It has no space for guns. Clan Mechs live or die by their pod space since you can't actually change their engine/upgrades.
The Ice Ferret is a 45t Mech with 9 tons of pod space and a maximum of 4 Energy hardpoints.
You can put 4 MPL, but then you only have 1 extra heat sink (and Clan MPLs are hot). You can put 4 SPLs, but then you're basically a huge, gimpy Cheetah with no torso weapons. Quad ML is probably the most reasonable loadout you can put on it, but it's generally not worth it when the Cheetah and Stormcrow perform so much better in the same general weight range.
Edit: I guess you can put 3 SSRM4s and a BAP on it, but yeah.. still can't stand up to a Cheetah/Crow and 45t ain't that light.

i disagree
it's not top tier but is not 'terrrible'
it's a very fast medium which can run 5 ml 5 spl or 4 mpl running 142.6 kmh
it's like clan cicada only better
if it had jump jets it could actually be pretty popular imo... right now ach does the same job better than ice ferret

Is the Ice Box that bad?(Ice Ferret...looks like a fridge, thus my nickname.)
I ask because I've seen a few pilots really go nuts in them, and they seem tanky as all get-out. I don't know why, but for some reason lately I've been having a strong urge to try them out.
I'm not expecting them to be super competitive or anything...but are they fun, and at least somewhat effective with an intelligent loadout?
I was going to end this by going back on topic with something...but I forgot what I was going to say...and this thread being about something that's over, I guess it doesn't matter if we derail it...
With the new onmi-pods that the Ice Ferret's got recently it can have a pretty decent srm builds and when you use srms on Ferret it's low pod space stops being a big concern when srms are half the weight of IS. Then with its obscene amount of speed it functions similarly to a commando. But like a commando I don't know if you would want to bring a Ice Ferret to Community Warfare unless you really need the weight savings.

Eh. So at the end of the day it's still basically a bigger, weaker Cheetah. And comparing it to the Crow, which is actually closer to its weight, is just sad.

you shouldn't compare two mech one of which is 35.7 kmh faster than another though
10 tons is a big difference too for mediums

If you want a fast Mech, the cheetah is not only stronger but 2/3 the weight.
If you want a strong Medium, the Crow goes 110kph and is significantly more powerful.
The Ferret is either a Light that costs way too much CW tonnage, or a Medium with no guns. Feel free to pick whichever you like.
If you're sitting at 195 tons and don't know what to do, you're honestly better off taking a Cheetah and being underweight than using a Ferret.

and the only build I was really even considering was something like this- http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a89940c72d187d3
I'm Davion, so obviously this isn't for CW, or anything important, just a for fun thing.

I have 1 Ice Box, ran it with 5 cERML and it is fun. cERML gives range so you do not have to get too close unlike Cheetahs that prefer cSPLs, speed allows positioning. You just have to plan for the lack of ECM and JJs.

Actually I figured this would do better with Streaks.
The problem is the same build, 3 SRMs, works better on the Scat that can also add 2 Lasers to the Ice Box's 1 plus the Scat has ECM, close to the same speed and JJs.
Really, only the all Energy builds are worth using, you can do SRMs but Scats do them better. Not sure about LRMs though cLRMs do dead fire better on big targets.
If anyone is looking at trying a new Clan chassis, I recommend getting one not in a pay-for-pack so if you like it and want to spend real money, you do not get the same variant twice. Example, Ice Boxes, you get the Prime, A and C in the pack so buy a B or D with CB. Do this for any Clan chassis.
Only the Ice Box-Prime lacks the CT Energy slot so it can have 4 Energy, the other 4 can do up to 5.
Never seen an Ice Box use the 1 Ballistic A LA with its generic quirks.

Well, they are to be released for cbills sooner rather than later now, so the nerfhammer was inevitable. we can't have cbill plebs having nice things can we?

I call it the ice feces for a reason. I mastered mine long before they got any quirks, and have never touched them since. My last build was 4 flamers and a narc, lots of ammo and no heat sinks (guess I could put a 5th on now, probably should take the armor off too as it never really served any purpose)...but I used to see if I could get over 100 damage before I overheated and died. It (was) bad, really bad, far and away my lowest k/d mech, lowest damage per game (that's right my mist lynx with no quirks easily out performed it). The shadow cat, that people complains about, averages about 3x the damage per game of the ice feces and has well over 2x the k/d...
If you ever see me in this mech, I am obviously suffering dementia (or someone has a gun to my head) in either case please kill me (even if you're on my team) and put me out of my misery.
Perhaps with quirks now, it might be playable. I certainly have no desire to find out. Whenever I see someone piloting one, I just believe they are exploring their masochistic tendencies. All the other mechs you mentioned are worlds better....

And yet, it was nth mech that was released strong and reduced in power just before cbill release. Why can't it be the other way? Release it a bit on the weak side, and buff as needed. Noone will complain about buffs.

You say that, but there is still the exceptional build of trial mist lynx. seriously, whoever aproved that for battlefield service should be senteced to driving it every day, forever. (yes i know it's lore-correct. whoever designed canon builds for mist lynx was oblivious)
