Hi all,

Does anyone know if FF is on? I was thinking if it was on to make team damage half as much as normal weapons. Just to prevent spikes in blood pressure. :P

yes FF is on, you can kill your own team if you are not careful where you are shooting.

And that's the only way it should be. Plus make sure that hits against your own team cause a penalty to XP/cbills to prevent serious munchkinry.

A video by a Dev hinted at friendly fire, though since it is on a F2P model (likely hoping to pull in the range of casual to hardcore gamer), there will probably be a reduction.

Oh the profanity will flow if you hit your lance-mate.

Friendly fire has always been an important part of the simulation side of Mechwarrior. Removing it would be blasphemy.

It also encourages people to pay attention to what they're shooting at.

The penalty should be severe, very severe.

exactly, if they had the game go live and FF is off, that is not MechWarrior.

Agreed. If FF wasn't on, it removes a good portion of the challenge of the game, especially during long range engagements with some light mechs in the bunch.

I'm okay with FF on. I'd just like it reduced by half because you know a newbie is gonna blow a hole in your backside just as you are about to get that killer shoot off. But then again I'm not a lore purist.

Friendly fire will eventually make for better mechwarriors - either by improving their aim, or being KIA by their own teammates.

Er...

Seriously, FF I think is generally a good thing in terms of getting people to think about what they are doing, and to allow you to use one enemy mech as cover from another. The downside is the potential for griefing - getting mixed in with a bad apple who just gets their thrill from sabotaging the gameplay of others.

FF should incur a serious C-Bill/Xp penalty. There should also be a way to remove someone who is doing it intentionally.

YES!!! If you hit your own teammate not only will you get punished but there should be some means of benefit to the one you shot.

Friendly Fire turned On, no reduction on damage.

You're firing guns at other people. Players need to figure out quickly that you need to look before you shoot to make sure that's not a friendly in your cross-hairs.

I am with you about FF is needed to make it a real MW game. But think about it: If a friend will damage you and you need to repair the damage you will have to pay the bill. There has to be a system in place that you wont have to pay for FF damage. Otherwise I can already see really bad things happening :P

Similar question: griefing enabled - yes or no?
I prefer not to deal or receive friendly fire. If we can tick that option, fine. If not, griefers will make you regret it.

I think FF should be in the game. It would force (or not) team mates to be careful firing at those engaged in close combat with the enemy.

Imagine that if there is no FF, then you could call in artillery support or airstrike willynilly without worrying about your teammates taking damage.

Maybe in a public game, if you shoot a team member during a match, the system automatically transfers enough C-Bills out of your account to cover the repair cost...

In a game where your team mates are all in the same Merc Corp (or however that is going to work), no transfer.

That will defeat griefers in games where you don't know your team mates, but in a game where you do know your team mates, it forces a more careful approach to combat.

However maybe if you see your team mate nearly dead you could explode his ammo to cause damage to the surrounding enemy mechs, but i guess that could be abused, Suicide mechs isnt really a game idea they will go down!!
