So when players screw up and overheat you can one-shot them. Hitting the head on a shutdown mech is easy.

There is a 17% chance for dual Gauss Rifles to one shot a cockpit, up to 22% on a Whale with a TC7.
WubShee has gotten a few; but even with hitscan, it's difficult. Dual Gauss is the way to go, with some MLs to take those last 3 hitboxes, if you don't get those lucky crits.
Better yet, Dual Gauss or Laservomit+Arty.

Actually I am all for increasing the size of the head area by maybe 10%. to many people cut down armour from the head to squeeze in that extra laser / ammo. I don't think the risk is enough currently to outweigh the reward in this aspect. I don't think it needs a big change, just a few %.

When you remember - I can't seem to get past the instinctive urge to go for center of mass. It sucks when you get gutted after your enemy powers back up.
"AAAAH, WHY DIDN'T I AIM FOR THE FACE??"
When I try for headshots against the right target, I usually get them too.

well my EBJ has already died from over 5 headshots and keep in mind this mech came out less then a week ago...
Anyway 1 reason is because of...
1) Logic, if a 203 mm shell hits you and destroys the life support, control panel, your sensors, and your whole body is to mush... I doubt you will still be able to pilot a mech with a couple of organs in a big hole in the upper part of your mech with smoke and fires coming out of it.
2) because you can still put things in your head. ie Medium lasers, clan large lasers, SRM 4's heatsinks, comand console, cap, targeting computer 1, etc... etc.

One instance in particular encapsulates the advantage of headshots and having your wits about you I think:
It was caustic valley, I don't even remember what I was in, but a Grasshopper was brawling with me at close range. The Grasshopper requires some decent face time with the chest mounted lasers. He had just given an alpha and was rolling while waiting for his lasers to recharge. He was standing still though. He was in the middle crater with his team, and I was peeking up from one of the ravines. We were only maybe 100m apart. He probably figured he could just stand there and deliver a full alpha at anyone that peeked right in front of him. For some reason at that moment I thought "Why don't I just wait until he stops and I'll shoot him in the head." So that's what I did. I stopped moving. I laid off shooting him until he was done rolling and faced me. He'd have a big, easy, CT target where he wouldn't have to move. He turned to give me an alpha, but I was waiting with my cursor around his head. I did some minor adjustments when he fully stopped, and I alpha'd his head off right as he shot his lasers.

No, I don't believe it has.
You have any source? Game files suggest not a thing has been touched for months.

i think it's higher because many people remove head armor, it's like the safest armor to remove right now
If they remove 2 points, it goes up to 42%+ chance to one shot. A single crit of 2.25 damage will destroy 32 IS+A.

Forest Colony Snow, match began, getting in position in my 100% armor Warhawk, searching for targets to snipe.
Then for a split second, I see two PPC sparkles and my mech falls over.
Dual-PPC headshot.
It was so impressive, I wasn't even mad.
Only thing missing was the Unreal Tournament Voice saying HEADSHOT!
From a game-mechanical (not to mentional realism) point of view, "exposed bridges" are always highly ridiculous.
Super-Sci-Fi-Vehicles really gotta have some cameras. And redundancy. And cameras. And redundancy.

its so much better than handing headshots out like candy.... cod style
some time last week i was playing in my Yen-lo-wang, the battle was going badly for my team, i was pretty wounded
a jenner came flying over the ridge to my right
he was super fast, packed full of pulse lasers and fairly fresh, i snapped off a AC20 round in a desperate move to make him change his mind about engaging me... BANG! it hit him right in the head and stripped it of all armour
"oh *&$#!, i am never going to land another head shot, this guy is going to destroy me" i thought
he looped around behind me taking what shreds of armour i had left and dropping my CT to critical
"this is it im going to die on his next pass" i said to my unit mate spectating on me
i threw my centi in reverse and opposite twisted to bring him into view, i desperately rake him with my pulse lasers and get no where, i follow up with one last AC20 round expecting to miss completely as he is incredibly fast but hoping for a bit more damage and the cbills that come with before i die
BOOM! he slams into the dirt, sliding to a halt against the rocky wall, black smoke billowing out of what was once his face
against all the odds i killed that jenner with two back to back head shots
i was annihilated seconds after by his team and we lost the match
but i did not care at all because i head shot a top speed jenner
i had a mega moral victory that game
