Ballistic builds by themselves really have never been good.

The previous meta was Ballistics AND PPCs.

So if people want to run CUAC loadouts, and their mech isn't a Dire Wolf, they should put some lasers on it.

Well...they work well with Goose Waffles because of the high velocity (almost syncs with hitscan) and heatless nature (compliments high-heat lasers).

Lock-on missiles "technically" synergize with them because the missiles don't care where you aim, so you just have to hit them with your lazors and the missiles will ttrack towards wherever the force wills them to go...the issue is just that lock on missiles are gimmicky for their own reasons. :\

My 4 ERML + 2 UAC/5 Loki works well enough, even before the buffs...

Yeah, but you have to THINK with those :D

Multitasking is fine for more experienced pilots, but is woefully out of reach of a new or progressing player. Lasers are point and click. No charge ups, or target locks, or target leading required.

So you are saying spread the damage? That's...fascinating.

So yeah that is what I mean. Good luck trying to get 3 alphas into a good players CT. They will spread the damage and their team will punish you.

It's a shame this game doesn't have enough flexibility or the team just doens't know what they are doing to add land mines, or other ways of taking out your enemies other than just purely boating weapons.

This game will eventually die off due to lack of gameplay options not because of modes.

There just isn't enough unique weapon types that are viable you only have 3 basic types and only one of them is truly viable for a long match.

pgi needs to get with the times it's freaking 2015 if they still haven't added brand new weapons at this point and they really haven't then this game is going to be left behind.

New weapons aside (yes we need more of those. Though many won't be here until 3055), arty shells, and airstrikes used to do 40 damage, and didn't have cooldowns, but that got shot down by people, on account of dealing damage without cost to the user.

I doubt mines will be any different. Maybe if we made a mine layer weapon that occupies a missile weapon hardpoint, and used ammo, that could work. XL 400 BLR-1S, with 4 of those would be fun. I'll call him "Sprinkles". I would lay down mines to rival the fields of Vraks.

yeah because we really need LBX gauss that no one other than fupdup the magshot troll will use.

although I would like to see some area denial weapons like mines. anything that discourages deathballing would probably be beneficial.

That's the Silver Bullet Gauss that you're thinking of. MagShots and AP Gauss are just tiny half-ton Gauss Rifles dealing 2 and 3 damage, respectively.

Just a crazy idea to throw into the mix, but what if, instead of nerfing lasers, we buffed FLAMERS!
I know, I know, it's absolutely insane, but hear me out.

Imagine for a moment, a world where Flamers don't deal exponential heat to the firer. Instead, they fire like a PPC, but with a 180m range. They generate, say, 7 Heat for firing. And, if you hit, the target gets set on fire, and for the next 2 secs, all heat generated by the target is doubled. The values are just for examples, but suddenly Flamers get a use, become a burst weapon rather than a DPS.... HPS..... well.... Staring Contest Weapon. And Laserboats are suddenly terrified of Adders and Firestarters.
Another option is to have them just deal a static heat value, like 10. But I prefer the Heat Modifier, because then it is on the Target to do something, or not, as the case may be. Stun Locking is impossible, theoretically, but people can (and WOULD) shut themselves down if they weren't careful.
Just an idea.

In that case, it is much better to simply boat lasers and forgo ACs in the first place due to better timed alphas. I have seen the tryhard mountain. There were no AC + laser builds there. All the Hellbies and Timbies had laser vomit and Gauss.

That could work. PGI will not implement it, sadly.

The toxicity of this community will never allow a nerf to happen to their bread-and-butter weapon, regardless of how over-used they are or under-powered other weapons may be.

Besides, PGI's never likely to read this forum, let alone this thread.

This idea has been suggested for years. Making flamers shoot fireball projectiles that increase heat....

Not really; it's not a stream of shots, it's a single round. It would be a great option to have for Lights; bringing four of them on an LCT-1V or MLX would be quite awesome. That's 8 or 12 points of front-loaded damage every second or so, depending on how they are implemented, and it costs you almost nothing in terms of weight. Six of them on a DWF or KGC would make for some crazy weapon combinations since it allows for more heat-sinks and heavier lasers, even if they might not obsolete the standard Gauss. The ShadowCat would be extremely pleased; three AP Gauss dealing 9 PPFLD damage to join up with a trio of MedPulse, or a single LPL with two ERML.

Its only real drawback is that it's limited to 270 meters if we do a straight range conversion (297 if we assume a module gets made). That's still way more useful than an AC/2, since it's only half a ton for the same single-shot damage output.

Also, I doesn't really matter if it's a Fireball, or a constant Stream, they just need to make it so that it causes the target to generate 50% / 75% / 100% more heat, and remove the exponential heat curve from the firer. Perhaps make it so the firer generates an additional 50% heat too, and remove the actual heat component from the weapon.

I dunno, it's all just spitballing at the moment about things that could shake up the Meta, without actually nerfing anything.

magshot would make mg and ac/2 obsolete and on top of that it's inner sphere only and is way later on the time line

they will never introduce it
