also BAAAAYSPLOSIONS (hate him forever for ruining the image of transformers)
Coming from a complete outsider's perspective, I had mixed feelings about the
Transformers films. I thought that, as films, the first and third succeeded as competent lighthearted popcorn flicks, competent precisely because they didn't take themselves too seriously.
However, I do appreciate the fact that, were I fan of the series, the movies might really **** me off, because I might well see them as little more than a bad parody making a few quick bucks by whoring out a beloved franchise. Trust me, I know; that's exactly how I felt about the new Trek movie. At least, I think I hated it; it was hard to tell, because I couldn't see the film very well behind all the lens flares, but it seemed to have far less social commentary or philosophical exploration, or mind-teasing things to muse over, instead replacing all that with a glorified angry space trucker who ran around yelling "It happened! It did happen! I saw it happen! Don't tell me it didn't happen! FIRE EVERYTHING!"... but yeah, now I'm ranting.
The point is, I understand.
