I think opt-in might be the happy medium here. Sure people will assume you're Tier 5 if you don't opt in but that's not really any different than our current system. People just assume you're low ELO or steering wheel underhive if you don't have some claim to greatness.

it depends on how the score is counted, it needs some testing (another reason why they hid the exact psr, we could see its changes after every match)
it may be maxing damage, maxing component destruction, maxing assists (probably the most detrimental to the team... lashing large laser beams here and there doing almost no damage but touching everybody), maxing scouting etc

I think they said PSR will depend on match score. And I see literally nothing changing to the worse if people try to max their match score. Imo you are seeing a problem that will not exist in reality.

For the people who fear that some will be left out of group because of their tier, players have full freedom to choose who they play with. Nothing to be angry about that. And alot of very good players quite frankly are not like this. They might raise an eyebrow for tier V, but that's about it.
CoC should protect from abusive behaviour. I know several people who have been temp banned from game and forums because of this. Remember to report.

well, let's put it this way, one of the most common ways for poor players to max their match score during all these 30 score events it was using an lrm mech... you see the problem here? it can be kill steals, waiting till your team softens enemies to steal the kills, poor players will run lrms, good players may shoot arms and legs from every enemy mech which they see with gausses instead of aiming for ct etc etc; well as i have said, tiers only won't probably steer people that much, but the gameplay in the future will probably be more passive (since people will not want to risk to get a bad score) than now

I would prefer to group with low tier players anyway. Because it means I will get easier opponents. The lower the tier of the palyers in your group is the more CB you will earn per match on average.

Nope dont see the problem. LRM was never the best way to max macth score. If more players really did this it would mean I have an easier time.

it doesn't matter if they succeed or not, it still will negatively affect the gameplay

I want to be in a low tier so I can play casually. Get a few kills, do some damage, not worry about some tryhard cheese build every 5 seconds, organized drop callers with firing lines. Yeah, keep that crap in CW, organized tournaments, or the high tiers for the guys who just get all sorts of turned on by it. I want to just pug around and have fun, occasionally having a really good match.
I do not play videogames to challenge me.
I have middle aged reflexes and everything that can be done to reduce the twitch in the game is a positive. So sayeth my wallet.
I'm not here to "prove myself" to a bunch of epeen waving teens and social misfits. My time is more important than that.
I am not interested in always having to play lazorvomit because the weapons balance in this game is not Rock, Paper, Scissors. It's Rock, Rock, Rock because the derps who can't handle LRM paper got it all but removed from the game at a competitive level and that means nobody takes scissors since you can't win with that anymore really comparitively.
So you go have your hardcore tiers, lock the doors behind you and don't come out. I just want to hang and have fun with the few hours I currently will play in a week. It's sad. I get more enjoyment out of this game editing video of the few good matches I have than playing the game myself. That's pretty darn sad when you get right down to it. "Great video! But it's like slamming fingers in the car door to get it".
So the next time you see someone wanting to remain low tier, it's not cause they want to farm. it's because this game is no fun for them, and they just want to have a skill level for those who aren't going to devote their life and raison d'etre to it.

So the players won't be discouraged before the match, but have a chance to see how skilled the players were in the match afterwards.
CSGO also does it that way and it helped me to understand why I played good or bad during a match.

Publicly showing all stats would promote something called stat sniping. It is where people will focus on killing the players with the best stats first.
This is quite evident in a game called World Of Tanks where a third party came up with a rating system. People would select to focus firing down an individual solely on their stats. Yes, that sucks for someone with the higher stats in a match but it ends up harming the match as a whole.
Consider this scenario, a pesky light that keeps nipping at everyone's backs? Yeah but that Highlander has better stats and thus the highlander gets focused whilst the light kills off the missile boats in the back.

There will be two kind of situations: people shoving their e-**** in everyones face and other people trying to find gentle words to express "nah, I'm not playing with you, you're low!"

This right here is the one thing that I'm worried about. I've witnessed a lot of "trash talk" and somethings that I'd almost class as "cyber bullying" because the player was new/not as good as other's in the match. I do realize that they will match like tier with like tier, but, as stated previously, there are people who are tier 5-4 and fully believe that they should be tier 1 and will act as such and put other people down, and just plain be an ass to others because they may be a "lower tier player". I can see this causing a lot of good, but also causing a lot of pot stirring ><. I like the opt-in method, I also like the full disclosure (hopefully make the {Richard Cameron} think twice about opening their cyber mouths). Not sure which one to vote for.

DISPLAY for the planet to see.
and let the NUMBERS talk.
no more hiding.
no more lies.
no more crud about anything people have issues with. a lot of other systems plainly display rankings...!

Its a good option because for newbies and up-and-coming pilots it allows them to display their rank when they are comfortable - not be forced to chase a rank from the very beginning.
But...
If there is an opt-in option, there should also be an OPT OUT option.

The only reason for anyone to see their tier is for boasting, and i don't see how boasting is of any value what so ever.

as for the poll I put opt-in, if someone doesn't want to have their rank shown why should they be forced to?
if they want to do something public then maybe just do a leaderboard thing like they do for the weekend events. in week/month of X here are the top 50/100/whatever people in the game. the "yea I'm awesome" folk can have their awesomeness on display (and target on their backs) and the "i just started playing yesterday" folk can blend in with unlisted player #51/101 on the list.
