We're fighting on a planet with faster day and night cycle. Deal with it, Mechwarrior.

But I will agree the lag thing does happen. Just not as often for me. In general the new maps are harder on my comp. So they could stand to do some optimization to it.

Precisely. I'm done arguing with folks that can't spell or comprehend basic astronomy or physics.

Dynamic days do drive me pretty f*ckin nuts. The fact it's totally unrealistic with the timescale makes it irritating and mind-boggling, but I'll refrain from having a dig at PGI here because it was worth giving it a shot and I get why they did it in this way, but it definitely needs tweaking. Also, it's not helped by the fact that heat and night vision have a much shorter range of sight (I understand why that is so too - I'm in a good mood today obviously. :) )

I was even tempted to just up my brightness/gamma on my monitor to suit, but that's stupid....right?

Also, IMO, the dawn/dusk lighting is generally infuriating to me, because there is enough light you can see without night vision, but not enough to make anything out really. So if you use night vision, or even do not, some one with their gamma cranked will have an advantage in view distance.

Night should be DARK. it should be so damn dark cranking gamma is flat out worse then using the in game vision modes. ESPECIALLY, on a map like the new FC in the middle of "nature". River City should be darker too, which would make the street lights actually matter also.

Overall I think it needs some work yet.

I totally agree with this. These gamma guys shouldn't be able to see farther than I can with night vision....

Unfortunately since they unlocked gamma, everyone should have their gamma cranked to the max, like it or not. I did. I hate it. But there are folks out there with not only gamma cranked, but brightness too, just to get an edge.

The only solution is for PGI to lock it again. But that will suck, too, because they make it so darn hard to see anything to begin with in this game. We shouldn't need to be in heat vision 90% of the time.

I don't mind the not-quite-dark nights. Axial tilt. Living up here at 60 degrees north, that's a normal midsummer night for me.

And I don't mind the quick cycle either, although I think either River City or Forest Colony could be set to cycle slower or be entirely fixed. It's a bit strange that it's the same on two (presumably) different planets.

But the overarching problem is that there are just too many maps with visibility impaired in one way or the other. Be it dark, smoggy, or both. At least on this planet visibility is crystal clear compared to MWO, most of the time.

That's the only thing i like about Alpine.
No filters, no effects, just clear sky and snow.

If only the map itself wasn't so biased against Brawlers.

Well, as the title says, i'm not a big fan of the dynamic day cycle we have in the newly renewed maps like the River City and Forest Colony. [...]

I said exactely that a few days after the River City overhaul.
Back then, most people flamed me and only a few agreed.

Yes, I'm grouchy now.
I want a cookie :(

Its really unnecessary feature. All its do is adding lag.

The day night cycle is way to fast, other than that its a good thing, generally.

It's pretty unbalanced too, one starting side has a clear advantage (the one where you can get first onto the high peak).

I like the day night cycle and also don't mind the speed too much.

The speed needs to be quicker for the cycles because our matches are quick. It's designed so that a player needs to adapt on the fly to changing conditions (which I like) and if it took too long to happen, matches would be over before the cycle means anything.

As for immersion breaking, none of our matches take place on Earth yet people compare it to Earth all the time. You are playing on an alien world that doesn't need to abide by Earth's rules.

Simply put, the planet's rotation is much faster than Earth's rotation so the transition between day and night happens quicker. Also, you don't have to be dropped at noon and match ends at midnight you know. You can be dropped just before dusk and play to just after sundown.

Honestly, I think some people hate the cycles mostly because they hate how crappy the visions are (heat and thermal). Ifvthosr visions weren't SUCH a handicap, I think people wouldn't mind so much.

I think an improvement to the alternate vision modes are what really needs to be addressed.
