E-sports = funding. Funding = more things can get done, on a faster timetable (assuming all goes well). More things being done = an enhanced and in-depth CW experience.
Still, his point was that the current CW system might as well be e-sports for all the fluff & depth it has.
There's no reason to fight for one particular planet over another, or for one faction over another (aside from changing the faction rewards, which PGI experimented with for awhile), aside from the short descriptions when picking contracts.
There's no story supplied within the game itself (I guess the assumption was players would supply it ourselves via sarna & such?), there's no tangible reason to fight for or own a planet - the whole CW structure right now, really just feels like a loosely arranged group tournament that never ends and has participation rewards as opposed to win/lose rewards. In a word, hollow.
If we had just a couple of these things to build on, it would be a great leap forward for CW. Me, I'm not holding my breath until other major updates with the game happen (which they
will, within the next few months).
