considering there are over 15,000 registered pilots and less then 200 of them participate in CW at any given time. Id say yes CW is dead its a ghost town filled only with foolish pugs and pug farmers.

make a new account, drop into any solo match. do 1 damage or even 0 damage.

check your ranking on the tourny.

bam you can see how many people play this game

its actually around 15,600 ish.

as for CW just look at the factions tab from time to time.

the problem with CW is pretty simple

CW was designed for groups. But there arnt enough groups to sustain CW.

CW cannot sustain itself without pugs. Yet premade vs pugs discourages pugs from playing.

So the solution is to make CW more pug friendly by getting rid of premade vs pugs.

They made some mistakes in the implementation if you ask me. Higher numbers like we had during various events lowered your chances of getting pugstomped, but without a compelling reason to play it over the other modes we never had the numbers any other time... Couple that with people mad over new players on their team, the Quirkening, etc. and it just didn't make sense to play it. There is still no reason to defend/attack a particular planet, aside from their dying fish gasp events. CW was meant to be so much more than deathmatch with respawns....

The flaw was that CW only has 12v12 content. Without smaller (4v4) content, there's no place for PUGs to play and contribute other than as farm fodder for units. This drives smaller groups and PUGs out of CW and gives them no place to grow into those larger groups (basically 7-8+ mans) that want to play CW and can compete in 12v12.

It's almost as if nobody had suggested this was a problem and offered a solution months ago. *points at sig*

I have to agree with Wanderer, CW could have been much different and cater to many people if it would have been designed another way.

I've said it before, let solo pugs keep their Merc or Lonewolf tag and don't force them to choose a side. Give me a general queue in CW that I can have my 4 mechs ready whether it's 4 clanners, 4 IS or a mix of clanner and IS mechs. If I could bring whatever i wanted to battle and that queue just plugged me into an openning on some random world I would play it. I'm sure many other solo guys would play it as well.

Let me run a mixed bag of mechs. I paid for IS and Clan mechs I want to use both in CW. I tried CW and found it lacking, joined a unit, still found it lacking. Why? Because I had to use IS mechs only. If I can have a mixed drop deck I'd be all over CW as a Merc or Lonewolf with a crazy mixed deck.

The only thing that's gonna be dead is you. When I crush you from the cockpit of my Battlemaster, 85 ton powerful assault mech.

Ha Ha Ha.

I see you're back for those addicting Davion field rations, Tasker.

I am so sorry you took that fateful first chicken tender on the road to becoming what you loathed most, snarfing Arby's with abandon as the idea of half-a-dozen hair care products per shower became more and more natural to you.

A beautiful monster you've become.

I am going to take the very optimistic position that CW is not dead, because we do not even have it at present. What we have, IMO, are trial runs of basic design ideas in regard to potential PvP systems for CW. We are missing everything we thought we would have, ergo I am confident the real CW is coming eventually.

Obvious problems pointed out previously here and elsewhere: no meaning to map, no strategy, no logistics, no way for individual players to participate effectively, no leveraging of the BT IP in the CW system, none of the stuff we had in 1992 nor what was planned in MPBT: 3025.

What I believe PGI has figured out is that there is a real need to bring PvE into CW as well as into the game generally, and this will be one key.element that will transform CW by making the participation of solos meaningful. Once this is worked on, the rest of the roleplaying/strategy system will come that will make it meaningful... leading to a gaming system where the users themselves are leveraged as content.

with the NBT-MWO league up and running, PGI should take note to the automation being done over there. These guys, people from the community have created a system that makes MWO CW feel like a universal war is happening.

Logistics, jumpship movements, resources, planetary income, merc contracts, Clans having to cross over hundreds of light years to invade the Inner Sphere, salvage, alliances, betrayals, recons, raids, planetary assaults, and much more. Many things I wish CW had that NBT has managed to put together.

If things do not change for CW, I won't be back. Not anytime soon.

That's a ridiculous idea...why would a company full of professional game designers make a more polished CW than a group of guys doing it for free in their spare time?

I'm just not interested in tower defense games

instead of this CW, i would have liked to see much more variety in regular gameplay other than "meet beneath arc, wait, then shoot enemy team dead"

No.. we already have ghost drops.

:P

Seriously though, Beta 2 is essentially Beta 1, but very little has changed fundamentally. People are waiting for Phase 3 to be implemented, but it's not going to happen until AT LEAST November (was initially promised October-ish).

CW dead? Probably... maybe not. Does anyone care about CW? Not really.

It's one thing to be dead... but it's another to be irrelevant and forgotten.

That is the current state of CW.

CW is dead...

THey should just declare CW DoA and get to working on a halfbaked PVE coop. THey have the basics of the AI in the Academy now.
