So I came up with this silly build... COM-BFG

It works...oddly well. As long as you can take quick snapshots while running and gunning, that is. It's a fun ride.

Now if only a COM can have a CT crotch E-slot, like the direwhale, and the IS PPC was 2 slots...

You're better off with an ERPPC in your COM-BFG, as you rarely will fire often enough for heat to be an issue. Your worst enemy is other lights, just try to leg them and get distance. It's a good build that works on most variants.

Yup, also consider using the one with ECM, at extra long ranges hitting a commando without a dorito to aim for is ridiculously difficult.

I actually managed to make the normal PPC version overheat, lol. Granted, it WAS Terra Therma, but still...I'd prefer to use something that's more manageable under normal circumstances.

The COM-1B was specifically chosen for its general energy quirks, and higher engine cap which helps with escaping and repositioning. ECM is nice to have, but when you have only a single gun to work with, you kinda need as much rate of fire as you can possibly have.

Two suggestions. I hate driving any 'Mech with a main gun that has a minimum range without any backup weapons. Granted, a max-engine Commando can pretty much control the range of any engagement, and if you run into anything that's almost as fast as you it's probably not going to end well regardless... but still, I don't like having a dead zone around me.

I just played a match in my TDK. It had been several months since I played it last. But man it was a fun match, Commando may not carry a hard punch but it's still the the best mech when it comes to troll entire enemy lances by skidding through them while seeding chaos among the enemy ranks.

While I spread a lot of damage on the enemy team I think my best contribution to the team was spreading the enemy team into a position that prevented it from doing anything coordinated, this kind of match contributions are very hard to asses and go completely unrewarded by score formula and PSR but I think they are some of the most important things that can be done by light mechs in uncoordinated matchess == PUG/small teams drops

Due to the engine shuffle optimizing on my spider bundle I knew I was gonna end up with an extra 240XL. Looking thru the mech store I came to find the commando maxes at 240... ok maybe..then I think...wait a sec...240 / 25 = 9.6... the locusts top out with 190s (so 9.5x).... this thing could be the fastest mech going....AND still have 7 tons of weapons. So...bought the champion commando since it had all the other trimmings already and sold its stock engine. Currently un-tweeked its 155.5 km/h. With the tweek its going to be 166.4.

Before the skill tree nerf, it was 171...ah the good old days ;)

If you are enjoying the champion, definitely get the Death's Knell. It is the best commando.

I disagree... unless it had some different quirks a couple months ago.. its now rather mediocure. The -1B is superior to it in terms of quirkening. It has all the same quirks EXCEPT it also has +20% energy cooldown and -20% laser duration, and it trades a energy hardpoint for a missile one.

That's the issue though: it needs quirks to cover the missing energy hard point. The single CT missile hard point is pretty worthless.

I will continue to request the Commando 1C, but I wish there were a variant with torso mounted energy points - or you could regenerate a lost arm once per match... Darn things fall off when someone on the enemy team farts in your general direction.

I have been running my COMM 3A the last week or two.

It is producing for me at a ridiculous level.

167kpm, machine gun rate srm2s, speed, speed, speed. (30% missle cool down quirk )

XL240
2Medium Lasers
2SRMs
300 Rounds ammo

SRM2 Cooldown
Medium Laser Range
Radar Dep
Advance Sensor Range

I haven't had more fun since I started MWO.

Look for me in game, catch me if you can, but I doubt you can. Posted Image

Wrong! Still very powerful!!! in private lobby all there hit boxes are messed up! When i get hit by ACs i get the cockpit shake but no damage (same with srms) my favorite is the tankmando or COM-1D It takes 3 alphas for a streak crow to take out and can be combat ready (minus 2 DHS) with <20% left! Just got Deaths Knell currently running DEATH'S KNELL I can 1vs1 arctic cheetahs with it.
The other builds I run are:
COM-1B
COM-3A
Still have not found a good COM-2D one yet, I've been running an erppc with it recently

Edit: after playing COM TDK more I feel it needs arm armor quirks because after it is missing both arms it loses all damage potential. +10 armor L/R arm?

I don't have smurfy link for at moment for you but my 2d is a hard hitter and also has ECm with a mdl. Basically the key is to reduce armor to 3 on the head cause nothing is going to hit you in that small eye cockpit when moving. Then you can load up SRM4 in arm and SRM 6 in chest. The. 1 medium laser and still keep you ECM. Forgot engine but it moves about 128 with speed tweak. I think it surprises many. Finally if you lose the arms whine happens usually, you still have an SRM 6 in the chest to use. Only thing I fear is the Oxides. I can't go toe to toe with them in that Commando but wow I win most games with this guy in the lineup on quick drops.

I run this on the -2D: "One Way Trip"

The idea's to push as much missile power with reasonable ammo-endurance, without dropping too much engine size relative to the engine cap. The weight savings is pretty negligible if you go much further.

Stick close to the pack, or run with a couple high-speed SRM-bombers if the match has them. You provide some tactical stealth (kinda, you gotta be close), and extra punch while they (ed: OpFor) focus on "bigger threats." Watch for open components, especially legs and XL-builds, and farm back damage to open folks up when they're distracted. Posted Image

With that in mind, I also have a Mist Lynx with 3xSRM4 that I think is funny. Unlike this Commie, it can't pack ECM because I need a different left arm for the 3rd SRM. Tradeoffs. Both are lulzy, and the JJs make for good times. Posted Image

That's funny. I have been thinking about going all out SRMs on my Commando too recently. Also you only have 1 armor on the head :) I do only 3..haha.

I think the armor is more of a "suggestion" than a rule, but yeah. Tiny head hitbox, may as well embrace the risk ;)

I'd put some ammo the head.
It gets used up first, so I'd take the risk of a headshot over ammo exploding in other essential components.
