But seriously can we just have it available privately? I don't see why we need to vote on that.

Full disclosure:
While showing player's tier doesn't affect the player at all, it helps the rest of the player's team determine what kind of performance can be expected from said player and what kind of tasks can be assigned to them.

i.e. when running with a low tier player, ask them to hang back in the group and poke at the enemy instead of having them lead the charge, stuff like that.

ok I can respect that idea, its not negative in the least. I'll still go with OPT-IN.

Paul, could you display the number of tiered players for both teams after each match, without identifyng the individual players? After the match, on the result screen.

For example:

Red team:
Tier 1: 0
Tier 2: 4
Tier 3: 1
Tier 4: 7

Blue team:
Tier 1: 2
Tier 2: 2
Tier 3: 4
Tier 4: 4

With the current rules, we won't know anything about our opposition, except that a confirmed Tier 1 in the match means there weren't any Tier 5 players. It would be nice to have more information than that.

I went with opt in. Although display tier would be great for Solaris. As a warning to fellow players in a match or bragging rights or something to achieve.

I'm not voting with those three limited options available right now.

lol, so regardless of the poll the tier will be shown either to all or to you and a special stat tracking site to which you allow the access to those data, what a nice poll we have there

i am for full disclosure, but i dont want the enemy team to see my rank before the mach has ended. if i am high i will be the priority target, if i am low they will try to bully me for a easy kill...

I think there should be a 4th option: You can know you PSR, but you can't show it (*).

The idea behind it is to diminish bragging but to allow people to see when they go up or down.

You can of course tell it, but who knows if you are lying :P

One thing though. I play really well with some mechs, and not so well with others. The tier system should be per chassis...

There are no proper competitive things in real life, and precious few online, that don't show folks' ranking/rating/whatever.

I understand not wanting to show it ingame necessarily (or at least not on the match screen), but it should be available.

My vote is for opt-in. I would be fine with displaying my tier on the forum profile or as an indicator in-game, but I respect those who don't want to.

What I don't want is to have anything else pop up when I press q during a game. Chassis, name and health % is plenty, even their stupid titles just get in the way.

If there was a way to compare your mech stats vs. the general population, that would be neat. Not necessarily a persistent leaderboard by chassis (as some have suggested at times), but some indication of how you rank for your different mechs (or classes of mechs) would be nice.

It would be interesting to know how it is divided up but I would assume the higest ranks are the largest. The main function of this ranking is to protect newbies after all. Second would be for regular players to have a fair match.

Voted private.

Public tier listings do absolutely nothing for this game except give so-called 'goods' who are in actual point of fact simply grognards with better-than-usual fine motor skills a club with which to club so-called 'bads' who may have more brain than fine dexterity and would make good contributions to the forum - except that they're T4 and so automatically disallowed from having an opinion.

Go ahead and keep track of your own tier. Screencap it and brag if you have to. But I'd vastly prefer for the tier ranking to be a personal goal between you and the game, and not some random flag a handful of randomly selected Monster-guzzling teenagers can wave around to try and convince everyone that they're Messiahs of MechWarrior, everything they say is gold, and why hasn't Piranha hired them to Fix The Balance™ yet?!

And you are wrong. There are a lot of people that are not tryhards and ok to be 4-5 tier, and also people that don't think that they should show off their tier 1. So no, you won't be able to 'realize' what tier player is if it's hidden. And you can take a guess about it even now anyway.

I'll likely not display my tier no matter what it is. In a match, we're stuck with each other regardless - and on the forums, I prefer to stand or fall on the strength of my reasoning, not my hand-eye coordination.

I see the merits and detriments of 'Private Only' and 'Full Disclosure'. There are more than a few valid points on both sides of the issue.

That said, I will most likely make my ranking public (I am not afraid to admit that I am a casual and that I'm not all that good), but just because I feel this way doesn't mean that others must suffer any sort of grief for it... so yeah, Opt-In for me.

Now, ideally, my stats would always be available for me to see and it just comes down to choosing to display my ranking publicly.

I think that is a false assumption. I know I wont be any higher the 4 and I will display it proudly. I think only those who wont will be those who are bragging and want to hide how bad they are. And that will be known.

I'm quite sure that if someone hiding their T1 rating is constantly having their ideas shot down and repeatedly called a scrub, ego will eventually kick it. :o

As others have said, opt in means only those that want to (read; are in the top 2 tiers) will show it and the rest will be assumed to be T5.

Full disclosure can also mean those in T5 will hopefully get more sympathy and help.
