Haha, hopefully a 5 page thread and a poll with just under 300 votes (almost all in favor) counts as "interest.

Hmmmm idk... That one's a tad creepy...

But seriously, only 8 ppl out of 296 are against this. I'm pretty sure that makes things clear.

First thank you for making this thread, I really hope we get those things.

Back in planetside 2, you could customize alot on your vehicles, from tires and horns and Lighting and hood figures.

Here are some examples of different plating for the magrider tank:

For mechs, I especially like things around the cockpit - different glass colors, glowing things everywhere like here for example:

And different weapon models /casings. Lookin at you, mister Catapult!

I did not vote.

Because we cannot put camo patterns on our Invasion Wave ONE mechs yet. Seriously, how ******* long will it take ? All the later releases are getting or have got it.

I will not spend until I can change my Invasion (wave one) mechs' camo patterns. **** the custom geometry.

Camo patterns on special mechs (Invastion, Reistsance, Etc) is already in the works. Several of the special mech can already change their camo.

So why let that hold up your voting for the "next possible project" PGI could do next?

I'm not sure if you're trying to make a serious point or just being philosophical. Because you know humans don't work like this, right? The main reason most people grinded World of Warcraft for weeks to get an epic mount (i.e. a horse that looks extra cool) instead of a mount was never the slight speed bonus. It was the fact that it looks awesome and makes all the new players gasp and swoon, as you ride past them in Ironforge or whatever. And then you push space to make your horse do a crappy prancing animation, just to give your epeen an extra stroke a you ride past them.

That's how humans work on the internet. We still want to look cool in front of our fellow tribesmen, even if they're strangers on the internet.

What Alistair Winter said, plus I do look at my mechs in the mechlab all the time. For me, I do want my mech to look appeasing (to me at least).

no it was definitely the speed bonus. it was more than a "slight" speed bonus. It was considerable. Like 3 times faster almost.

people wanted epic mounts because it was impossible to escape from pvpers who had epic mounts if you had a normal mount that went one-third the speed.

really? because the mech's appearance is pretty much covered up by the UI. People have been complaining about not being able to see their mechs in the mech lab.

Again... I hardly look at my mechs and certainly dont spend hours staring at my mechs telling them how pretty they are. I dont care what they look like. Aesthetics dont matter at all to me. Only functionality does. Paying MC for aesthetics has always seemed ridiculous to me.

If theyre going to add swappable heads and things like that then they should cost cbills only and be more than just aesthetic and actually have different stats. Like maybe one head gives you an extra module slot. Another head might give you extra sensor range. Etc... Kindve like omnipods except the hardpoints wouldnt change only the stat bonuses.

Home screen.
Paint screen.
Mech select image.
3rd person drone (occasionally just to see it personally).
On death screen (oh no. Look at my beautiful mech! It's all ruined now!).
The knowledge that, when other people see my mech (me) in a match, that (even if I die) I look amazing (as far as I'm concerned).

There are plenty of times you can see your own mech. Often times, it's also a remembrance to other times, such as TT figurines and even imagination. I want my mechs to look cool. I want to like my mech. Then, I want to personalize my mechs so when people see it, and they get to know me, they know that's my mech just by seeing it.

I like the aesthetics of mechs. I tend to pilot mechs that I like the looks of more than mechs I feel are ugly. I'd never own an Atlas (if I wasn't given two of them) because I think they are ugly mechs. But I love my King Crab and Stalker, because I like how they look.

Also, people spend real money on camo colors and patterns. You don't think people would spend money (though I agree some options should be C-bill as well) to personalize their mechs even farther? These cosmetic items are ways to personalize your ride, in an attempt to make yourself stand out from the rest of the players around you. They need to do nothing more than to just look cool (in my opinion of course).

As I stated above (a while back), if they give me the option to have my Crab's claw hands match, I would make them match. I also wouldn't mind seeing one form into a more human hand, to match the images of some of the original art work for the mech. I'd even be willing to spend a little (not a lot) of MCs to make it so.

Yes, I'll pay either C-bills or MC

Basically, this would be your MC option., though I wont deny that the option for MC only probably should be there...

1. I'd like at least some c-bill options.
2. Keep it simple, keep it tasteful - we don't need MLP balloons trailing behind any Battlemechs out on the field, okay? This has a real chance of turning into something trashy and "LegoMech"-y as opposed to being done with true Battletech tastes in mind (Alex has this down pat), so be careful please.
3. I really don't care which mechs or when or whatnot - this is something I'd expect to see as an optional & unexpected tidbit in patch notes, kinda like the geometry updates for many of the older IS 'Mechs.

Hey everyone, let's try and get Russ to talk about customization in the town hall tomorrow!

Also,I completely agree that all options should be lore friendly.

There was a project I was working on a while ago re-imagining the second announced 'Mech of each weight class as if it had been the first and got the more streamlined cockpit as a Founder's pack special geometry...

...and then I realised the fourth was the Commando, and how the heck was I meant to make it more curvy? Something something, skull like the Atlas... eh, sometime later.

I may yet revisit this idea.
