We will see with the next active player count update.

So since the first one was....um never, that would be never then?

I think you're on an island bro. The new forest colony is hands down the best map PGI has put out.

I like the new map.

Interesting battles going on there.

From range to brawl - anything can be done with plenty of cover. As it should.

The bushes and forest can hide mechs and are harder to spot. Great work.

The only thing i dislike are these darn pebbles, stones etc for Assaults.

The new maps are great. Sadly, we players still congregate in the same spot ... like cows coming home for milking at dusk.

Hopefully over time people will make better use of the extended terrain and features. Certainly at the comp level that will be the case.

I do find all the foliage and masking more difficult to fight in. But that's what it would be like fighting in a Mech in a forest. So I'm not going to complain about it - I'd like MWO to be more simlike and less arcadey.

I think the problem now is the 2 new maps are so much better than all the rest I get disappointed if I don't get them. I had 5 in a row on the new FC and they were all great close games that flowed across the map. Was the best hour I've had on this game for a long time. They are better now they made the majority of games happen during daylight hours.

Island party of 2. So which one of you is the Spaulding ball and which one is Tom Hanks?

I, for one, really love the maps. They're substantial improvements over the old ones, they look good, play well, and support a myriad of different playstyles. It's not like Alpine peaks, where if you land in a Brawler you might as well shove a popsicle up your bum and call yourself sweet-buns.

The only thing i dislike about them is the dynamic day cycle (and even then, i like the IDEA of it, just the implementation of extremely accelerated time-scale and jarring transitions from different times of day, i do not like). If they simply made the time not move during the match and be simply set at a certain time on the start of the match and STAY there, it'd be perfect.

the new revisioned maps are showing great promise. however i wish they would have used more of the vertical space. there are a couple places where it would be possible to get on top of some of the rock formations blocked off with invisible cubes, which would make excellent locations for spotting and sniping, but the map pretty much forces you to stay on the ground.

I know what you mean -- there are some places you're just dying to get to but you bounce off an invisible wall, which is frustrating. I can only assume that when they did some playtesting they gave such a huge advantage to the mechs that could get up there that it was near map-breaking. Assuming that's the case, I wonder whether they could make some visual tweaks to make it more obvious you can't get there, and more "natural" (although what that might be I'm not sure).

Cowface aside, you're right. I like the new forest colony very much but I'd quite like to see a little more of it than h10.

I like FC, honestly. Lots of places to run and find new locations to lob LRMs from and places to get involved in brawls. But jets are really needed to get around some of the obstacles. I just don't like the frame rate hit my machine took. Turning the graphics down helps but I've been getting some nasty rubber banding and torso jittering lately.

By the way, running the repair tool in the patcher seemed to help some of that for me last night.

Some of the decrease in assault mechs and the rise of the heavy may be because of the midrange engagement envelope is FC and River City. Heavies are better all-arounders for that kind of thing. For the Atlas having issues, I counsel an ALRM15 or 20 along with the AC20, or replace the AC with a gauss rifle and keep the SRMs, so they can fight at long range as well as mid or short range.

Except for the time it takes to get to the engagement, I am not sure why you think your Atlas is a problem, especially on the new forest colony. Old forest colony you could be sniped from the starting points a few seconds into the map. New one that is impossible and there are tons of rolling hills, rocks, etc that afford cover on the entire map and create dozens of mid-short range engagement points where the AC20/SRM/ML Atlas excels. I've rarely seen any long range engagements on the new colony, the map just isn't conductive for it, the only thing that is missing is the tunnel. New River city is a bit more open and has some snipe areas, but the old one was also a map that could be a snipe fest at spawn without even moving.

And both new versions are worlds better than Alpine for slow movers/short range builds so I can't see how anyone would think they are the worst maps. But to each their own I guess.

The new map just plain rock.
You never know where the enemy is gonna pop up from.
If thinking is not your cup of tea then perhaps this is not the game for you.

Can I please have a straight answer on this: in the new forest colony do the destructible smaller trees block shots of projectiles or not? I kept firing Gauss at someone through them and the Gauss round seems to "explode" when it hits the tree and destroys the tree. This leads me to believe it is not going "THROUGH" it and hitting the enemy but is in fact being blocked by the destructible tree. Is this the case, or is that just an animation showing sparks but the gauss has in fact penetrated the tree and hit the enemy on the other side?

In a dev video log, they said destructible did not block shots, because adding the code to guarantee that everyone saw the same tree being shot down was too much for the netcode. So, destructible trees being knocked down are client side only, and do not block shots.

If you think otherwise, and are sure you saw a shot get blocked by a destructible tree, email support with a bug report.

Sooo
You hate it because you can't make good use of you're slow 100t brawler, since it's slow and short ranged
Well seems kind of working as intended

All together these new maps seem more like actual battlefields

You wanna have tidy and tournament like?
Go Solaris

Side note
wow been sooo long since we were able to see player count
Don't think that's gonna happen again really

COMPLETELY OFFTOPIC
This is the worst image macro I've ever seen for "stop being lazy". That dog looks so comfortable, so happy, I actively want to be MORE lazy, to see if I could be that happy!
