Someone mentioned in a thread that Russ stated in the town hall that this was a feature to raise TTK. Not sure if the guy posting was serious or not though haha.

Yes, the new minimap are currently more difficult to use in close range to manuever into exactly the right place to catch or avoid an enemy, but this was likely intended as information warfare can become more important now.

That's NOT the issue at all. It no longer turns with you so it's completely disorienting -and the symbols are so small you can't tell the difference between an Assault and a Light unless you full screen the minimap and only an idiot would do that in the middle of a fight.

only had to play one game to know the mini map change is worse than it was before , all they had to do was change the text color of the co-ordinates , but instead they made the detail worse , direction worse , direction players are facing is worse , to fit the entire map in the mini map takes out all the important detail needed ... what a waste of time

WTF is this? my brain is so wired into that map and where my feet are pointing i actually get some sort of travel sickness feeling from what you did PGI

It's not something that is going to change either... animals are hard wired to the perspective the old minimap showed. That's feeling of disorientation is actually normal. Can't believe they don't have a person on staff to quash ideas like this...

PGI patched up their UI a few times. Most of the rage sounded general, but it was about certain aspects that was improved quite quickly. Also, a lot of the rage was for the "column" layout that is and was terrible (it was forced on people with small monitors at first, now nobody has to use it and I bet almost nobody uses).

Also, some people freak out, some criticize in a cultural manner.

If it is to push people into using voip and staying grouped then it works in a way......otherwise if looking to set up a crossfire on the new map your stuck.
Eyes forward, shoot things!!
Option to toggle between the old and new mini map would be cool but maybe the zoom will sort it.

The need to stay grouped is in a large part forced because everyone have so good automatic SA. If you're alone, the enemy will quickly find out that you are alone and push you and kill you. When that SA is taken away, interesting gameplay can happen where a spread out team with good (non automatic) SA and some crossfire might be better than a death ball.

PGI, you probably knew the whiners would start when you took their minimap toy away, but you made the change anyway, that took guts and I think it's for the best in the long run.

It's not even whining. It's a half-completed, poorly scaled map system that removes useful information from the cockpit view and fails to replace it, while presenting it's new information in a format no pilot would sanely be able to read easily while playing. Oh, and it ganks seismic module use too. Despite adding new options, it takes far more away from the operation of a 'Mech than it adds.

It's a War on Information, not Information Warfare.

To those complaining, sorry but MW4:Mercs u could toggle the mini-map to what it does now. Its not new and if u didnt play the previous installment and support the franchise, then maybe u should've considered ur ignorance first

And people could buy cars with stick shifts still but they'd be gimping themselves on the road versus cars with fast shifting sport autos.

Ferrari and Lamborghini don't even sell manual transmissions anymore...true story.

Well you couldn't see the difference between assault and light before either. It's more a tactical think I think to see where to go and attack or defend, not so much what you look at while in the fight.

I'm playing like for 2 month right now and about to reach tier 2. How many times have I seen someone trying to command? Literally 0. Because it's far more effective to try hard fighting instead of trying to control people who won't listen to you anyway. So I really don't care about any kind of new commanding features. But this minimap..,. Damn, like in absolutely every battle I find myself confused with my curent leg/torso positioning because I really get used to that grey cone on minimap. And just no words about it's usability... Tried to look at it only when I needed to figure out overall positioning aaand understood that I'd rather not to look at it at all...

Well, at least this made me realize just how much I used the mini map before this patch. Now I have lost the info that it gave so I'm running around half the battle trying just to understand my and my team's situation. I can't stop and study the mini map so I run around and do it myself in the mech. Yeah, that's fun.

This is a step away from FPS and towards simulation. That's nice. I wouldn't mind a slower game that felt more tactical and less twitchy. I probably would enjoy that more. But since the rest of the game didn't slow down any, I don't have time for the info it is trying to give me. If I look at the mini map for more than a second then many, many bad things can and will happen.

Oh, and TTK may go down, but stomps, particularly in PUGS, will just happen that much more frequently. Information is key in this game and this map is serving up non-elite players on a platter.

Yeah I am so use to the movement, that I actually felt sickness playing it. Like a weird case of virtigo, due to the correlation of where my feet are in relation. I'm look through a box, without any sense of direction, or even where I am facing.
