Only this way, we won't always need to bathe afterwards...

Considering the state of some the places in the world and what people do to each other even in the so called civilized parts of the world we might have been better off staying in the trees, but that is another discussion.

I have no illusions over where I personally sit in the skill level tree (middle to low) so I personally don't care what people think or say about me.

Anonymity on the internet seems to bring out the worst in people, I accept that as a given, but giving people ammo to have a go at people is generally not a good idea, whether it be real life, the internet or in a game world. This is why they never released the Elo rankings in the first place.

I like fat4eyes solution actually it solves all the problems.

The weird part is that most of the people on the MWO forum are adults. I don't get how anyone is so afraid of being called a tier 3 scrub by someone on the internet.

Because competition, no matter the form, in males is always serious business just like FupDub (jokingly) said.

well, making the rating public as is it's stupid, hands down

there should be:
a ) solo queue and group queue elos/ratings should be separated
b ) there should be a special 'ranked' mode with a visible solo queue elo

then it makes sense and can benefit the game; to make visible some vague rating which is the same for both solo and group queues and which is not separated into a special mode it's to make the game a huge disservice... as if adding score to the rating formula wasn't bad enough

I have but a few minor worries ultimately.

1. This rating is a total aggregate across all chassis which could lead to some serious mismatches being possible. Whats good though is that this could be modified by a Battle Value score based on what you chose to pilot.

2.I agree with Terciel who pointed out on Reddit that this may not be enforcable in the group queue since if they use this score averaged across the group you will have severe mismatchez possible. The bigger the group the bigger the mismatch possible.

Public tiers would give rise to a lot of people pointing out their rank when making appeals and setting up strawmans.

However I wouldn't mind knowing for myself how high up the totem pole I'm at.

What it seems you cannot understand, is that a bad player will still have a bad match score even if he drops together with good player. So, its tier will still be the same.

With current system, a bad player can inflate its winning ratio....just carried by good players in group que.

Also, while recruiting, teams want to know how the new teamate does

This wont change... Ever. People always try appeals to authority fallacies and strawmen. Gotta just be smart enough to recognize and contest them.

it's true only for very bad players, for not so bad players a strong group definitely can inflate their rating above what they could achieve playing solo; that's why if you want to have that rating visible the group and solo ratings should be separated

bah, what do you know, tier 4 scrub!

public PSR and even opt-in whould only lead to this. It's the internet, dude! Srsly!

What I would be ok with is an anonymous sum of the PSRs, like team 1 has cummulated 1200 PSR points and team 2 has 1250 points or like the summed up tiers that were mentioned.

Show the tier in the stats page, so everyone can look up its own score. Public stats hurt more than they help.

Just look at games like battlefield or planetside2 with public stats. There are people out there that analyse your stats before reading any posts you make. And they'll find out you once used a flamer or behold, you are an LRM player! Burn!!!

btw the main reason why i dislike the new score in the rating system it's because i'm afraid it can make the game significantly more passive overall, i usually have a pretty high score, it's not hard with a streakcrow

I'm also leery of public rankings. The experience from other games which implemented that has been quoted in many messages.

I'm also worried that an opt-in ranking wouldn't help matters, and the tryhards* would simply assume that a hidden ranking equals poor ranking.

That said, I would be curious to see my own ranking privately. But I'm a little concerned that even this would lead to elitism, as there'd be little to stop people from flaunting their rank, even though their claimed rank couldn't be confirmed.

I agree with Alistair Winter though that public rankings wouldn't be the end of the world. Maybe, just maybe the MWO community is adult enough to handle it. I think certainly we're really old, as far as online gaming communities are concerned. Maybe it'd help.

* With "tryhard" I don't mean someone who's competitive-minded -- there's nothing wrong with that -- but someone who's way too happy to rub their excellence in the face of their perceived inferiors.

This is true. Whether we'd like to admit or not, deep down there's a primitive part of our brain, where we believe -- at least subconsciously -- that being a badass pilot of a Giant Pixel Robot will lead to greater reproductive success. Maybe there are females out there who're impressed by our virtual laser prowess? But when I rave about my 5-kill game my wife tends to look at me with a mixture of mild amusement and pity, which does lead me to be skeptical

One thing I am afraid of, is the same thing that happens in MOBAs/WoW/SC2 multiplayer scene where your Tier is publicly viewable. Players will join through LFG/invite and immediately be scanned for ELO/tier. If their Tier is too low, they will be kicked out of the group, or the better player will adopt "mid solo" mentality.

I'll certainly vote for no, no public ELO/Tier visible.

No one uses LFG anyway, so who cares.

Sometime there is no need for rating to be public to know a player.
It's enough to read some posts.

Streakcrow OP for sure!

People genuinely don't want to know the tier they are in. They'd prefer to not have information on themselves so they can judge the rate of improvement/ ones personal ability in the game.

It's hilariously sad that people are afraid of potentially being bad in a game. Now I'm going to have to make up new jokes about tier matchmaking being terrible or falling asleep at certain hours. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue as elo did.

I think some people dont remember how hard or long it took to L2P and git gud. Or they were carried all this time. I say again... Some people are going to be in for a rude surprise. Knowing my luck i will be one of them.

it wuld be good to make it public at the beginnign and let us see how it changes in relation to our performance. Simply to give proper feedback if the system has flaws or not.
