Since I have no clan assaults, if I get a clan assault match can I:
A - use my friend's account for that match to use his mechs
or B - sub in an IS assault mech?

No, to both questions.

You must play with the account you registered with for the tournament.

and

If you do not have a clan assault mech then you would use one of the available trial mechs. No match up will be made where there is no trial mech made available for someone to use in place of owning their own mech for the tournament.

October 10, 2015 from 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM (CDT)

thats a nice relaxed Saturday playing MWO for you guys
for me thats 23:00 Sunday to 14:30 Monday
that is a massive time commitment

A formal detailed schedule will be released once the registration period is closed.

But I am aware of the time constraints of many of the participants. Everyone will know at what times they are dropping well in advance of the tournament [minimum 5 days in advance].

So you will know exactly what time you should get onto MWO so that you are not spending your entire day just sitting around. Also you will know when you are dropping too.

For Asian and Australian players make sure to send me an e-mail stating that you are in that timezone and I will make sure that you are not scheduled at a time where you would normally be sleeping.

I know this will all be a tricky tournament due to the worldwide factor but I promise that it will work out fairly for everyone timezone wise.
