Well PGI had an imagination problem when it came to the translation from the board game to real time. And a cherry picking problem.
Most of the solutions to their age old problems are all there in the source material, they just didnt immerse themselves in it enough to figure it out. Eventually you get an idea for the actual pacing of the game in the different eras and such, and what the mechs do and cant do.
They went with just a "sequel" to an old franchise pretty much to the T other than graphically, instead of rebooting/reimagining it.
I dont know if that was lack of experience (hunting games...prolly this) or just total lack of imagination.
Though I cant entirely blame them. If Netmech worked as well as MWO (at least you can play it at 120ms, instead of not at all), it would have been awesome.
The problem is that its 2015. Its cool that they fulfilled this child hood fantasty of Mechwarrior 2 actually working in a large online environment...
But man they added literally nothing else to the franchise at all...there isnt a single unique cool game device that sets it apart from other mechwarrior games. In some respects, it falls short for "balance reasons" of some of the past titles.
Sure it looks better...but functionally it hasnt exactly come up with anything new.
