If we had a proper heat scale the Orion would be better. It's a good looking bot just hard to compete with meta builds

I dropped in my Orion a day or two ago and someone on my team basically said we must protect the Orion as it's endangered. lol

if you say so

I didn't expect a comeback from someone who thinks an orion can take on a timber on any range. ;)

Nobody ignores me when I drive an Orion, its doggypile time.

They just see "OMG ITS AN ORION, FREE KILL YAY".

Bought the Orion-M for a cheap XL300 yesterday, piloted it about 8 times to try and basic it up.
Ran it like this.

I got maybe 1 good game in where I got a couple kills.

But when its this POS vs Executioners, Timberwolfs, and Ebon Jags puking out double my DPS @2-3x my range and running half as hot, its no contest.
Needless to say Its going to sit in the hanger for a long long time.

The real question is what happens when/if the Elder Statesman of the 75 ton class arrives. The Marauder! Because, yes, the Miffed Kitty may be more powerful, but for me the Marauder wins by virtue of being 1000% cooler because it is not a filthy, stinkin' bucketbaby clanmech. :D

Perhaps amusingly, the MAD is pretty much an ON1 hardpoint-wise as far as I can tell, just without the missiles but with high mounted ballistic.

Well, it's not a giant brick hitbox wise, so it would probably spread damage better, like the Mad Cat

On mid range, I found 2xUAC/2xLL and Gauß/2xPPC builds to be much more viable. People actually hit your ST's on that distance, and especially the left torso seems to be a popular target. Which is good, since it draws fire from the ballistic side.

TBRs and EBJs are just clan things, of course they get more firepower on two times the range.

The two biggest in their weight class for each side.

Which one would you pick, what do you fear the most from the other in a 1v1 or a team game?

Theory crafts away, GO!

Out of the box The Timber Wolf. If I make my Orion into a Marauder... Even money.

Even if what you say is possible, which is unlikely, how does that Orion M get within 270 meters when the Timberwolf is going 90 kph.

Most pug games I play in my Orion M everyone thinks I'm a free kill until after I blow through a heavy and assault in under 10 seconds. I also understand that speed is important so I plugged a 350XL in mine. Not quite as fast as Timby but the difference is marginal enough that it hardly matters unless Timby is flat out running away from me in open ground.

Also 90kph means nothing if you position well enough that the enemy rounds off a corner right into your crosshairs or you dive into the nearest cave. Sometimes I get behind the entire enemy pug team and blow out a couple before they even notice I'm there.

That 255 engine gave me cancer. If you want the clearest proof why Orion is simply not in the same league as a Timbie... :D
