Displaying Pilot Skill Rating (Psr)

I would think it would be useful to a group leader when assigning lances or to figure out a ballpark of skill level for where all your pilots are so you have a rough idea of what to expect from them.

I agree, and these people you are talking about are not those im referring to. Those im referring to are not newbies either.
Yeah, and we already can ignore those, or prove them wrong. My worry is that this will just make the forums even more hostile.

I will likely choose to display my stats, but I strongly believe that choice should be left up to the individual, as circumstances vary.
edit: also, use of the term "gun shy" introduces bias into your poll, but whatever - not my fight.

I can already see it:
Player A has a good opinion/idea
Player B: My Tier is higher than you, you're clearly an idiot. If you weren't, you'd be in a better tier.
We already have a lot of that in the forums, and in game, already. At least it's vague, and looked on as childish right now, but if you make tiers public, can you imagine how much worse it will get. Sorry, until the human race decides to stop being @$$holes, I don't think any kind of ranking like that should be made public.
I keep seeing this reasoning pop up and I don't quite understand it. The argument of a low tier player coming up with an ACTUAL GOOD IDEA (not just some idea he thinks is good) and being attacked because of his tier is silly. You say we have a lot of that in the forum already- show me these threads. Where are these arguments? I can only think of two.
1. LRMs are easy godmode weapons.
2. LBX weapons are great vs lights/critical hits.
And both of them are wrong.

I love guys like you whom speculating are at is best because Tier 5 is already been defined as the 'noob' tier by guys like you. Which exactly proves my point.
Tier 5 is actually below 'Noob Tier' since new players start at Tier 4.

We already have this mentality that if player X is a well known competitive player, then he has to be right regardless of the idiocy he's spouting. Tiers will just reinforce that.
You mean THIS is going on?
Do not expect it to ever stop.

Tier5 spotted
God forbid we start acutally listening to the people who understand the game mechanics instead of the mouthbreathing underhive when discussing balance.

I think everyone is way over thinking what PGI intends to do with "displaying my Tier". I don't think it will be in-game, or even in the Game client itself. I think it will be in someones profile on the website. And if it is in the game client, I would think at most it would be somewhere in your pilot info (or new incoming pilot tree).
PGI generally tries to make things simple, until we here in the forums have our great ideas and make the whole thing convoluted and messy.
K.I.S. PGI. Display/Not display in the website profile. Then if someone really wants to know your Tier, they can look it up on the website (if the person decides to share it).

That's what I meant by my last sentence: "If player Tiers are displayed elsewhere (like in the Forums) it would be even easier to come up with a Kill First list."
If it's displayed on the website instead of the game client, it'll be even easier to come up with a Kill First list, therefore a smart high Tier player will never display their Tier if given a choice.

I dont disagree with your statement at all. Im generally saying that (and I quoted your post as it was the one that was right there at the time....sorry...poor form) people are suggesting all these different ways PGI may implement this idea, and I think PGI tries not to over think things as a rule. The easy way is in the Forum profile, and anyother way will just be plain ugly and really not a good use of dev resources IMO. :-)

Tier sizing: categorized by apportioning playerbase into x% for each tier, or a unique x number of players per tier (obviously tier 5 has undefined size) ?
Tier display: well, if people are going to hide their tier, they are either embarrassed about having a low tier (or maybe even mid tier) or someone masking their tier 1/2 skill level. Most competitive players know the competitive ones out there; the good ones hiding their tier will not be spared in combat, of course, and the unknown ones are more likely to be mid-low tier anyways. The decision to display tiers just seems fairly pointless when players can infer a person's tier despite opting not to display it.
Regardless of how the display would work, opt in or forcibly, I am hoping the tiers are displayed in the post-match screen rather than pre-match. While it does not prevent people from eventually compiling a database of who is what tier and so forth, it helps to mitigate the players who rage-quit before the match when they simply see a 12 man (any unit!) or 2 4 mans on the opposing team.

And i get the feeling that this community isn't as bad mainly due to the lack of communication and the ability to die and then leave. Imperius' signature pretty much shows what'll happen. Anyone not public is considered a ******* and attacked.
- Signed, *******. Not a name I took, but the name the community gave me.
Edit: Neat word banlist, kinda slow though.

That's false assumption. I know many top FPS players who are "mouthbreathers" when it comes to game mechanics and balance.
The recent banwave also undercuts your argument - you would lend more credibility to someone who has hacked his way into the upper tiers.

Heroes of Newerth's MMR community... Glorious memories. I disagree with your last statement though, it can only bring more entertainment to the MWO scene, so it's a good thing ! More popcorn is always good.

If you want to be the squirrel in a light 'mech that distracts the enemy team, that's great. Now that I think about it, displaying or not displaying your Tier could be a whole new level of Information Warfare. Keep them guessing by turning it off, be the squirrel by turning it on, make them think the rest of your team is the same Tier as you even though your teammates' Tiers aren't displayed, etc.
