I want to address the words of some users on this thread about assaults and their worth. What is an Assault exactly? It's a tank. Either side only has a few tanks. Assaults have the most powerful weapons and armor in the game. It's not that we're invincible and can solo the other team. We can't. What we can do is provide exceptional mobile fire support in any given direction and turn the tide of battle. I'd say that's pretty important. All it is, is that we tanks are generally best at fighting up front. If we are abandoned before we get there, there goes the teams assets.

It would be stupid to throw away your assets. Besides, we're on your team and want to help you. Help us help you.

TBH, while Assaults should control the battle offensively, I think bad decisions on the part of an Assault pilot can't be made up... whether it is simply on regrouping ASAP (because, they need to figure out the optimal route that minimizes exposure) or understanding when the push optimally.

Teams aren't supposed to completely wait hand and foot on the Assault... it's the Assault's job to establish a position and dominate from that... and I've seen lots of terrible Assaults camping (particularly with LRMs) and aren't the anchor of a fight.

Success requires EVERYONE to do their job... and frankly very often not everyone is doing their part in some way shape or form and then blame others for the failure (fairly or unfairly).

I'm sick of it. I play nothing but a Dire Whale assault and public lemmings consistently leave our assault lance behind and follow whichever mech is in front of them... it's pissing me off. Our lance has the most firepower in the game, the most expensive chassis, the most tonnage, armor in the game, but the rest of the pug mechs consistently ignore us. All we desire is to fight at the front lines. That's what we exist for. Yet here, we are doomed to trek half across the map in the vain hope of trying to rendezvous with our team before we are pounced on from behind by lights and mediums looking for easy pickings.

I tend to escort assaults-especially if I have ecm. Help them to help you kinda thing:)

However expect nothing less than 100% derp in solo Q. All people care about is themselves and their score/fun. You might as well be a bot to them sadly. The solo Q teaches some very bad, nasty playing habits....

3 Easy-to-Spot Bad Habits

1) Using everyone as meat shields instead of "teammates" - Check

2) Standing still is a great idea.... - Check

3) Relying on Red Doritos instead of eyes.. - Check

I support the Heavies. Hell, I even guard the base. You are on your own if I am in a light.

I haven't opened this thread until now, but every time I see the title I imagine snarfy, pudgy little dogs with charging across the battlefield like someone threw a ball.

In Puglandia you don't need to be the fastest mech on your team, just faster than your teams direwolf.

Thank you, you have eloquently stated what I used way too many words to communicate.

This has been a topic since day one.
You have to type "Don't forget your Assault Mechs" a few times.
It gets old though, fast.

In the PUG games I end up in, nobody cares. :(

Would add,

4) Quickly becoming an allies Butt-Plug as they try and back off that ridge of death... (there is nothing to be seen between my Mechs butt cheeks ffs)

My favorite giveaway... Teammates running for the edge of the map or a narrow alleyway with steep walls--anything to avoid contact with the enemy. When more than half the team follows... you're screwed.
