FYI: They are the "Shadowrun people". Harebrained Schemes will be making this new BattleTech game, and they've successfully made Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong in the last three years.
Why? Because HBS is Jordan Weismann's company, and he (co-)created both Shadowrun and BattleTech.
They've also made them exactly like they plan to do the BattleTech game; use Kickstarter to make it a better game, essentially putting in more and more things as they get more backers.
They've said that possible stretch goals include multiplayer game modes.

To be fair, there are enough RTS games, where you can't even build units (or where building units is far less important), like Sudden Strike, the Total War series, etc.
Also DoW 2, Wargame, CoH, all have some base/unit building but numbers are not that important.

At any rate I'm not worried bout the track record of HBS, I got to sit Front Row when Jordan and FASA told me that BT was going to Fanpro, the time line was jumping ahead, and to buy clickytech. It's more of personal trust issue
Still have the shirt from that Gencon too.
This may turn out to be a Fantastic game, one that I've been wanting for many a year, But I just don't see me supporting it kickstarter wise.

The lesson is, dont be afraid to invest into games that you like; you never know what they can do.

I'm not defending anyone, here, but I will tell all of you that I was horribly skeptical about BattleTech, also, until Mr. Gitelman decided I was important enough to spend some time on the phone with, much to my great pleasure and honor, and I was assured this game will be the things I've been wanting in a game for a long time, including mercenary unit management, contracting, eventually to have an open-ended mercenary campaign to play out on 2,021 worlds, in the beginning time period of the universe I grew up on. I don't think I could ask for more than that, so I'm on-board.
If you're skeptical, though, let me just say that I sympathize. From the time-period of MechWarrior III: Pirate's Moon, until now, but not including MechCommander or MegaMek or MekTek's version of MechWarrior IV: Mercenaries, we have all been told by various groups, whether under license or doing the game for free, that we were going to see the truest rendition of what BattleTech was supposed to be like, including from PGI. I threw my money into Founder's both here and at MechWarrior: Tactics and found myself duped time-after-time. Tactics is gone, a victim of its own disjointed mismanagement, and MechWarrior Online should be toward the end of recovering itself from the debacle that was it's alignment with IGP, and things are beginning to turn around (PSR and the new 'Mech balancing at the forefront of that), and we've been told about a lot of positive and good changes coming down the pipe for MWO. Look, this is coming from a guy who has been screaming and yelling at PGI for the past three years, trying to hold their feet to the fire, so you can trust that word... it is all documented.
I have been in this community, both supporter and condemner, for over thirty years, now; trust me in this, if you don't trust Kickstarter, HBS, or PGI.

I doubt something like that will happen. If you read some of the previous posts some said they preferred

Here's what Kickstarter says their 5% is going towards:
Quote
[...]
Half of Kickstarter’s 5% pledge will be devoted to arts and music programs for children and young adults, with a primary focus on underserved communities in New York City. Funds will be distributed to 501(c)(3) organizations, public schools, or via programs developed by Kickstarter.
[...]
Half of Kickstarter’s 5% pledge will be devoted to organizations addressing systemic inequality. Kickstarter will primarily focus such contributions on 501(c)(3) organizations fighting to end prejudices against and increase opportunities for people of color, women, and LGBTQ individuals.
"Freedom of religion" is all too often used as "freedom" to keep being prejudiced, to keep inequalities and social injustice, and to keep other people down.
If your religion is opposed to any of the goals above, it is not worth its freedom and you should be ashamed to be a follower of it.

That's easy.
It's probably LCT-1E with arm-mounted medium lasers. Those Small lasers are so small that you can't see them.

In BattleTech, most lasers have barrels. In fact, I think MWO might be the first game set in the universe that seems to think "smaller is better" when it comes to guns.
Which of course is one of the ridiculous things with this game (and studio...). There's zero need to neuter every laser into just a lens; shrink every AC and PPC barrel into nothingness. Ever heard of barrel shrouds? Cowlings to protect the barrel? Armouring so it can be used to batter an opponent over the head, or just take a shot without being destroyed?

Lol I think you are a comedian..
..it is going to be completely different to MWO, so unless everyone who currently plays real time MWO, really want to be playing turn based MWO.. ..this game will in no way spell the end of MWO. That and potential use of PGI artwork/models in game, if anything, provides a benefit to MWO.
All this will do is growing the Battletech universe, which will trickle down into subsequent interest in MWO.
Synergy.
Edit: And in regards to Tactics, that was just sheer tripe, like a mutant hybrid of transformers, gundam and mwo.. ..with this kickstarter we have the guys that ARE Battletech. Pretty strong lead.
