I work hard for a top ten spot. For me personally, it takes so much grinding that a blacksmith would cry at the thought of it. I finally got my first #1 in the Jester tournament. This took all the years this game has been here to accomplish. Here's the funny part, and this I hope makes you scratch your head... The great players don't participate in the tournaments. There's a couple, and their scores show it. If all the great players did participate, you might as well go cry on your pillows, because you wouldn't be getting in the top ten. I've seen these guys play, they're legit. Advice? Eat your wheaties, drink your coffee, and get ready for a long weekend if you're an average player like me and you want a 1 spot. Try not to look at the leaderboard too often, if you're chasing other peoples scores, you're in for an emotional roller coaster. Just play, and focus on you.

Also, some of you are close but just off on the X5 thoughts. Here's the link for the post I made to make a #2 slot.

And this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Look at what the cash value of those prizes is. Compared to the effort you put in, the reward is bupkis. You guys are basically saying that your time is worth pennies on the hour.

Ok but here's another thought. You don't have to get in the top 25 to get the best prize. Since the best prize is the c-bill bonus. That's available to everybody, though in these particular events the bonus is if you paid cash for a hero mech and/or premium time. But anyone who had those, all they had to do was play to get the c-bills, which was the best prize, though a bit grindy to capitalize.

When I see threads like this what I'm reading is "there are people with better scores than me, they must be gaming the system or cheating."

I do not think it is a good idea to run "scoreboard" events in such a way as they are so easily exploitable.

I think you either run "fun events" where everyone gets to earn rewards or if you want a proper tournament where you procaim a victor then run a proper tournament; with a knockout structure and observed games.

I still dont see the scores needed to get to top 10. I had scores like that and was 15th. That score wasnt enough for anyone to get into top 10.

Simple question since you have so much knowledge on all of this. What were the scores neede for #1? I admit I took a guess. I am now curious. :)

No you didn't have all your scores like that - because that is exactly what it would take to win.
A 6 kill (3 of them solo), 4 assist, Win, Survive, with 1000 damage match would score 336 points. 10 of those matches would be 3360. Second place in the X5. Make one more solo kill (upping to 4) and that scores 386 points, or 3860 for 10 of them.

Now, maybe you did have a match or two like that. But if the other 8 or 9 of your best matches are the same as that but with only a single solo kill that drops the score down to 236 points per match everything else the same. That would be ~2660 for the leader board - about 25th on the leader board. So your average was a bit better than that.

The only part of the scoring that is hidden is the team damage that gets subtracted from your damage score. The rest is simple math:
(Solo Kill x 30) + (Kill Most Damage x 20) + (Killing Blow x 10) + ( Kill Assist x 10) + (Win × 10) + (Loss × 5) + (Survive × 10) + (Dead × 5) + ((Damage done - Team Damage) ÷ 15)

A solo kill is 60 points. It takes 1000 damage to match that value. It's solo kills that wins the leader board.

The formula suggests damage gives score based on difference between your damage and the rest of the team's damage, though. Or is that friendly fire?

Also, IIRC the Hellslinger #1 broke 5k points. The games you'd need to get there are absolutely bonkers.

No the formula subtracts your friendly fire team damage from your damage done to the enemy, then divides by 15. E.g. If you do 600 damage but did 100 damage to your teammates the value would be 500/15 or 33 points (33.33).

It subtracts the damage you deal to friendlies from the damage you deal to opponents.

Solo kill is such a pain, amount of times I have done the most damage to a target only for some ass to ninja the killing blow.

Yep I have seen some "great" player match my top scores on the Galaxy map. They were banned for cheating(aim botting). Check the ban list. Oh and that they were cheating was obvious. Also dont mind saying this because I have never cheated and never will.

Although I must admit I thought they were farming kills at the time. Turns out they were botting. I noticed players cheating is very obvious, but they for some reason think it isnt.

Seen a player not even a week ago get 19 kills vrs the clans in a match. He was meeting them off to the side of the battle and they were letting him shoot them. I seen this myself so there isnt any doubt about it. He was standing 50 meters from them as they shot past him at me........

The farming going on is truly epic.

You actually got a good chuckle out of me about the solo queue being easier. Still laughing. Not in a mean way, but that statement is very cute, way lol

I honestly dont know what to think when it comes to how any rules would or are being enforced.

Well, didn't PGI disqualify someone from one of the tournaments for this very reason? Or multiple someones? Was a while ago.

Also, nearing the end of one of the heavy tournaments, I jumped from 15th to third in about 8 matches. Sometimes the planets align. And... well, sometimes people probably cheat. What are we talking about again?

I really dont care to much they do this, the botting or the farming. Some time they will have to do without these crutches and then it shows. In a really bad way Im sure.

I also think the events are made for partly this reason and that the Galaxy map is in beta and that these things come to light serve to make for an excellent finished product. I hope anyway.

Its tough being a ref. I was a ref once and it wasnt pretty(almost got into a fight lol I can laugh about it now, was very stressfull at the time.) but I was spectating a game and they asked me to come from the stands and ref because the guy didnt show. I dont envy the guys trying to make this game fair. Luckily thats not my problem.
