I know there are plenty of nitpicks to go around with the CW maps (terrible funneling/firing lanes/chokepoints, poor environmental hitboxes, generator locality strictly around Omega), but I think people haven't really gotten serious about demanding PGI to fix Grim Portico the most.

Here's a way of describing it... OOB (Out of Bounds) is OP (OverPowered).

When this map was first created, it was known that the area around the Beta gate... the right side where it has some elevation. That area is a freaking deathtrap since the OOB placement is so "off" that you need to be facing more on the left side on that elevated terrain to minimize/avoid contact with the OOB.

With the most recent changes to dropship points, those that are defending inside the gate spawn in areas that are pretty tight and often times it's like trying to walk a tightrope in the circus.

I've kinda had to remind people to NOT drive, but turn FIRST before they move forward just to avoid this issue.

I don't know if we have to have like visible OOB markers like the ones use for capping a point on Assault/Conquest or if those OOB markers need expanding, but this is totally ridiculous that this map suffers greatly from "unintended suicidal deaths near spawn".

This honestly needs to be fixed and while it may seem to be appropriate to put it into Support, but I haven't seen this issue ever get mentioned or addressed... for the mere fact that a small minority play CW and it never seems to be addressed one way or another.

Friends don't let friends get OOBed by the bad map design.

I personally think it is the worst map due to this, but I know people may not share that view. However, this is the most annoying thing that I have consistently seen on this horrible map... random death by OOB.

Nope, Grim Portico is my favorite map. And if you cant figure where out of bounds is you have some serious lack of attention issues.

Its my favorite CW map, but I completely agree on the out of bounds issues. They definatly need to move the OOB borders to more acceptable places.

Its hilarious to see a mech has killed himself within the first 10 seconds of a match, but ultimatly those things should never happen.

There are actual issues with the math, starting from its debut. You couldn't hug that wall on the right side of prior to entering Beta Gate... it was "OOB" to all that traversed that section.

That's poor design, and while it is still the responsibility of the pilot to be aware of their surroundings, the "size" of the area (the boundaries) is a problem in of itself from where some of the base defenders are spawning from. They should be reasonably larger than currently constituted.

I'm not hating on the map despite this sounding like disapproval, but there are issues with the map.

If you even vaguely remember the OOB on older versions of River City (and Night), there were some key areas around what was normally called "Episilon" and "Kappa" points in Conquest where normal movement areas by players yet they were classified as OOB.

That's the kind of thing that needs addressing ASAP.

I felt the same way. Until I was in that B7 location with an assault and I just happen to take what seemed like a perfectly normal hill out of the drop zone ... only it was OOB and I was kicking myself. I knew better.

Maybe PGi could invest in adding these things to the OOB lines so that players can see where these are before suiciding;

One day when my mech was badly damaged I ran out of bounds behind a stone pillar in the hopes my enemies focused in the kill would follow me, I didn't think it would work but I tried anyway, oh man my best triple kill ever :P

Yes out of bound is absolutely unintuitive in that map and the only warning you usually get is the count down.

This is my favorite CW map but those out of bounds things need to be fixed by increasing the bounds or add walls to them.

I don't understand why defender spawns have to be in these protruding circular zones surrounded by OOB deathtrap. Why not round out the drop zones to be normalized like almost every CW spawn? Add terrain that blocks you from OOB in the spawn. One of the major issues is that you can easily step OOB while heading toward the enemy, it really is incredibly unintuitive. Bad map design , plz fix.

I'd take the risk of out of bounds over an enclosed arena map any day.

I died to OOB once on this map too. From the attackers side I was going right gate and just used my Mist Lynx to JJ over a corner of protruding crap to get a straighter line to the gate and by the time the countdown hit I was out of juice and falling, game over.

Why they would make that area out of bounds directly in front of the gate is unknown to me. Boreal has a bad one near the left ramp approach as well---you can back yourself up against the cliff and a little pocket in there is OOB for no good reason at all.

I've died at spawn more than once by idiotically placed out-of-bounds as well. Sometimes I'm grabbing at my cup of coffee while the dropship is coming in, hit W, and "oh shii.., wtf just... I ... wut"

Please, whoever does the OOBs on CW maps (I think it's Thad, but could be wrong), ... I know you think we're smart enough and you didn't expect this to actually be a problem, but please...

This brings up the whole dropzone/dropship changes. Just prolongs the matches, if a team is going to get steamrolled the new dropzones wont change that.

Gotta agree with those that like the map but hate the OOB. I enjoy the fact that close range mechs aren't totally hosed, unlike almost every other CW map. I enjoy the overall flow of the map. I like the theme, and can even overlook the terrible cubemapping on the frozen lakes to say it's actually quite pretty for an MWO map.

But the OOB areas are just bad. I've lost one mech and almost lost half a dozen others to the arbitrary boundaries. It's especially bad if you have two or more of: critical damage, incoming missiles, and a weapon jam; the visual warning doesn't show up, and Betty is so busy talking you get maybe five seconds of warning tops that you're about to be arbitrarily killed.

Really? Really?
You die more than once on this map due to OOB and you got it coming.
Think of it as a way of weeding out the weak and hopeless!

Wow.

This is spot on
If you haven’t killed yourself at the spawn look out it will happen
