I don't think there is one best mech... it depends on how you want to play and what you like, it's not going to be the same for everyone.

Timber Wolf for Clan. I don't think it needs explaining.

Thunderbolt for IS (my favorite is the 9SE, but the 5SS is probably stronger), because quirks.
Do you guys remember when Thuds were considered crap?

Clan: Mad Cat, because it's a well-designed mech that doesn't have a crippling construction flaw like most mechs seem to (i.e. no bad hitboxes or bad engine, has Endo, etc.).
However, the Loki and Cauldron Born are pretty close to the Mad Cat's level, so using either of them instead isn't much of a loss (sometimes their higher mounts can be advantageous, too).

Yeah, without quirks, it was just a fat 65 tonner.

I'm really tired of hearing the pathetic excuse that clan players are just better, which is why they have higher stats.
When the pros play, they gravitate towards clan mechs for very obvious reasons. Above are the current proven metamechs. Pros don't pick mediocre chassis to bring into a competitive environment. They bring only the best.
Anyone who tells me Timbers and Loki's aren't the best are just stubborn.
On a side note, it's also obvious that Firestarters are the best light. No one disputes that one. I'm curious to see how the Cheeto ends up in the competitive scene.

That's limited to Jagermechs and 1 hero mech though, and UAC15 means taking an XL engine on a mech with pretty fragile side torsos. Not that it's bad, but I don't think that's good enough to be considered capable of "wrecking face" anymore.

Jager with 3 uac5 DOES reck face. It has uac5 quirks that make it a real monster.
