This thread got me to play through Shadowrun again, and sadly its too short and linear for my liking, but man is the writing and artwork good. The mechanics arent bad. But isnt really the table top either.
I may still be playing megamek's Against the Bot campaigns. But heres hoping.

Just leaked by Catalyst. Turn based. Also, it appears (though currently unconfirmed) that the art style for MWO and this is shared. Very cool!
PC Gamer Article here: http://www.pcgamer.c...ith-battletech/

Back in May, we spoke with Jordan Weisman and Mitch Gitelman of Harebrained Schemes. During our chat, we asked about other upcoming projects at the studio and were told that another of Weisman’s older IPs was under consideration.
Our guesses were Battletech or Crimson Skies, and today we know which. Harebrained Schemes is asking fans to help make Battletech a reality once more.
The Kickstarter will launch this fall for funding of a new, turn-based game set in the world of giant, armed-to-the-teeth mechs. When Harebrained Schemes last ventured to Kickstarter for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, it adopted a matured crowdfunding model.
The studio had base funding to make the game, but asked fans to contribute funds in order to make it a bigger, meatier game. Given the language in the media alert, we suspect the same model will be in play for Battletech when Harebrained Schemes begins to seek assistance later this year.
As for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, it will arrive on August 20. This makes the gap between crowdfunding completion and release a mere six months, delivering on the promise to release the latest installment this summer.

Can Mechwarrior Online use this picture for the start screen?

However I've always wished a PC game studio would take a serious crack at doing Battletech: Succession Wars.
OMFG! I bought this game the day it hit my game store! I played it ONE TIME (because I lived out in the boonies and... hillbillies). I did play like 7 times by myself, but I miss this game.

I just started playing MWO a week ago; I played Battletech as a teen when it first came out--and 3025 was *IT*. Hell I remember thumbing my nose when Citytech came out, and feeling AC/20s were broken.
I read my 3025 Technical Readout cover to cover at least 5 times, pages were starting to come out of it.
Then 3050 and the clans hit and I was like... WTF!? But I loved the Black Widows so I stuck it out. Then the Technical Readouts started falling from the sky and there was just an overload. Really turned me off of Battletech in general.
So last week. I looked at the Battletech site to check on the board game--I knew it got rebooted around 2008ish or something.
OMFG the books. There's more books now than there ever were. There's like a dozen Technical Readouts? I felt like an old person with dementia looking through the booklist...
Where am I? What are all these pages? What happened to Hanse Davion? I'm hungry...
I went out to Sarna to try and read a timeline to figure out WTF was going on by 3130... and I eventually just closed the laptop and queued for some drops--maybe it's better if I don't dig too deep.

If I may advise you, try Era Digest: Dark Age (E-CAT35ED003).
This short book might serve as the short introduction to Dark Age, describing the situation in the Inner Sphere as it was between 3130 and 3135. It contains the events timeline and details important factions and their goals - especially so-called spliter factions such as the Spirit Cats, Steel Wolves, Sworsworn, Stormhammers and others.
Should you like to know more about Dark Age, then you choose from two following books:
1)

Era Report: 3145 (E-CAT35223) informs about Inner Sphere factions (IS Clans included), the most important politicians and soldiers. Each faction has 3-4 military units in the book that serve as samples of their respective armies. One part of the book is a Dark Age minicampaign with about two dozens tracks.
2)

Field Manual: 3145 (E-CAT35252) deals mostly with political and military matters. It included detailes overview of all Inner Sphere armies, situation in Periphery and Mercs business.
One chapter is dedicated to new weapons and equipment invented in Dark Age such as TSEMP or Radical Heat Sinks, etc.
The construction and combat rules for new Dark Age units such as QuadVees or Tripods are in the book too.

I'm excited as there hasn't been a non-Clan era based game in almost 20+ years. Bummer for you (which honestly is unfortunate,) is a boon to me!
Hopefully it helps get the core game down with lots of great content before they throw in the Clans and anything past.

You had to really give and take, and consider what massive firepower, super speed, or hella armor would cost in your other areas.
Better than durr hurr, slap on endo + DHS in your everything and boost the engine so you can run 86kph. Boring. Even more so with Clan munchkin tech.

How is that a bummer? You DON'T want them to work out a game with basic tech that they can make sure is 100% balanced and works well before tossing in all the other crazy stuff?
You need a good foundation to build on after all, right? Or is all the stuff I've read on the forums about PGI not building a good foundation which is causing all the issues the game seemingly has, got no merit?
It means none of my favorite weapons or 'mechs.
It doesn't need "balance" as a single player TBS game either. PGI's issues ahve nothing to do with the timeline or tech base either.
If they do advance the timeline in expansions I guess I have those too look forward to.

Id love it if they never brought in the clans. I always pretty much shun IS tech once I can get Clan tech cuz it is just that much better......IS tech really, really looks down right useless when compared alongside Clan tech.
Whats not to love about putting bigger, yet smaller, and more powerful everything into a smaller mech.....CLans can put in 50t what IS cant put in 80t....

Advance time line, IS gets light engine and ERMedL , gg.

Clans are too hot and geared to burst and then chill and that only works when you have cover, a number of IS mechs can do well against clans as it is , not on par but close, and after they all have light engines for extra weight or survivability and ER meds that can on a number of mechs, with enough E hardpoints, exchanged for the LL could work against clans quite well.
To me a balancing act ( IS vs Clans ) before IS has those 2 tech pieces is fools errand as clan ermid and cXL is what makes the clans what they are now.

This game is closer to the ORIGINAL Battletech than any of the previous video games and many of the TT addons and revisions!!!!! But no there are still complaints sighting parts "lore" chosen that are at odds with SOME aspects of Mechwarrior Online.
I got complaints to. I just dont choose to complain about stuff which simply isnt possible in a persistent multi player online game.
Did you ever play BT or some other RPG where there was that one guy who tried to push some random house rule he created that he thought made the game a lot more fun, but everybody else wanted to play Battletech, not Bobtech? That's what MWO is like to me. "It's Battletech, but we changed a bunch of stuff so it's super fun!"
Not trying to convince you I'm right or anything, just offering that those of us who wish the game were more true to the rules aren't just trolling, we just have different desires for the game.
