A 3025 League with Unseen mechs in the mix and some old school rules? Bonus points for style? We could put something really awesome together that way. Would likely be a decent draw for some of the oldschool BT fanbois (like us) who've drifted away.

Battletech 3025: Solaris Stock 'Mech Mayhem!

But I'd rather do it in this new game than MW:O, so hopefully that pans out :P

From http://www.mmorpg.co...ed-Schemes.html

MMORPG: In the past there has been some controversy over the use of images. What kind of impact does that have on your art team? Are we going to see the original Mechs or do you plan to go in an entirely new direction?

HBS: Whatever controversy there was regarding images from Southern Cross and Macross was settled over a decade ago, so there will be no impact on our art team.

This doesn't seem right, otherwise PGI would have been all over the unseens. That or they're confident the new motion by CGL gets them past any issues with them.

Don't sweat it. Honestly? They pull this off and we can put some real time into creating a proper 3025 League. PGI wants some e-sports stuff? That's never going to be metawhoring minmax with 3 chassis. It'll get boring and fast. A 3025 using stock mechs and original BT Buy Value rules but played out in private matches 12 v 12?

I'd watch it. Wouldn't you? All the people who play top tier comp stuff generally agree that they do NOT like the cookie-cutter aspect but if you're in it to win you're in it to win. You make the rules of the game one that promotes a funner environment. For people who enjoy the winning more than the playing you just make winning involve 'playing'. Make sense?

Not kidding. I'd put money into league rewards, like backer packages to HBS' new game or gift bundles from MW:O and the like.

Imagine...

We open up on a solaris match in The Factory... it's the Championships... the top fighters from each weight class have found themselves able to fight for the championship of the Factory arena. Some of the top contenders: A Warhammer 6K, an AS7-D that seems to constantly rubble every mech he comes across, a Panther pilot who's seemed to actually get lucky in pretty much every fight he's been in. An odd out Blackjack pilot who also lucked his way to the top, just squeezing past someone who was expected to take the top fielding. and HBK-4G that just seems to decimate the Medium circuit. A newcomer in an AWS-Q...

The buzzer rings and the fighters begin their movement from the stables, and into the arena proper... the first PPC shot zaps through the air...

GOD this has me excited... so damned excited... Imagine seeing some of the most iconic mechs fighting it out in a mode like this. Using their stock [or close to stock/still in the spirit of the mech] loadouts... the varrying tactics that have to be at play. The mix of weapons and all...

YES PLEASE... PGI TAKE MY MONEY!

The two most burning questions for me are: 1) Will we finally get the rest of the unseen mechs? and 2) will HBS Battletech have a multiplayer mode?

I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I find that image arousing.

Like, seriously sexually arousing.

I think it captures the spirit of the original quite well, better by far than any previous attempts.

It has the stjobe Stamp of Approval, and that's gotta be worth something* :)

I agree. However, the problem is like this:
1) Harmony Gold has upper hand over CGL. US courts have decided in HG's favor.
2) I have no doubts that HG has got a significant influx of cash recently (Sony obtaining licence from HG to create a movie).
3) On the other hand, CGL has two sourcebooks in the works: One upcoming book is going to be titled First Succession War and the other book will be Second Succession War. Clearly, the situation with the Unseens requires some solution since it would be "very strange" to publish books about Succession Wars and do not show the most common BattleMechs such as Warhammer or Marauder, the most common trooper 'Mechs such as Crusader, Thunderbolt or Rifleman, the most common fire support 'Mechs such as Archer or Longbow, etc.
(imagine being tasked with preparing WW2 tank game, but without T-34, Sherman, PzKpfw IV and Panther)
4) CGL could retcon 'Mechs from TRO:Project Phoenix and say that those Reseen 'Mechs have always had that appearance, even in the past. However, many BattleTech fans rejected reseen 'Mechs such as the Reseen Marauder and others.
5) So now CGL is working on new CGL-produced 'Mechs that are going to replace all those Unseens. This decision means that CGL should be safe from any potential HG lawsuit.

In a court case that was settled out of court actually. So there was no actual ruling. The only official ruling that has come out over the years really has been the one from Japan saying Harmony Gold licensed from the wrong people.

I am not sure why, but I like the sound of this. :) But really I hope no one gets cheated. Glad to see that theres a chance of having updated versions of the original mechs in game though. I really hope they get it right and not screw it up at the same time. :)

The claim HG has isn't bulletproof. Like with all court cases over licensed IP you have to be careful; you end up pushing it to a judgement and you might lose everything. Ironically HG has a lot more to lose trying to push this than Catalyst does and if Catalyst has the legal chops in place to actually take this through it might just push HG to sit down and STFU.

We'll see how it plays out but I am sincerely hopeful that PGI can work out licensing the images for MW:O to release a new Unseen/Reseen package like on the cover art. I'd throw so much ******* money at that.

Honestly, it does not really hurt Macross / Robotech if the unseen mechs are allowed back in the Battletech universe. Macross / Robotech is about the story, the Mecha are only a part of the story.

/agree. Total respect to Robotech. I cant wait till a movie comes out of that. Really. It could be epic and something that hasnt been done before now only because it was to expensive or just not possible to do it right.

I meant this:
http://alex.kaempen....ld_v._fasa.html

The following non-public agreement between Harmony Gold and FASA is secret, but one result is clear: Since then, FASA (or WizKids or CGL) has not used Harmony Gold designs. And when they tried (such as in the case of that big color art showing the Unseen Warhammer), they had to backpedal and replace the HG's Unseen Warhammer with the homegrown Hammerhands, as not to piss off HG again.

I know about the court ruling from Japan, but sadly it has no importance outside Japan.

Of course it does.
New Robotech miniatures game licensed by HG is coming, exactly with those "BattleTech Unseens", so to speak. That's one more reason for HG to defend their designs and not let their competitors from CGL use them on the same boardgames market.
