Opt-in looks to be the trend, and I support it.

You can't have true tier results when the Elitists are fighting people who are playing non-meta mechs and/or people leveling new mechs (aka a Drunk Mech). If you want to earn a gold medal than you need to compete verses other medalists putting forth their best effort too. I want to see a league mode which would pit other same tier players against each other so the true cream rises to the top, and not some noob crusher.

PSR is fine for match making but it doesn't have to be displayed. If it is a question of the size of the e-pen than use a real metric which compares real effort.

The fact is PUG matches can have peeps who just want to blow stuff up and don't carer about the results because its just fun to shoot things at the end of a day. Heck, one night a warrior could be 6 beers in and having fun but if he was planning for a match for the win he wouldn't have shown up with two hands tied behind his back.

PSR for match making is not a true measure of a pilot/fighters capability to bring his "A Game" to a match. True tiers should gauge a pilots best efforts against others best efforts.

An NBA player most likely has different levels of competitiveness for a game with friends and family as opposed to his "JOB" playing other NBA players.

Just having a few people's tiers visible will let you know what your tier is, roughly... So that pushes me towards allowing people to show/hide at their discretion.

I do agree that when certain people post random stuff in the forums, having tiers visible will probably help to end discussions faster and to avoid some stupid skill-based arguments without evidence... so in that sense I wouldn't mind if everyone's tier is visible.

Also we should know where the tier will be displayed... forums only? While playing? Only after the match is done (i.e., you see your team's tiers but not the enemy until after)?

Hopefully not in-game as people will tier-hunt. :)

I also voted for opt in/out (dont care which), that way players have a choice. Private doesn't make that much sense because without something to compare to, improvement is much harder.

There have been some pretty good points made. I love the idea of the number of players per tier in a match, That way people can see that even if they are getting rolled, it may not be because of skill but luck can also play a big part.

Luck not only plays a part but I know I personally do very well in certain builds and suck in others. Hell in some of the uber meta builds I still suck but by customizing it to my play style instead, I end up doing much better. Meta isnt always everything.

Some people have good days and other days or even matches are great. The thing about having tiers is that they do fluctuate based on averages so that one bad day may not cause you to drop all the way down to the bottom rung nor will that one game in ten million, where you actually achieve the "Death Star" achievement raise you to the top.

Dude! Lance mates don't let lance mates pilot drunk!

I have given this a day to sink in, and read all the posts here, and have agreed that the ones who do not wish to display their ranking for whatever reason could give off the wrong impression. I now go with full disclosure, for that reason. The community has enough of the elitist attitudes out there, I KNOW that I am a lesser player, but am working dilligently to improve my skills and mechs as best as I can without buying my way to the top tier. Community support is one thing, elitist hoarding of the best just because you can spend the money does not make one good at a game. Only time and practice and attitude makes one better.
Even the best players can still learn something new.

This would be a more informed poll if we knew how the tiers were composed. Vigntiles determined based on creating equally sized buckets? An absolute rating range?

Regardless, that should be revealed along with the ratings. Individual absolute rating rather than tier should also be an option.

It should be opt out rather than opt in.

I would like to vote but the option "don't show it at all" is not there!

I think it will bring even more cheaters around! Short dicked ********!

This is closest to that

Gun Shy - I don't feel my Tier should be displayed publicly, only visible to me. (442 votes [10.99%])

Sadly he very plainly stated that they will NOT show how tiers are calculated.

I say option to disclose but only in part of your name or title. I say full disclosure but make it not optional to display it when an ally targets you or pulls cross hairs on an ally. Keep enemies skill hidden. However, all battlemechs should be marked visually (rank or tier).

Just my two cents worth.

Voted to keep them hidden. Games like WOT have shown how much toxicity public stats can cause, and their contribution to poor gameplay.

WOT + XMV = people ranting about their "noob team" and that we might as well give up now because we "have only 45% chance to win. GG" then they go suicide.

Let's not introduce that here.

Missing an Option. "I don't want it to be viewable at all, privately or publicly."

Its best to see this to be at a choice option. Full Disclosure will lead to serious consequences and will NOT help the game's lifespan in the long run. Giving us a choice is best. Not everyone wants stuff displayed which is understandable. lets not forget new players wouldn't find it good at all and it will prevent players from coming into MWO. Paul. keep it simple. Don't forget. We had a disaster awhile back with public queue not being allowed choice of modes and it was something that later got reversed due to a serious amounts of complaints. either way, We have to make the right choice that everyone would be ok with.

for me: I'm for opting in. It should be the choice of the player, on whether or not to allow the public to know ones skills' rating.

I would like to know where the tier level will be displayed.

Before a game upon matchup?
After a game with everyones score?
Above my mech next to my name in game?
Only on my forum profile?

The where makes a big difference.

Full disclosure... what is this tread lightly approach take action PGI - Pug matches the new guys might more readily listen to the calls made by a top tier player. This would improve the experience for everyone in that match. Less dumb tactics is always a win

As a professional soldier and leader with numerous upper tier schools, deployments and a multitude of tactical training and assessment courses under my belt and a resume that reads like a Bond film I would like to make two points:
ONE) None of that makes any difference as to how well someone plays a video game. I've seen out of shape couch potatoes who live in their mom's basement who can outfight any SEAL or Green Beret in single combat on Call of Duty.
TWO) Number One doesn't matter much in this game. Scores largely depend on how well the group can band together and fight. This is a team game.
I'm a pretty decent shot on this game and am great at utilizing terrain and tactics to move and shoot. But in a bad team I'm often one of the first killed while trying to hold a flank alone or lead an attack as others simply run away at the first sign of trouble....or wander around studying the fauna and flora. So no matter how good a player is, if their team sucks they are often severely hampered. In a good team I often get 2 to 3 kills and damage 8 or more enemy Mechs. In a bad team I'm lucky to get a single kill as I spend most of my time trying to shore up the defense or prevent a total team collapse.

So, unless the Devs can determine a way to account for these less empirical aspects of team play and leadership this Tier system is nigh unto meaningless.

Thats exactly what i think about that score.
Well, except the soldier part.

Greetings

P.s:I would like to see some kind of score or other progress indicator, but have to admit that I don't know how such a thing can even be representative. So many mechs, variants, loadouts etc. ??

Without the first quote this post can be even more missinterpreted then it would be anyway.

You make good points. Being an asset to your team is more than what kind of scores you achieve. It's called intangibles.

Sometimes while waiting for MM I think I wouldn't mind horrribly if there was no ranking system at all. Just balance the team by weight and keep the clan/Is ratio about the same. MM would be a lot quicker then I bet.

We do not have enough population to split fights by tiers.
