What you describe doesn't happen in game. Typically the stomped team responds with "ggclose" not the stomper.

Exceptions are too rare to bother discussing.

wish this game would start chat banning these people like other games have (any WG game). "gg" and "GGclose" on a landslide win (with one side losing less than half their vehicles) there is considered insult and provocation and can get you chat banned... and i have seen perma- chat bans handed out over it as well.. there were a few RELIC (a well known and powerful clan in WoT) members who still can't use chat to this day because of it. most clans there have a strict "do not communicate to the enemy" rule for good reason. honestly i personally would like to see in match chat restricted to the team you are on only. there is no good reason to speak to the other team inside of a match. anything you would say there is better spoken before or after. during the match, the opposing team is the enemy and they are only worthy of death.

There's a difference between GG Close and just GG on a landslide. The GG close is clearly sarcastic considering the victory conditions, but things can be a GG even if it is a landslide-- and it's still common courtesy, losing or not.

I think the key is that a simple "gg" is a disposable, off the cuff pleasantry traded after a match, exactly like a handshake. No one really cares or thinks too much about it. Throw in a "close" after the gg, however, and then it becomes a mockery, whose sole purpose is to disparage those who lost and diminish their enjoyment of the game for 0 constructive purpose.

GG after a stomp doesn't bother me. It's an empty, whatever statement with no meaning at all. But few matches in this game are ever actually close, due to the tendency for a match to snowball after the early loss of a mech, especially a heavy or assault. Thus, by adding "close", you're just rubbing peoples' faces in their own failure, which is basically the epitome of nonconstructive douchebaggery.

You guys slay me.

You know what the appropriate response to someone being what you consider to be a 'jerk' to you is?

Nothing.

In my opinion, the appropriate response is punching them in the face, but you can't do that over the intertubes :D

Seriously though, think of how polite people would be if there were actual, physical consequences for their bad behavior instead of, well, no consequences of any sort at all.

No it is not. It hasn't been sportsman-like to say "GG" after stomping a team, for a long time. Hence I always just type "GJ team" instead, in all chat after stomping the opposition. Getting stomped is never a good game to the other side. Understanding that fact is one of the steps of becoming a respectful player.

Hey man, I say GG WP on all my games. Stomps included.

What about their precious feefees? That would mean that they can't just get offended by whatever and have the whole world cater to their tastes and ban those who think differently. Doesn't sound right at all.

Maybe so, I just needed a vent. None of these clowns could hack it on my turf anyway, and it ain't gonna happen, it's still sad to see sportsmanship dying anywhere.

there's people out there that have no life, no "IRL WIns" to lean on, so they need to cling to being the best of one of the weakest comp fields of any online game.

Realize that being the bestest mechwarrior truly is the high point of their lives, and suddenly, a "GGClose" gives you the giggle...because you realize how pathetic their lives must really be.

I play video games for fun, when I have nothing better to do. If you ain't playing for money, you ain't a Pro, so acting like it matters is a pretty big laugh.

Yeah...but at least they seem to flop a bit less than a lot of leagues (a bit) and the announcers are not near as obnoxious as the ones in Mexico, where each has to see if he can outlast the other announcers yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL! As long as possible.

Oy bloody vey.

eh, I always extended a GG, until the butthurt cupstacker participation award crybabies started whinging on the forums, so now, I usually just toss a "<o" out. If they wanna get butthurt about that, they can go stuff themselves.

Fight the power, Bishop! people at the match start who say, "Don't use GG at the end of the match, it's offensive to the losing team" will spread if we you don't use GG more often!

I GGClose when I personally stuff certain former LORDs, etc who prominently liked to say it. Or certain other Comptards who seem to be a lot less competent in Solo drops then with 11 other folks focus firing with them.

Most of them seem to be gone now, though, so don't get to rub salt into the wounds as much anymore.

But LORD Bishop say GGClose! (man that would piss some of the man children off, lol)

A good push, good use of communications (sometimes the opposite says they did it with success), a succesful flank etc.

Frankly had a match when i took the lead and stomped the other team. Justified stomp.

Rather then everyone looking at each other not sharing information, communicate or just go around headless chickens and then get curbstomped.

Sure you can. You can do anything you want to promote a healthier game environment. There are all sorts of fines and suspensions for "unsportsmanlike conduct" in real sports. I fail to see why people think that video games should be exempt from human decency. There is no reason at all why the internet should operate outside of normal bounds of decorum. Anonymity is not carte blanche to be a ****.
I wish I could like this more than once. People should be glad its not up to me. A lack of sportsmanship shows a lack of character.

"Get a thicker skin" is never a good response. People should strive to be better people in the first place.

As to "gg" after a game, that's more complex. I prefer it in the sense of a handshake, but i get people have become accustomed to others being ******** and assume it's meant sarcastically.

As a result, while my instinctive response is to GG regardless, I try to not in the case of a stomp.

No GG = no skill

If you can't handle somebody saying "hey thanks for the game" in 2-letter form, get the hell of of your computer and reevaluate why you precious little ego can't handle social interaction when you lose

Grow up

Oh, I know about being a role model, hence I stopped telling the stomped opponents "GG", long time ago. They don't wanna hear it, and it doesn't cost me an arm or a leg to not say "GG", so I don't say it.

Much better response than telling the others to grow some skin.

This is why I save "gg" for close drops, where it was hard fought on both sides where the score is something like 12-9 or 12-11. It means something then.

Totally agree, however, there is a big difference in meaning between "gg" and "ggclose", especially after a stomp.

The first is an internet handshake to the victor or loser, the second is a sarcastic attempt to slag people off, at least in my opinion.

Ok guys, we get it, you wiped the floor with us.

At what point did you think we needed to be reminded of it?

When I was growing up, playing a variety of outdoor sports, we were encouraged to be sportsmanlike, no matter how badly we won or lost. It seems as though the anonymity of the internet encourages the people who normally in a face to face confrontation would behave themselves, to let their true nature run wild.

To all of these people, I say grow the **** up. Being good at a video game, even though most of the people that do this are'nt very good, they just hang off the coattails of those that are, does not make you a superior human being. I get rekt by Proton, Heim, Juju, Twinky, etc., ...None of these guys usually feel the need to be tools about wrecking us, it's you wannabe's that are the big talkers, and it';s you guys with the inferiority complexes that seem to feel the need to do this crap.

I'm an average MWO player, and don't have a problem with that, however, in my day, I was a very. very, useful cricketer, and I'm still a player to be feared on an 8 ball table, when I win, I shake my opponents hand, and say well played, or bad luck, it's called being a sportsman.

So to all you mental midgets that do the whole ggclose thing, grow the hell up, and stop overcompensating for your small penises, noone really ****** cares...Oh,m and learning some manners would'nt be a bad start either.

*flame shield activated*

And yeah, I know, they arent gonna listen, and they dont care about my opinion on their juvenile trolling, but at least I've had my say... :P
