Will the Clans ever be an option?

IIRC the page says they plan to add them later if the option becomes available, just not in the first game release.

I imagine it depends heavily on the amount of funding they get. I know it is a possibility for them down the road, but like I said in my post it is hard to say what they will do with the game over time without knowing the end results of the crowd funding. I am just hoping for the most robust experience possible.

And likely as an optional Expansion pack, not to interfere with the exclusively 3025 tech campaign which some people want.

Yeah, but we need people to help achieve the stretch goals and you'd get more stuff now than you will once the game launches, since the backer packs give you extra stuff.

Unfortunately it's mostly stuff i have zero use for.

Coat
hat
flag
novella

Nope. Not interested in "fru-fru" like that. I'd be more inclined if they offered extra in game goodies.

... Is exactly, why I am interested. Never mind the fact that hard merchandise for Battletech/Mechwarrior has not been available for decades, but yea what do I know?

I still see hot topic kids wearing Nightmare Before Christmas stuff, and I'm pretty sure they've never seen the movie. Never mind that was back when people were on the verge of suing the **** outta Tim Burton for disturbing their kids.

I'm still trying to figure out how they say there hasn't been tactical turn based BT game on PC in 20 years when just a couple years ago there was MW Tactics. Pretty sure that was a tactical turn based BT game, was it not?

It never got out of closed beta, and due to management failed miserably.

IGP strikes again.

But check this out...

I was looking at the jacket on the KS site and I was staring at the Atlas head there. Then I remembered that HBS said the game will be done in the Unity 5 engine, so I went over to Wikipedia to read up on Unity 5, and found out, MW:Tactics used Unity 5. Then i was reading MW:T's wikipedia page, to see if any new information came out about that debacle, and Wikipedia noted that MW:T had been bought by parties unknown.

Could that unknown party be HBS?

I think any rational person already figured that out. Why else would the standard skirmish game at $250k be already developer filled.

Unity Web Engine != Unity 5

Unity 5 itself wasn't released (for free?) until this year.

Also very different games. This one won't use Hexes like MWT, nor use the same models, different levelling system and no microtransactions.

It's unlikely, to say the least. Construction/mech customization is also looking very different.

Sold! You'll be one of my Mechwarriors. I wish I could throw that much in, but I'm not that wealthy at the moment.

Except the concept art looks suspiciously similar to MW:T actual in game did.
Just because they change how MW:T functions to take it away from a F2P style doesn't mean the underlying code base isn't one and the same, it would be a smart move imo.

Are you sure? All concept art I've seen is MWO based designs.

I can't see it using the same code base. There are significant changes to be made.

And that is exactly the right way to do it. Start with basic 3025 tech and when that is balanced and working, add new tech as an expansion (while still providing the option to go pure 3025).
Not like PGI - not even getting 3025 balanced right and then releasing clan tech to an already unbalanced game, without the option to only play tech level 1.

Yeah, that's why I'm hesitant as well about it.

a dream come true for me if you understand... :)

While all that is true, buying out the MW:T license would make sense. 1) it would be cheap and 2) it prevents some other 3rd party from buying up the license and making something of it to compete with BATTLETECH.

I really hope this project won't be hampered by having to wait on PGI to produce 'mechs, same goes for any expansion we might see because there's no way they'll keep up with HBS's pace. Needs so many more 'mechs added to the roster to help make it feel alive, but I'd bet they'd be willing to go for it if we generate enough funds. That and co-op are my top two priorities.

As for MW:T, it bounced around 3 different developers and HBS said they've only done 3 months of pre-production...I highly doubt they bought and are using anything from MW:T. Not the right way to start off a new project especially since MW:T sucked.

Need to get people to share those announcements...15k backers but hardly any backer missions for sharing done?

Ok, thanks for the info....

So would you say they are the "larian Studios" of the battle tech world?

It's hard to compare studios like that, really, but I suppose one could say that inasmuch as both have successfully put out critically acclaimed games which were funded through Kickstarter. I do believe HBS is the right choice to do a Battletech game justice though thanks to the way they treated the other FASA property Jordan Weisman helped create back in the FASA days, Shadowrun.
