I did run MWO on Win10 a while ago and it worked well.
But that time i had no sound (thx to MS for sudden changes) so i went back to Win7.
I wont upgrade to a hardware bound Win10 bcs i will lose my general Win7 licence, maybe i buy into it later.

What happened to Windows 9?

Windows 10 is really Windows 9. Microsoft named it 10 because of their ****** coding, they have a lot of references to Windows 9 pointing to 95/98 so rather than re-write their code they just named Windows 9 Windows 10.

Actually, it's mostly third party software that has those references.

Can we get a confirmation of actual testing of this game in at least the Windows 10 Developer Preview before we talk about more mech packs??? It's going to drop here shortly and would like to know what the PGI stance is on it....

How to avoid panic about Windows 10

1 - Remember that when Windows 10 launches you don't have to switch to Windows 10 that day, you can wait as long as you want to switch OS as MicroSoft have not employed the OS police
2 - Remember that 99.999% of software makers approach OS switches with caution, as they know not everyone will switch at zero hour. They also know that first versions will be buggy, so are likely to hold off till things have stabilized and proven their market share/that there is a value in working on the new OS version
3 - Remember that MicroSoft have learned that making old software dead on new OS's slows down the adoption of new OS's (aka "Their Cash Cow") so on Windows 10 have gone out of their way to make conversion easier and simpler

So panic not, and if in doubt hold off switching OS until **YOU** feel confident about it.

If you're a gamer, on any budget, you want DX12

I doubt it will do much for my old 550Ti... So "on any budget" is most likley a rather wide generalsation

I´l wait a month or so before deciding any way... Me and 0-Day windows... We do not see eye to eye.

I'm looking forward to getting Win 10 because of DX12. have a 5870m gpu and direct x 10, and 11, did nothing to gain performance even though my card supports DX11. hoping maybe DX12 will change all of that and peeps with current gpus can actually get some real performance gains. http://blogs.msdn.co...directx-12.aspx

I've used every Windows OS since Windows 3.0 with the exeption of ME and Vista. I have to say that Windows 8 has been the best out of all of them, WITH the caviot that I install classic shell and haven't seen the metro interface in at least two years. With the exception of my MAME cabinet I have upgraded all of my systems to 8.1. (The cab uses older hardware that is no longer supported in Win8 so that is currently stuck running 7.)

Hands down 8 runs smoother, loads faster, recovers better and syncs across all of my systems. I can usually spin up a fresh install of Win 8 in under an hour and have it completly usable. Windows 10 is more of the same with the added bonus of less metro!

All of the current Win10 RCs I've seen and tried seem just as good. I've tried all of the games I am currently playing on it and they do not have any issues running. I may still go the classic shell route as I just feel the WIN7 start menu is the best.

DX12 is doing something if you're CPU bound, it's like mantle about reducing the overhead=less work for CPU

I hate to tell you but

these arenot common iissues to Windows 8.1 and likely caused by something you have done

I deal with 8.1 on an enterprise level day in day out, and it's pretty rock solid.

The biggest pain is getting into safe mode on a PC with a an SSD to be honest, lol

I've only done the same stuff I've done in Windows 7. Difference is: Windows 7 got rusty after around 5 years of usage-- windows 8.1 on the other hand, got rusty in under a year.

It's free because there are 1 billion computers running windows that are eligible for the upgrade. Two words: Market Share.

You um, you don't work in a business field do you? LOL Market share with "free" is pointless.

"Hey look, I have 70% market share!!!'

"Wow, you must be rich!"

"Well, no....I um, gave them all away for free......."

FACEPLAM

Seriously, yes, the App store generates cash, and the add on programs like the Office 365 subscription generates cash.......but there are some issues with that logic.

#1 - App store and Office are optional and not gaunteed sales. Especially since there ARE alternatives from other developers.

#2 - Unlike Apple, Windows doesn't have fan boys who would buy anything with their logo on it. So there's no major fan base with Windows Phones that they need desperatly to link to their Windows machines and use their Windows propiritary software syncing.

Posted Image

M$ propitary apps in their app store linked to their phones are NOT going to drive sales, sorry.

#3 - The people using Windows 7, the majority, are NOT going to suddenly say "Screw you Windows, I'm going to go pay 3 times as much for a Mac, or get over my idiotic fear of Linux." No, the people using Windows now will larger and in great majority slowly migrate over to Windows 10 ANYWAY. They are gaining no additional market share to speak of because they are not in anymore danger of losing customers than they were before. People still ignorantly think Linux is a text based system for code monkies and nerds. And Apple still thinks their logo is worth $1000.

Sure, they may get a few more people who would have waited a couple years before going 10 just like everyone did with 7.......and 8. But again, if you give it away for FREE does it matter? Granted Bill Gates already has an olympic swimming pool filled with $1,000 bills he can swim in, but any 1st year economic student can tell you it is better to sell 500 units for $5 than to give away 1000 units for free.

