So, with the smashing success of this Kickstarter, what plans does PGI have to take advantage of the obvious popularity of the 3025 era?

That will be funded. To get full tier 4 rewards is $2,500,000.
Ultimately this is good for the series as a whole. People who played HBS's Shadowrun games will likely consider giving this new game a try and many of them have likely not played Battletech before. People who played X-Com may give it a try and enjoy it and stick with the series. More people playing/enjoying the series means more people may give MWO a try and that is an instant win for PGI.

they'll reach 250.000$ in a couple of minutes from now.
OP, why do you think it's the fact that it's set in 3025 that it's popular?
I'd much rather believe it's the background (shadowrun) and the promising campain and merc outfit mechanics which brings people to back the game so easily.

There are a fairly vocal group of fans on the MWO forum alone that love 3025 the best of all and anything that comes after less and less.
Heck, theres even people that run stock mechs and half of them are less than appealing.

I backed it in large part because of the time period. Other backer's motives may vary. But a quarter million bucks in an hour suggests that the choice of time period is popular.

Regarding the time period, not much.
However, increased popularity of the genre will see increased popularity and member enrollment in both games.

One is a shooter the other is turn based.
One is F2P the other is P2P

Although as at least one other is thinking, adding some new 'Mechs from the 3025 era would be nice.

So untrue. Very very pulse pounding in XCOM watching your carefully moved Sniper get spotted by a patrol and Killed outright after you spend so long getting him or her to Colonel and all the best goodies.

This. It seems that PGI is sharing some artwork. People will want to see where that artwork originated which will generate more traffic here.
With the sharing of artwork, I got to wonder if there isn't some sort of merger or deeper collaboration (deeper than HBS simply licensing PGI's art). NOTE: This is JUST mild speculation on my part and I am in no way an informed party.

They are going to take the money from HBG's use of art assets to fund Transverse themselves?

I would like to think they learned from that debacle....
NOW, how about applying MWO into more of an interactive B-Tech universe? I wouldn't buy Transverse. I would buy Aerotech.
