does.

Macros have never been below board, ever.
