No it is not. It hasn't been sportsman-like to say "GG" after stomping a team, for a long time. Hence I always just type "GJ team", instead in all chat.

I disagree. I and others still this see as similar to a handshake after a tennis match.

The US Open Tennis 2015 is now on and have yet to see a stomped player slap the victor in the face after being offered a handshake.

Pro-tennis is not MWO. We are not playing live in front of hundreds of live audience and not being broadcasted on TV. People do not have to be told GG if they do not like it after getting stomped on. If the winner wants to say GG for a well done stomp, then they can just say it in team chat.

It's been a while since I have seen "ggclose", although I have seen a few instances of people still going ballistic on a "gg" after being stomped.

In any case ...

I think any kind of ban for such a thing is nothing but excessive. I recommend that people grow thicker skin instead.

And a game moderator issuing one indicates to me that someone on the moderation hierarchy is suffering from a case of too much salt after losing badly too many times.

Totally agree, you cant ban people for being ....well, you know.

I have no issues with a "gg" a match, win or lose, it's "ggclose" that shits me... of course, I'm setting myself up for lots of "ggcloses" by starting this thread, meh, whatever, douches will douche.

You started it, you mature individual, by telling me to grow some balls, pray tell, where did YOU learn your maturity, perhaps you are one of these people that goes in for "offhand ironic jokes?"

Cool story indeed my friend... ;)

"You started it"? Seriously? You got any other comebacks in your arsenal? Maybe, "I know you are but what am I"?
And what's up with those emoticons anyways?

Look, if you have indeed played sports for 38 years now and, hence, you are almost twice my age, I certainly lack the qualifications to help you. You go on doing whatever you were doing and have fun.

He obviously doesn't see the irony, huh?

Do a quick Google search of "Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger handshake". The English Premier League is full of handshake drama.

Sure you can. You can do anything you want to promote a healthier game environment. There are all sorts of fines and suspensions for "unsportsmanlike conduct" in real sports. I fail to see why people think that video games should be exempt from human decency. There is no reason at all why the internet should operate outside of normal bounds of decorum. Anonymity is not carte blanche to be a ****.

Aren't professional sports players supposed to act as role models?

Or do many people prefer someone like Plaxico Burress who shot himself in the thigh while in a nightclub and was subsequently charged for criminal possession of a handgun?

How about someone like Ray Rice? Is he a better role model?

Well, apparently some do. See above.

There is a reason I did not use the English Premier League as an example. Or are you saying that Hooligans is a good thing? ;)

Right there my friend, is where you started it. And I'll use any emoticons i like, its my post. Got any other issues you would like to bring up?

My point about sportsmanship still stands, whether you personally are a douchebag or not, that is up to you.

And yeah 38 years playing competitive sports, and never said "ggclose", not even once. You should see my trophy cabinet, it's pretty impressive. :D

Would "tftg" (thanks for the game) be a more acceptable "digital handshake" then?

In every sport I've ever played, it's considered proper conduct to shake hands and say 'good game' when it's over.

F**k it, let's get some Confucius up in this thread:

"Gentlemen never compete. You will say that in archery they do so. But even then they bow and make way for one another when they are going up to the archery-ground, when they are coming down and at the subsequent drinking bout. Thus even when competing, they still remain gentlemen."

Oh, I know about being a role model, hence I stopped telling the stomped opponents "GG", long time ago. They don't wanna hear it, and it doesn't cost me an arm or a leg to not say "GG", so I don't say it.

Much better response than telling the others to grow some skin.

If people stop doing the proper thing because someone might get offended ...

Just ignore them. Maybe feel some pity - they have no class. You can just imagine what losers they must be in real life. Taunting people with "gg close" is what they'll be drinking on well into their 60s.

"Hey Bob, remember when we spanked those guys 12-0? Man, those were the days"

"Shut up and get those fries out"

Seriously is "gg close" still a thing? the originators of that "word of lowtax" just rage quit the game... the wannabees that took it on "house of lords" disbanded as well...

i see the tags [sexy] using it but that is just villzies and a few clowns... they are persona non grata on this board...

Set your all chat to off and concentrate on team chat...

That's the whole point. It stopped being the proper thing to do in MWO long time ago.

Sigh! My point is that is should not have just to appease the offended.

If you respond with animosity, it flames the fire. If you go "yeahhh, we really got wiped that round, eh?" or something along the lines of being emotionally removed, you usually get a reasonable response back.

You know what the appropriate response to someone being what you consider to be a 'jerk' to you is?

Nothing.

Why would anyone say ggclose or gg? Out of formality or not. It's kinda putting some oil on the flames when you get stomped and someone just says this. I mean i see no use of saying it unless you get a pretty decent match.
