Not only can they never please everyone - they can never please ANYONE that assumes a combative stance at the start of a discussion. "So, Russ, you really feel that the current snails pace of development is acceptable?" Did you really phrase it that way? What the crap kind of question is that? How would you react if someone spoke to you that way? I can answer it for you: probably with anger, or more appropriately, you wouldn't answer it at all. If that's the way you phrased it here, I think I can predict the tone you used when you spoke to Russ.

A duck is a duck, bro... regardless of who's wearing rose colored glasses. PGI does take their time (some would say oodles of it) with addressing/fixing/patching issues no matter how minor or game breaking. The only way a person could get pissed at a question like that is if it was true and hit a nerve. If I'm working hard, ahead of schedule, doing a good job, and someone says that... I'd laugh it off. If I'm falling short at my job or project, and someone says that to me, sure it'd piss me off. *shrug*

But it would make me evaluate the situation and determine if I'm doing the best that I can, or if I'm slacking off and can improve my efforts. Usually, the proof is in the product and quality.

I hope your wrong about the first part and the second part has some merit and I would also like to know whats going on with phase 3.

People around these parts seem to be very accepting of the term, "soon," even if it means at the end of the year and then some. I'd bank on "Eventually around the time of Steam release" with a dash of "adjusting for balance" through the year after.

I did 100's of jobs in construction with 100% success and unbelievable deadlines met or exceeded. Quality control was a 300 watt light bulb taken over every inch of thousands of square feet of work and a pencil circle for mistakes to be corrected. I take offense at even the slightest suggestion otherwise. Not sure why I just do. So dont take a defensive stance as an indicator of anything I can assure you. Even the thought of someone saying I did anything other than an excellent job is nearly fighting words to me but I worked up to 17 hour days hard labour so its serious for me. I got the scars and muscles to prove it to.

I guess I wouldnt question another persons lively hood so easily or off hand in a personal way just out of mutual respect.

I think 3 years in not alot of time to make a video game in this very new industry. I also think this game is far from complete and is far from being the triple A game it should be. I also think this may be one of the best Triple A games some day, maybe top 3 to 5. Mechwarrior could even get right to the top in time with some awsome expansions, but again that takes time.

Mechwarrior is already at the top for meaningfull character customization which is the mechbay.(room for improvement)

Also at the top with great combat along with maybe a few others. (room for improvement)

Mechwarrior lacks just about everything else at the moment.

I admire your unrelentingly positive attitude. At the same time, I don't share it.

They've had 3 years, and plenty of good suggestions to improve the "New Player Experience" and still the best they can come up with is a 25 game Cadet Bonus and that's it.

IMHO for a STEAM release to have any positive impact on the game they really, badly, need to revamp the NPE. I still fail to see how giving a new player a longer cadet bonus and giving them a free mech on top of that would not be a good idea.

To retain players they have to be "hooked" in some way. One way to do that is to give them something they OWN. something they want to spend some cash on to paint it, to upgrade, maybe buy other mechs.

Instead, they have stuck with a NPE that is borderline terrible (and I'm being generous). Don't get me wrong..I want then to get it right, it just doesn't seem like PGI "gets" some things. I suspect Russ is still paying his daughter as a consultant.

I think half of the problem is that PGI listened to the community and... well hey look where we're at lol.

This isnt completely unreasonable. But 3 years to make a game isnt a long time even for the largest companies. Other than that only time will tell how good this game developes. This is a big year for Mechwarrior or not remains to be seen. I have been saying this alot lately but the Steam launch is a big factor here.

I dont think Mechwarrior needs to launch on Steam they could go the advertising route directly, but since it is I think they are taking it seriously and will go about it the best way possible.

Steam stands to benefit more from all this because they need Mechwarrior as a quality next gen online game. Steam has some game quality issues going on. There is alot of quality issues in the industry due to over saturation. Over saturation due to the huge money in the video game industry these days.

Fallout 4 will maybe make 500 mill. Thats not as much as it sounds like buts its still alot. That could be on the low end of their profits. Maybe really low.

Fallout 3 made 240 mill minimum since fallout 3 at 60$, New Vegas at 60$ and 6 expansion packs at 20$ = 240$ x at least 1 mill customers on the extremely conservative side. They most likely made double that or more. How much will Fallout 4 make?

LOL I wonder if the President of Bethesda games still trades tweets with the players. :)

For what it's worth, I supported your position on Twitter to Russ. I agree that Twitter is a ... well... it's dumb, and he would be better off to pay more attention to the "official" forums.

Oh, sorry to hear you got blocked too. You did get blocked too, right? I mean, the only reason sycosys got blocked was because he brought up the forums. After you supported sycosys's statements, I'm sure Russ's immediate reaction was to block you too.

Not yet. I mean... I juxtaposed it with a really nice Tweet about how sexy the Cauldron Born is... to assuage the criticism. =P

I don't think he likes to do the Town Hall meeting. I could very well be wrong about this, but he sounds so frustrated and irritated with the questions during those Town Hall meetings. At the end of those meetings, he sounds like he's about to just flip the table. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's just because he's been having bad days or I'm misinterpreting his tone.

If Russ doesn't like to do them then he (or somebody delegated by him) should answer questions more often in between Town Halls instead of fielding a whole bunch of crap at once.

B-b-but PGI is scared of answering questions.

"It was our position at the time."

So you're saying the manner in which a topic is broached affects what response is triggered? Ridiculous.

Well, I'm saying as long as your all rainbows and kittens at least some of the time, he probably won't Twit-block you just for the occasional criticisms. But if you're nothing but critical, he'll probably assume that you're just intentionally trying to irritate him, because people have done that.

Yeah. I remember when they used to have a monthly round of answering questions from the players. But I guess that was such a huge undertaking that drained all of their resources, so they had to stop.

Questions got too critical. PGI's website has some BS about excellence through humility. I remember seeing that and laughing. PGI does not handle criticism well. This thread is just another small example.
