Sounds familar.
I just love getting my shoulders chomped on when i need to cut corners just because the main pack likes to cruise control. Or when just to happen losing my ballistic because my rear is being rubbed on by these glaring lights and perhaps even medium mechs.
Occasionally i have these beautiful sub par 100-200 dmg matches when the amount of stupid reaches the ceiling and is out of control.
I am happy if i can get a kill and contributed some damage to anyone's steel face.

"He who falls behind, is left behind."
Yes, some maps like Caustic and old River City were strictly nascar, it doesn't take many matches to figure that out. If you are in an assault mech, and you land on Caustic, you have to cheat nascar: cut the corner. There are open areas, gates as I call them, into the calderra where and assault can move through a portion of the middle without being exposed for too long. Don't stop to check seismic, don't stop to peak a corner, don't stop to take that free shot. Keep moving!
How many times did I watch assault mechs take the bridge (on old River City) then complain about being left behind. How many times do I watch the slowest mech on our team taking the widest route around. How many times do I watch a dual-guass DW take fire from a ERLL Raven then hide behind a pillar claiming to be trapped, or stopping completely to line up the dual-guass on a Raven some 800m out that'll just duck behind the hill.
I readily admit, sometimes there's nothing that can be done. I had the bad spawn on Alpine with my Misery the other day, by the time I made it to the top of the hill my team had already run down the other side, and were 7 dead, 1 afk by the time I finally moved into weapons range...
That's not to say the guys up front aren't also responsible here. The idea of Nascar is to try to catch the tail end of the enemy team. If your front runners are not actually engaging anything, or casually poking at range, or stalled up behind a corner, then they have failed Nascar just as much as the assault who fell behind.

I was left behind, I fought vs 2-3 mechs and died.
But the hilarous thing is that I was insulted by a player "PORNO-something" because I could not stay with the team.
I did 450+dmg.
That "PORNO DBAG", in that awesome nascar warhawk..... guess what... did 163dmg.
Maybe maybe maybe.....fast mechs such as light and medium should nascar, heavies and assault should.... HOLD THE LINE, HOLD THE POINTS.
But nope.... "PORNO D-BAG" insisted that team has lost for my fault. Even though I managed to do triple dmg than him, with all his marvelous nascaring with the warhawk....

Sometimes I even suggest it when I'm in an assault.
Try it.. Not always but usually helps.

For the most part... absolutely correct. Pug lyfe. The thing that pisses me off the most though is when it's a continual race around and around... I often make the mistake of making a stand and HOPING pugs might feel obligated to follow suit. I'm often proven wrong. Case in point:

I'll play anything from 170 kph Locusts and glass cannon Adders to 50 kph Highlanders and dual gauss Warhawks. I bought a Dire Wolf yesterday, just for fun, and I really emphathize with assault mech pilots who get left behind. For example, I just got out of a match in my Dire Wolf where I helped the team push forward in Assault. I was on the front line the whole time, I got top score on my team, but when the score was 6-1 my whole team just charged forward like zombies, and even though I was moving at full speed, I was flanked by 3 enemies and left behind.
"So long Tristan. Thanks for tanking the enemy and pushing through their lines, but we're going squirrel chasing now. Good luck."
I was able to survive for some time while my teammates were chasing squirrels, but ultimately I died, of course. People whine when their assault mechs don't push and shield their teammates from damage, but they certainly don't any feel any obligation to protect their assaults in return.
So yeah. The struggle is real. But here's the flip side.
Nobody gives a f*** about light mechs either. And I've got news for you: light mechs can't magically teleport away from danger if they're being attacked by fast mechs. Because enemy light mechs are just as fast, and on many maps you'll just get gunned down as soon as you leave cover to run back to safety. But do you think assault mech pilots are generally more altruistic and willing to assist other lances when they're pinned down and need backup? No, not really. I've had countless matches where my light mech lance has been tanking and stalling superior numbers for an eternity while our heavies and assaults were busy sniping from safety. Do light mech pilots get any praise when they're sacrificing their life (ergo their C-bill and XP earnings) by leaving the fight and returning to defend base, or by capturing other bases? Absolutely not.
"North or south, they sing no songs for Spider light mechs."
The fact of the matter is that every player in a pug match is expendable. Doesn't matter if you're in a big or small mech, Clan or Inner Sphere. People think about themselves for the most part. Everyone else is just a means to an end. I guess if you've only played assault mechs, you get the feeling that nobody cares about you. And the same thing if you've only played light mechs. But I assure you...
In the pug queue, nobody cares about you, whatevever mech you're playing

It's already hard enough to keep up and remind people not to instant push W all the time.
Remember: most of the times it's poor map design as well. I noticed the NASCAR is way less on new River City due excellent flanking and cover positions. The centralized points is much less dominant.
I like maps that make idiots act like idiots. They're ripe for exploitation. So I disagree with regard to poor map design.

Or Alpine Peaks, or Terra Therma. Both got their extreme dominant points. The hill and the centre. The old behaviour to go to H10 (Alpine) or the centre (Therma) is so rusty that it won't change soon.
But fact is that poor map design is contributing to this kind of gameplay. Atleast in my opinion.

But there are times when you go to cut the corner choose the wrong corner to cut and OOPS there you are in the open staring the entire enemy team.
It's not like in the whale you can afford to turn your back.

IMO it need to be tossed in the garbage and be redone completely from scratch or reverted to its original design from the very first beta release, I remember it being a much more interesting map with Craters everywhere and alot better terrain features when I played this game for the first time.
This over simplification of map design, and circular flow with a giant central feature or obstacle needs to be rethought.
The new River city has broken the mold with it somewhat, and is such a relief to play on because there are so many more ways to play it.
People still nascar on it like a bunch of Derps much of the time, but at least there is choice now.

Indeed. Players who should know better.
Before the ECM blanket hit, when driving my Raven i would escort the assaults under ECM and once "safe", would start picket and NARC duties. Seemed to make a big difference in many matches.
