Sometimes they ask for an opinion.

And then ignores said opinion, because of the "silent majority", despite it being "SILENT".

PGI seems to need a bit better public relations strategy, the official forum should be the natural place to communicate with the players of the game.

There's a lot of noise on this forum, and a lot of forum members more than willing to flame away at PGI without ever hearing what they have to say. I honestly don't blame PGI for eschewing discussions here - too many ragers and trolls.

Come on, they read, and listen.. I have seen tons of things change exactly due to forum posts. Just because they don't respond in threads, does not mean they don't read um..

But really, people respond on twitter, and town halls.. there really is a lot of community interaction if you pay attention.

They will have read the forums, it's just that the forums make up for a portion of the feedback that is used in game dev and isn't as important as those who regularly use them might think. It's also often not worth responding to posts that much, as it takes up a ton of time and interactions always get over analysed.

No, it's just better PR.

If they post on a social site then your friends, specifically the ones that don't play the game, will see the interaction and, if they tag it up right depending on the site in question) it's more likely to get seen by people that have no connection to the game at all. Additionally people who do play but don't check the forums (ie: the majority of the players) but who do have a social media account (ie: the majority of the players) will also see it happening and go "oh, interaction" which encourages them to play. They'll also get news updates that way, which encourages them to play.

Meanwhile an interaction on the forums gets seen by a small portion of those who already play and who see the post in the thread. It might, possibly, get posted around, but it's going to mostly be seen by a small portion of forum users who are already highly likely to play.

And "the teens" are one of the groups with the biggest disposable income and greatest reach to new players, so "yes" PGI do want to talk to them. Lots.

Assume they read quite a lot here, but don't want to be engaged in discussions so they stay silent and sometimes take inspiration or just probe the general mood.... makes perfect sense to me.

Why come here when you can stay on Twitter and get cryptic feedback in a limited number of characters? I mean, some of these posts and suggestions are well written and thought out, complete with charts and graphs and math and stuff. Who needs that when you can get this, instead?

Rus Y U let invis terrain hitbox in game 4?

Better PR and Better Marketing.

since I've had Russ rather angrily complain about some of my forum posts, I can say that that can't be entirely true.

Maybe mostly, but not entirely.

Of course, since the vast majority of Forum Posts are absolutely crap, how much does that truly hurt things?

At some point I thought it was proven that they paid more attention to Reddit than anything else. Or was that just Niko?

If you're lucky. If you use the word "stock" in a tweet to him, it goes completely ignored.

Gosh, what a wonderful way to make a blanket statement about what teens do and don't play. I'm so glad you did your market research and proved that such a large and diverse portion of the world likes one singular game type.

Regardless of how much you want to look down on people with the ignominy of being younger than you the answer remains the same: PGI are out there talking to the wider audience. They are going out there to talk to people who haven't already heard of the game or who aren't already playing it.
Ideally they'll be talking to people who aren't like you.
