Dennis (Art Lead) On Custom Mech Hangers & Hud.

I voted: geo > hangar > hud. But this is the customization roadmap i'd really like:
Hud colours ( since this one should be easy according to Dennis )
Geo ( Atlas glowing eyes beat anything else )
Hangar ( close to the geo, but... )
Hud elements customization ( If the hud requires too much work, i'd rather put that work into other projects )

I think it'd even be a little silly. I mean, battlemechs are supposed to be these treasured, hallowed artifacts from a long-gone golden era. But here's Tier 5 Mechwarrior Joe, with a hundred lined up, just in case he feels like piloting something else today? Maybe just show one mech Anything else to give immersion to the hangar view would be cool though, be it faction banners, unit logos, techs working on the mech or whatever.

None of this is going to change the game, make it more fun or interesting, its money wasted.
Work on making the game balanced, and making CW enjoyable that is all that matters, in the development of this game, other than mechs to fund it, and the odd new map to make the game feel slightly less jaded.
A mech bay you can hang fluffy dice from the ceiling is not going to make this game last longer, because it has no effect on the core game, and won't make people stay longer.

While I agree that game balance, etc is important. I hope you understand the Art team isn't responsible for balance and CW. These are the people who make mechs, maps and things of that nature.
Another thing is if Pgi can expand there sources of income (ppl paying for custom geometry, hangars, HUD) then they will have more resources to put into other aspects of the game.

Custom Hangars and HUDs will only be worth something if other players can view it in-game. It should come with options that let your friends (or other players) view your hangars and an option to let them look in the cockpit at your cockpit items.
They might want to go the Dota 2 route as well and allow you to share Custom HUDs with friends or teammates.
Point is: Bling is not as Bling if only you can see it. People buy this crap to show off to others.

A good point. I do know a fair number of ppl would enjoy it for themselves.
Being able to share custom HUD is a great idea. You should put it in the custom HUD thread.

I thougth the art guys didn't work directly on maps, just the already made assets for maps. I'm worried that customization may affect directly the map production rate, specially with vitric forge being the last added map ( the new FC, RC and CV are excelent, but didn't increase the map count, since the old maps were removed from rotation ).

Have you ever watched your FPS when you turn it off..... it SKYROCKETS.
And the game looks better with it off....
And it would look even better if they put the info onto the mechs cockpit screens...
Will I pay for mech packs? No.
Will I pay for actual improvements to the game? Yes.
Oh noes, my wallet stays full.

In general, it is time to slow down mech releases, and step up, big time, on customization.

Virtric was the last new map because they've been focusing on fixing up older maps.
I wouldn't be too worried. Pgi's art team is the biggest department for them. For example, they redid Caustic while working on the Marauder, Warhammer & the iiC pack. Since most customization is a source of income, they'd probably be able to put out more maps with less focus on mech packs.

Haha, because I'm just a poor desperate mech lover. I want this game to stick around for awhile, so I do the little that I can.
cool beans... anyway... talking about HUD... there is just a little work needed for it to be fully compatible in stereoscopic 3D... the enemy red box needs work.

I can tell what movies and books you like. All action and shooting, no story or atmosphere or setting. Nothing beyond a shoot em up? Characters or actors in a movie? Who needs that, just random people shooting wildly into the air? Reason to be shooting? All fluff?
There is 100+ games that are all blue vrs red tdm. All shooting and nothing else. Any reason to make Mechwarrior Online like that also?

I like it for the art and the lore. Put the technicianss in the hangar for a sense of scale and immersion. It helps sell the illusion of size for when we're in the cockpit.

You want customization....push for a skill tree we can actually use to pick our own quirks.

I am going to put this reply on a hot key since it seems to be required. The comments for making this game a generic blue vrs red tdm seem to be on hot key. The games themselves being made which are blue vrs red tdm seem to be auto generated as well.

Things that don't have purpose toward gameplay are not needed. I am a gamer. I want game play...not cut scenes, not pointless hangars that I can look at once that no one else can see anyway, No pointless walls of text telling me about some fairy tale BT universe I won't read anyhow. Can you tell I give no Fs about BT lore?
I can watch movies but I want to play my games, I want a robust economy that matters in CW. I want contracts or bounties to fulfill. I want an actual skilltree. I want a lot of thing from this game that PGI cannot deliver but I sure as heck don't want them wasting resources on pointless aspects.

I suppose you want Pgi to stay reliant on mech packs for income?
Customization may not be something you want but many of us do want it and are willing to pay for it which supports what you want.
Our desires don't need to be mutually exclusive. I do like your customizable skill tree idea. I'd support it.