Maybe M$ is trying out a F2P strategy, the issue with that is that a Windows OS is not a captive auidence like F2P games such as MWO are. In MWO the game is free yes, and yes you can if you want never pay for a single thing. The difference is IF you pay for something you get something better/quicker and the only thing you can buy will come from PGI. Not so with an OS, I get Win10 for free.....than I ignore the useless app store, I download Libre Office for free, ditch WinPlayer and install VLC for free, throw away IE and get Firefox...for free.......I have a fully featured and operational OS without giving a dime to M$.

Now, again........Microsoft can afford to lose some money, they have pleanty......but still......they are giving it away free until July of next year.......so.......why be first into the briarpatch? If 12 months from now everything shows that there is a REASON, or some actually upgrade need for Win10 and they got their first SP out for it fixing the early realease bugs then I can still grab it free if I need it.

As always, it all comes down to personal needs and use.

FYI, Windows 10 DID finally do something right and they scaled back their resource hog-ness, at least at launch, probably still have to wipe it and re-install every year to deal with the bloat.

But anyway, don't worry about running it on your machine. If you are running Win 7 now you will have no issues. In fact, they have found that it can even run on Vista era machines, so it's not a PC deathknell like 7 was.

Um, yes I do work in a business field, and your chart proves exactly why MS is giving away the OS. There is a reason that Apple and Google dominate the phone market. Whether you think so or not, market share is a huge factor for developers. How many developers are supporting Blackberry and "other" in your chart? How many are supporting Android and iOS?

And you don't seem to understand that the Windows app market is *one* market for all platforms. So developers building windows store apps for the PC are building phone/xbox apps, whether they intended to or not. Developers write apps where there is market share because of the potential number of sales. And when you can write one application that runs on three platforms without having to rewrite each one to each specific platform the ROI is way better than a single platform.

And free works, your chart proves it. When was the last time you paid for Andriod or iOS or google, or Facebook, or yahoo, etc? Free works when you have an alternate revenue stream that comes from usage, like an app store. There is a reason there are more apps for Android and iOS than Windows or any other phones - market share.
There is a reason there is more Windows apps than any other platform - market share.

The free upgrade in the first year is as I said to kick start the migration. Most regular users *don't* upgrade their OS, they buy a new PC. Because the upgrade price is ~$100 US and they could buy a whole new computer for $300. Giving a free upgrade brings in new people who wouldn't otherwise upgrade for 3-5 years.

Even if only 10% of that 1 billion upgrades its a huge market share.
How many Windows game developers are going to write DX12 games if the Windows 10 adoption rate is like Windows 8.x? Few.
How many are going to write those apps when there are 100 million devices running DX12?

I certainly hope that most gamers upgrade so we start seeing more DX12 games, faster rather than in 2017/2018.

But keep your tin foil hat on. For consumers MS is looking to take advantage of the cell phone/app store methodology on the Windows platform as a whole, and 1 year of giving away the OS to already licensed Windows users for free fits into that model. They are not lost sales because most of these users *wouldn't have upgraded* if it wasn't free so all it does is increase their market share.

For those doubting the improvements that DX12 will bring to compatible games, just look at AMD's Mantle. It's already here, and brings massive improvements to framerates in existing games.

Both DX12 and Mantle are low level APIs that look to use the CPU and GPU more efficiently than current rendering methods. The improvements are real, and significant. And it's only available with Windows 10.

May I just add, that as far as OS sales go, the home consumer is NOT MS's main source of income.

Enterprise licensing is where they make their money. Server OS, pro level OS, enterprise software (MS Exchange starts at $3000 !!! Find one GOOD email system that doesn't use activesync :D) all required for a serious business setup and they charge far out the a$$ for that stuff. Be sure, giving away the OS to home users is not gonna dent their pocketbook. In fact it is a great way to ensure that those users get "locked in" to the ecosystem as once they have spent money in the App store few people will switch away from that investment (why would I go Mac when I've got 200$ worth of apps from the store that I won't be able to use anymore?)

It worked great for Apple and Android in the phone market and like it or not that mobile device methodology is going to become the new strategy for desktop as well. The lines between mobile and desktop are pretty so blurred now that they aren't really even there any more and from a business perspective it makes total sense to treat PCs just like you do phones.

Actually, your card will be just fine for DX12, if it can do DX11.1, which your card can, it will do DX12, so sayeth nVidia, AMD and MicroSoft.

For those who don't think DX12 is all that..King of Wushu, CryEngine, DX11 and DX12 comparisons...so you know what you are missing...

I installed 10 over a clone of my normal OS (7), and many programs worked, but for some reason not only was MWO's shortcut/exe gone, but it also gave me an error when trying to install the client fresh.

Guys... many have already been running Windows 10 for months now and have reported back on the hardware forums and here with their findings, I am one of them. It works just fine with MWO, other then I have noticed that Windows 7 64 bit seems to have higher frame rates while playing this game. Not by much, but other then that issue, no issues I have come across....should be a painless upgrade for all concerning this game running on it.
