I remember those early days. The difference between now and then just on the forums was HUGE. I feel like the collective intelligence of the posters back then was at least 1000 fold what it is now. It was like a team of a highly efficient scientists having a bit of fun now and then but doing serious forum business most of the time.

You know it. I remember a huge post someone made explaining how it was more efficient to have X number of PPCs rather than Y number of PPCs due to the heat pool, rate of fire of the PPC and the heat dissipation rate, once the saved tonnage was placed into more heat sinks. It seemed counter intuitive until you looked at the chart he placed in the post and saw the difference in black and white. That post must have been pages in MS Word, but he was trying to point out how the weapon load outs would eventually turn to massive front loaded pin point alpha strikes.

Back in Closed Beta you had huge posts that made compelling cases for how multiple core game mechanics were linked together in a giant, unbalanced chain that needed change. Now the posts are more along the lines of a one paragraph rant with titles like, "LRMs suck". I think that is a natural progression, though, because those former post writers are either long gone or don't care enough anymore to spend the necessary time it takes to craft something that will evidently fall on deaf ears.

I have a feeling that they broke it somewhere along the way.

Then again part of the reason why TTK was even longer was because hitreg was even worse in most cases without HSR. Remember the completely lagshielded mechs? Where even the Jenner was "broken"?

And you had the SRM busters being called OP due to magnified damage. Remember splatcats? And CT-seeking streaks. And several LRMageddons. And the poptart meta later on.

Granted, the graphics were better for a while, but let's not get too rosy-eyed about the past, eh?

Is it just me or does it seem like TTK was real long in the video?

The game was way better in 2012.

Not really - the only imbalance was caused by forcing Trial Mechs for Newbs and the group queue

Even if they did not, you cant even count the good CryEngine games on your fingers.

Only thing I really miss (Been playing since that era) watching those videos is the glowing Atlas eyes.

Otherwise I'll take our current game. So many cringe worthy moments/memories watching those videos.

I wouldn't mind a 8v8 stock mech mode though! That could be cool.

Yeah... it was better. Bring back the cockpit shake too, missiles and ballistics have to shake the hell out of your mech...

Sadly it appears that the WHINERS won more battles than was first thought. LOL!

We should have had Trial/Stock Mechs only battles since at least 2012.

Now I would suggest to have Trial/Stock Mechs for IS and Clan seperately. Only problem with that, it might split the small playerbase even more. It would have been great though if we would have had those before DHS and Clans.
We might have actually had a much larger playerbase now, because we wouldn't have scared as many newbs away as we did.

Let me guys get my Delorean. Soon you will all have always loved this game runing on the Unreal Engine (with fully destructible environment)! :D

Couldn't they make a separate client of the game for people with better toasters?

I'm not gonna lie. That looks really ******* beautiful. Like someone else said. That's like a movie and we're stuck at public access television.

And no DHS.

You couldn't even fire 4 MLs together, or at least not 3 times in a row. And those were the backup weapons. Just look at the hunchies in the vid, they struggle with some ML and 2x LRM10.

Yeah, heat management was a thing back then and TTK was really long and good. It was hard to kill an Atlas. That was an achievement - and if two or three Atlas come around a corner you were more or less screwed.

everything was better in the past, even the future....

And then PGI got feedback from casual players that they didn't want a game where everyone just stomped around looking at each other instead of shooting.

Am I the only one who noticed this?

8-1 L
8-2 L
8-0 L
5-0 L
8-2 L
2-0 L

This was your MM back then. Though seeing collisions did tug at some heart strings. Still the biggest thing this game lost.

What are you talking about? CB had about triple the fog and in my opinion it looked amazing. We have nothing compared to this now, did you even watch the video to remind yourself of what it used to look like?

I almost want to quit now, knowing how much better the game was before I started playing. Graphics I can deal with, but the gameplay back then looks far more to my taste. This big alpha clan bollocks is tiring.

I was in closed beta and I don't remember there being better graphics, and I happen to like game play today except we need more content. I have no nostalgia of the old days of closed beta. The game is vastly superior to what it was back then overall.

The game was made too look way worse because

1) they couldn't optimize anything

2) toaster pc's

3) they couldn't optimize anything

I bought a new gaming PC and built it with all top end specs. It still struggles to consistently run above 60 FPS

Just spectated a Stromcrow player in my team. His FPS must have been 2-3, cause things were warping all the time and he could not hit anything. Why the eff are people playing MWO on toasters and screwing over their teammates? Go play MW4 or something if one needs his MW fix.
I personally waited months after the CB opening, just so I could buy a good rig to play MWO.

A high ping will also screw you up that way to. My rig get probably 35 FPS average, but my ping is unstable so I get a lot of warping.

Also if I want to spend my money and play the game on a toaster, I should be able to. Maybe not with very good FPS, but I should be able to play.
