Hmm. So I'm based in the Philippines, and while I had a really great ping for the first few months of the Oceania servers (30-40), recently, I've gotten absolutely terrible ping (November?), in the 380-400 range, with better connections to the far off NA servers. Just ran the traceroute, and it's mostly gibberese to me. About the only thing that seems to stand out is that the connection seems to route from Manila, to Los Angeles, AND THEN BACK to Singapore. Which seems pretty counter intuitive. Is the problem with my ISP or what? And what should I be telling them about this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Location: Metro Manila, Philippines
ISP: PLDT
Connection: 50mbps fibre line.

Ping has seemed to have gotten worse in the last couple of weeks after getting better. Current tracert results:

I'm averaging 220-240 on OC and 210-230 on NA servers (from NZ). OC has improved from the 270-290 it was a month back, though.

Sorry PGI but you've gone about setting up Oceanic servers the wrong way.

Siting them in singapore was your first error, as actual oceanic users have always historically had worse pings TO Singapore and SEA (South East Asia) than we have to NA.

As such Oceanic (or more accurately Oceania) doesn't include South East Asian countries like Singapore.

There really isn't an easy answer to these problems except either locating actual servers in Australia (the typical solution for OCE coverage) or renaming the OCE server to a more accurate South East Asia.

The simple fact is, Australia and NZ will almost always get better pings to US West coast than to any server located in Singapore. It's been this way for many years and realistically, it's not about to change any time soon.

My situation is strange. I'm in China and I can usually get decent pings (now); around 90 on good days, around 160 on OK days, bad days are 250-300.

The big problem I suffer is from errors at log-in and DCs from both 'Mech Lab and in match. These all happen to me frequently and to the point where some days I can't play at all.

Very frustrating. :(

OCE server just derped out. My current match keeps restarting with nobody being able to connect, and my mech is stuck in it forever :/

We ended up having to work with the only team member on red to eliminate their whole team quickly enough before the server derps out again and the match restarts. Here's the screencap of the end, showing everyone except one person DC'd on the other team. I was also logged as 'having left a match', apparently several times in a row...

Oceanic connection to any MWO server blows.

If you don't get a high ping you get d/c far too often.

D/C = death btw.

Dude, I have been D/C from a game and on reconnect I was in same game fresh and only 4 players total were in mechs. The rest were there but no pilots. LoL.

I have been D/C then re-join as a Jenner in CW but I was in Spectator cam. had to log out then re-join again, when I re-joined my Jenner was where I logged out second time.

Today I cannot connect to any game via Oceanic servers. Map/Mode voting finishes then I get kicked back to the home screen telling me the server isn't available. Some other people have reported this too... I'll be pissed if Oceanic gets no support or a laggy connection when the IIC's drop.

I don't know if this is the correct place for me to say this but I have been having many Issues with the oceanic servers recently, much like everyone else it seems. When the servers first came out i experienced a ping of around 60-80 from my home in Perth Western Australia, but I recently have been experiencing pings of 250-300 even on some days, it was even at the point that sometimes i would have a lower Ping to NA servers than to the Oceanic servers. However, I recently installed a VPN Called Astrill, and after connecting it to the Singapore server my Latency dropped from 250 to 60 ms! I have played multiple matches on the VPN at this point and it has been very stable, and have only had a few moments of stutter lasting about a second, far from game breaking.

No they don't have to, its just there standard operating methods.

"oceanic" server is in singapore, lol, no further proof of bad ideas required.

only explanation I can find for it all points towards cost, a server host in singapore is nice and cheap, especially when you compare it to Australia or somewhere actually in the oceanic region.

No, Asia is not Oceanic.......

Playing tfrom Mie, Japan the OC severs are treating me very well.

Almost always under 100ms and I have never DCed from them. Considering one of the main reasons I haven't played this game much was generally having around 300ms to NA I'm very happy to have a server closer.

Same situation I'm in. We should be getting pings well under 100.
If a different ISP has better Perth bound connections then using them instead should fix it. I just have to find out if any ISPs are suitable. Friends with Amnet have gotten pings of 75 in other games that I get 160 in. Real pain to have to research our own fixes to these problems though.

Third day playing and the ping issues have been horrible. Inconsistent results using the test. I'm with iiNet, Melbourne. The first two days were fine. Pity. Was really getting into it. Hope it improves.

my ping averages 220 ms from the Philippines

I miss 50 ping

I got a bunch of guys into the game when our ping was this good. money has been spent.

come on you guys

I used to get 40ms in Manila and now 80ms from Bacolod. For some reason PLDT sends the signal to California first.... You can use the VPN Astril to get your normal ping back. I came to the conclusion that it's better to deal with 320-400 ping and play on NA, the Oceanic server is a ghost town.

Probably not if your playing on the lower tiers.
