I'm just sick of kickstarters and crowdfunding, and early access alphas.

The vast majority of them that I have been enticed to give money to have been major disappointments and now-a-days the second i see anything like that on STEAM I'm more inclined to run, not walk, away from it.

If the games going to be any good I can wait til it's actually a game to buy it.

That said I'd love a game along these, or MW Tactics, line when it's complete.

This game wasn't kickstarted.

Right it was crowd funded or thats what the president of IGP called it every time a mic was put into his face

"Speaking to Gamasutra, Infinite Game Publishing parent company boss Nick Foster said that
MechWarrior Online was traditionally funded at first, but then used
crowdfunding to make up any shortfalls.
“We’ve raised minimal investment funds to build a viable product for
each of our games. We then launch it [in beta] and use that minimum
viable product to start generating an income stream,” he said.
“We keep a very close partnership with our developers and use that
income to reinvest in the game, build out the features that the users
want, and head into a period of ongoing development. New content, new
features.
“The product will be a lot better for players because of the
crowdfunding. It’s allowed us to maintain a higher level of ongoing
development in the product, than if we were waiting for momentum to
build immediately after going live. In the next few months, we’ll be
able to release a lot more features.”

MechWarrior Online's long-awaited open beta begins today, partially made possible by a successful crowdfunding initiative that's raised over $5 million, without the help of Kickstarter.

PGI is not "teaming up" with Harebrained Schemes, instead they [Harebrained] are consulting with Catalyst Game Labs. Basically in no news item for this BattleTech game is PGI announced by name. PGI likely licensed the use of Alexander Iglesias' art style used in MWO. But in any case, PGI is not actually programming, developing, or publishing it, insofar from what has been announced - that's all Harebrained Schemes' ballpark.

Here's the relevant part explained in the interview:

Quote

Mike McCain [Art Director for "Returns" and Creative Director for "Dragonfall"]: That was definitely something on the art direction side of things I want to make sure we’re able to make ‘Mechs look really big, and have that kind of weight and power about them. Expect lots of things to step on and explode.

Nic Jansma [Sarna.net Founder]: By the way, I love all the promo art!

Mike McCain: We’re using the base designs that MechWarrior Online uses. We’re going to be putting our own spin on those, for our era and our style.

And it is still being crowd-funded. That's what f2p development is about these days. I suppose they could quit selling stuff but I'd much rather see the game developed further.

shame the concept of a a Unit based "Mech Pool" never got implemented, where you could pool your unloved and unused chassis in a community chest where your unit mates could use them,

They could get rid of "trial" mechs, and give like 1/100 the income of what your (temporarily) donated mech earned. The borrower can't customize, but you can put in whatever you want, knowing full well a good mech will bring in more cbills, and maybe put your pilot name next to it so the players would know when they got a good one, or a trolling maniacs.

For all the flak PGI gets about MWO, to me, personally, MWO introduced me to the Battletech universe. I have even gone so far as to read some of the novels (the Grey Death Legion). I find it intriguing and really enjoy that the battlemechs look and feel distinct moreso than most 'mech games/shows/novels.

Therefore, as I also like turn-based cRPGs, I absolutely cannot WAIT to see what HBS comes up with for Battletech. I am a bit sad that I will not have the opportunity to use my clan mechs, but hope that in a future installment they will be added (you know, by 2020 or so...).

I am sure, as an added bonus it will be fun to see some familiar forum posters once the new game has a website to post on!

Not going crazy because I know Heavy Gear Assault will be here first to tide me over. If they do their arena combat right with the right spectator tools, it could be the esports mwo wish it was.

I wish I could put Corporate logos for the manufacturer of my Gauss Rifle and medium lasers on my mech. I mean if solo queue is nascar, then we should look the part.

Decals confirmed for HGA! Article at the end of post...

So far heavy gear assaults mechs look like the stay puffed marshmallow man with guns... that's not good.

But yes I am excited about this one.

The art direction of Heavy Gear has been from it's very beginning a split of angular northern gears vs rounded southern gears as two different design philosophies took shape on the planet Terra Nova. If you don't like the rounded southern style choose to pilot northern gears and kill all the Stay Puff you want!

Heavy Gears always looked like that...they are based off of VOTOMs, which are mean to be more "believable" than visually AWESOME. Though they are also closer to Power Armor than Mechs

Spot on!

Southern Gears are the ones that look like they are retaining water.

Roll in a Northern ride and you'll be angular and edgy. Jaguar/Tiger for a big'un, Cheetah for fast and light. Hunter if you're a total BA.

Run HAC in one hand and LAC in the other. Ensure you have adequate storage for all the tears you harvest.

I play hga every night.

I saw you in Heavy Gear Assault just yesterday didn't I? Good to have you in game and if you have any questions just ask on the HGA forums! I hope you can make it for Play with the Devs on Friday night at 8pm EST!

I totally fear that HG will be a super twitchy shooter with 180kph roller jets. HG2 totally ruined what was a great game play style versus HG1 imo.

Well not everyone will be taking JJ capable gears and they are a major drain on fuel which can cause you to run out and your V engine to die. This will leave you stranded and a sitting duck! MekTek has been very good about creating pros and cons to everything. Loose your fuel tank and use your JJ's and you'll be done for in minutes! Also once you run out you have a short reserve of Hydraulic and Electric energy storage that allows you to walk a short distance and then SMS (Rollerskate) a short distance. Lots of work is being done to the game and it's constantly improving, keep and eye on it and join the forums to keep up www.heavygear.com

I'm really happy to see all the interest in HGA and MekTek! So here is an AWESOME article on HGA: http://mmos.com/edit...vy-gear-assault

Some of them post here: http://www.shadowrun...rums/categories , which will probably be where the BT-Game forum will be added to or look similar anyways. I visit this one too: http://bg.battletech.com/forums/ and follow Xotl's work for their extensive work on RATs.

As far as expansion possibilities by HBS, I fully expect large expansions (like Dragonfall) and free updates as they've done for their current games. 3050 could be a possibility, but Jordan Weisman has been dreaming up a new MW to start back in the 3025 timeframe for a while now - its what they wanted MechWarrior 5 to be. And depending on how moddable it is; people might just add Mechs to the game themselves.
