And unless you're a stockholder, you have no status, and neither do I. (And I have some proveable claims) yet I am not taliking down to people.

It is exactly the attitude. Not the actual status. Or any claimed status. People will stop posting if they're being made fun of. (note the tagline again, or do I have to repost it?) It's not OUR position to tell noob people or ANY people, (who are our equals), what to say or ask... I fought for that right, I don't know where you live... but I gotta say something. I still limp, because of that right, for 40 years now...

They have a right to ask why is the moon blue on sirius, because they have the right. Not the right to get an answer. Just the right to ask, without the tagline...

So maybe when they do have a question - we all want to know, they wont be afraid to ask it... That's all this thread was about...

John

I actually kind of like his tagline, it is very helpful and it is all in perception, Typically if you look through, one person will post hey use the search function, one to two posts later, a well meaning forum member will have done it and posted a link, typically then that post ends because it is redundant. Or it grows as more members see it and comment.

I do agree
but , those that come and say hey use the search function, yes they come across as trolls but they are also correct. Right now there are two posts for the same thing in General discussion forum asking us what we do not want to see in MWO. For many reasons this can be problematic, If it were one post that would be great everything would be grand now we have to worry about which we already posted in, do I need to repost what I already posted in the other one so everyone can read it. Many things like that. Also those with the answers do not want to keep repeating themselves, which is also proper forum etiquette. For new and old alike, why would they answer the new person when they have already answered three other people in the last two weeks about the same exact thing. Or even better it is answered in one of the two NEW PEOPLE START HERE PLEASE posts. CTRL + F is also a new favorite tool of mine.

An interesting factor about this particular forum is that whether the question has been asked before many times or whether there are several 'suggestions' to use the search button, someone will answer the question. Why is this I wonder? Having just done a search for some information and scanned several different forums about the subject i was looking for information on, I found a similar method on all of those forums. After a short time of so many people ignoring the original question and blurbing on about absolutely nothing related to the original question, it ended up with the questioner, in capitals, saying "Answer the question stupid".
Does this forum, I wonder, contain so many older people, like me, who have been holding on for so many years waiting for MWO to actually become active? Or is it that MWO is attracting a more polite type of person? Answers on a post card please.

Is that an implication that older people are less polite? But anyhow, going by old polls, the people on the MWO forums seem to have an average age of 25-45, and tend to have a college education on average. Most started playing from MW2, though there are some later or earlier. The favourite MechWarrior game of all time is tied between MW2 and MW3. Tabletop and MW gamers disagree on enough counts that comparing the two is considered inadvisable by the devs, due to high flamebait risk.

I'll answer on a post card only if you pay for the card and postage. Budget is limited, and it's difficult to afford cake.

@OP: You know, it's just a question of politeness. There are people on this forums who spend a lot of time doing research about different things and answering questions in productive and informing ways. And then comes someone supposedly like you (regarding your OP), demanding everyone to cater only to him, not even taking the 10 seconds it takes to use the search or look at least over the first 2 or 3 pages of newest posts on a given forum and asks the same old question again. Why should someone take the time to answer the question again (or to search for the previously given answer) if you are just too lazy to spend a few seconds on searching? If there are people who invest time in answering questions, it's just a matter of decency to spend at least a minimum of time searching for their answers.

So much for the social side of it. Apart from this there's also a plain technical side. You're spamming the board with 100s of topics on the same questions again and again. No wonder the search will take a bit of time when there are a dozen threads on a topic.
To top this, you're making the forums harder to navigate for everyone since there are so many useless topics opened all the time that one has to actively search for new and interesting content by skimming through all the redundant questions. Also the really important threads get pushed ever farther back from the first pages and are only read by the people who already know about them.

If it's a question that you've seen and grown tired of, just DON'T add your .02. Don't even click on it, how hard is that?

If you see a post telling you to use the search bar, which you've seen and grown tired of(although obviously you haven't grown tired of actually using the search bar), just DON'T respond to it. Don't even look at it, how hard is that?

Oh, it's not your position to tell people what to say? So your original post was just an ironic joke, then? Or, to put it more accurately, a troll post? Because all it does is tell people how to behave.

First: nobody here has "rights." This is a privately owned website. You only have privileges and allowances. Be grateful that the Devs have taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to forum implementation, and that the local Mods seem to be pretty easygoing as well. But do not think you, or anyone else, has "rights." This isn't a democracy.

Second: They have the... "right"... to ask. But they do not have the "right" to also demand only certain responses. And neither do you. If you ask a question, your control over the discussion ends with your own input. You can not, and will never be able to, decide how people respond to you. YOUR only decision is in what YOU say. Period. If you ask a question that you know will get snarky responses, take that as a sign that you should probably either ask a different question, ask in a different manner, or not ask at all and instead take a moment to look around you, instead of demanding that people provide you with information because you don't feel like finding it for yourself. You don't get any special entitlements, buddy. Sure, ask away. Ask if we'll be able to pilot a Timber Wolf at launch. Just don't be surprised when people respond negatively to you. Complain about it if you like, but tough titty. It won't change a thing. You cannot choose other people's words for them.

So if you make a statement, that you KNOW will make people angry, and then you make it anyway, do you know what that makes you? That's pretty much the definition of a troll. Someone that intentionally incites conflict among others. You may not do it out of malintent, but the fact you'll do it out of laziness is no better. And the fact you are willing to make such a statement, despite knowing what its effects will be, simply because you have the "right"(when what you actually have is the privilege of punishment being highly unlikely), and not only that but then actually complain when those effects take place? That makes you lazy, because you want other people to do your research for you, and it also makes you someone with a sense of entitlement, because you get upset if they don't cow to your desires. And you're not going to find a whole lot of people around you that share your belief in how much you deserve, anywhere in life.

Cheers.

And I'm reposting this gentleman's comments for you, just in case you found any of the above to be a bit too "real talk" for you to handle without throwing another hissy fit:

There are no unasked questions here. The search could tell you that. Nice troll bait post, landed me first! Go you! I'm just playing my part in this scripted play proudly produced by the OP... curtains please!

That was an emotional performance Johnson, the dialogue was well written and versed, the story itself could use some work, and there wasn't enough ' things but well done sir *claps*

I have no problem with questions being asked multiple times, what gets under my skin is when said questions are based on pure speculation from a completely different game. A vast majority of the time those questions have "official" responces to them. It would be much easier for the OP if they were quoted when answering so they could be in accordance with prophecy.

Hello, been reading down to here and have heard you sling the word "right" around. There are NO rights here
its a privilege as quoted from a post you should have already read (but doubt you did)

"Keep in mind that being able to post here is a privilege, not a right."
http://mwomercs.com/...ting-etiquette/

You may have have fought for the 1st amendment (alot of people have)but its doesnt apply here.

edit: looks like Bloodweaver put it up sooner and much more eloquently than I.......
