For the IS, I think there will be some differing opinions. I think you could make an argument for the Thunderbolt or Jagermech. Although the Cataphract can wreck, it has too many noticeable negatives.

After almost one thousand drops on my 1N, I need to convince myself everyday about this (or go visit a psychiatrist)...

To be honest the Wolverine 6R makes the Dragon 1N a much harder sell... nearly as good dakka, way better hit boxes, and more SRMs for fools who venture close. Also jump jets.
But, I ran the 2xAC5 Dragon before the quirks and I'll run it long after they're gone.

We all may need to join DAKKA ANONYMUS. I love me some Dakka. I have to stay away from Dragons, or I would never pilot anything else...

Best thing about the 6R is that despite its ridiculous DPS, it will not take away a precious Heavy slot so your team can hopefully get more meta Timbies.

Thunderbolt-5SS with 7 MPL for IS
Timberwolf with Gauss + 6ERML for Clan
Both wreck face and both are the easymode mechs. Fully fitted with modules and everything and you have some real pugstompers. You just can't get bad results in those... even with a steering wheel. The 9S is also pretty good but not facewrecking good like the 5SS. And I don't need to say anything about the Timberwolf.
I feel dirty playing those mechs.

Cant the Cauldron Born carry the gauss/erm setup with even more heatsinks and is nearly as fast?

I don't know about heatsinks, but I imagine they are pretty close, BUT the Timber Wolf has JJs, more armor, and better hitboxes. They are also the same speed.

I doubt it.
After seeing what quirks the Pure energy based Top Dog got, i don't see the Black Knight (or anything in the pack) getting anything any better.
They're going to be mediocre at best.

When the pros play, they gravitate towards clan mechs for very obvious reasons. Above are the current proven metamechs. Pros don't pick mediocre chassis to bring into a competitive environment. They bring only the best.
Anyone who tells me Timbers and Loki's aren't the best are just stubborn.
On a side note, it's also obvious that Firestarters are the best light. No one disputes that one. I'm curious to see how the Cheeto ends up in the competitive scene.
As for heavies, TBR/HBR and TDR, as many have said.

That's why the competitive scene is way less fun and why I don't play there anymore. Well that and I'm only competitive in light mechs (speed is love, speed is life) so it's been a while since any decent team considered scouting me.

That's limited to Jagermechs and 1 hero mech though, and UAC15 means taking an XL engine on a mech with pretty fragile side torsos. Not that it's bad, but I don't think that's good enough to be considered capable of "wrecking face" anymore.
Huh, I seem to remember a non-hero cataphract that I fit 2 UAC5s and 2 AC5s into (as well as a few small lasers), though you're certainly correct that it needed XL engines and was fairly fragile.

Well.. that's because its a hero and they can't have the hero take the crown from the others because P2W..
