I think it's fair to assume that most everyone is at least a little worn out on mech packs. We've gotten to a point where new and different mechs are hard to come by. Sadly, Pgi has been quite dependent on mech packs for serious income for long while now.

With that in mind, what alternatives would you like to see Pgi offer instead of mech packs?

I have two options I'd like.

1st. PvE campaign Co-op/Solo
I like mechwarrior games, I would like to play them in a single player setting. I enjoy the story and being immersed in it. I love playing with my friends but I'd also like to capture the story/immersion part of the experience.

Assuming a successful Steam launch, It'd be a good thing to get sometime after that so as to not murder the ques.

2nd. Customization, Custom geometry, Decals, Custom Mech Hangers, Custom HUD, Sound/Music packs, etc.

I'd like PvE, Custom geo & Decals the most. Everything else would be tasty gravy.

Also, check out Elizander's idea.

Subscription thread & poll.

These are what I'd like to see, perhaps some of you could come up with more ideas.

New and different mechs are not hard to come by. There are plenty of Unseen mechs and timeline Clan Battlemechs and omnimechs, on top of IS mechs left over.

As for more offerings, I am a man of modesty--I just want them to improve the damn LBX series. Nothing hard to accomplish, right? <_<

Sure there are mechs that offer nostalgia but right now there are tons of different mechs. With the upcoming unseen packs, we'll be even more saturated.

Mechs aren't the point, whatever your opinions are. What alternative money making things would you like Pgi to offer?

Funding sources I'd be ok with:

1) Custom mech geography

2) Custom cammo and cammo underlays

3) Custom hud options

4) Custom mech bays (I posted extensively on how this could and should be done)

5) PvE campaigns - but only if they were cbill unlockable also (for large sums of cbills, like 20 milion per campaign)

there are hundreds of mechs still to do, but yes, it is getting very tired, and mech packs are too frequent. I'd go for single player and co-op PvE campaigns as a good item to sell.

Customization.

People pay bajillions for hats in TF. Let me pay for different Atlas skulls, or different paint overlays for mechs.

Hmmm, I feel like offering PvE campaigns for free/Cbills is a bit counter intuitive. How would they make a profit off of it? PvE campaigns would be a large & expensive project.

While I would not remove Mech Packs, there are other things they can do that might require less effort from the art department. They can have branded weapons that increase XP/Loyalty earned. For example:

Posted Image

Magna Hellstar PPC - +5% Mech XP earned.
Donal PPC - +5% Loyalty Points earned.
Kinslaughter PPC - +3% C-bills earned.

Martell Medium Laser - +1% C-bills earned (max 6%).
Diverse Optics Type 2 Medium Laser - +1.5% Mech XP earned (max 9%).
Omicron 4000 Medium Laser - +1.5% Loyalty earned (max 9%).

Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC - ...you get the idea.

Posted Image

Other things to note.

When the enemy checks out your mech, they see the full name of the weapon instead of just generic LB 10X AC (they should see Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC or something.

These weapons should be of a different color in mech lab and when seen by the enemy (just follow the MMO color code of green blue purple orange).

Higher 'quality' weapons can just combine bonuses.

Green - XP, Loyalty or C-bills
Blue - Two of the above
Purple - All three
Orange - All three and slightly higher. Can only equip one of this.

This doesn't require much work from the art team, but will require coding to include the new system and update the end of match rewards.

Also as a bonus:

PGI can make limited use branded weapons. Meaning these weapons have a certain number of matches before they break (paid ones should not break). But to give them out for free without flooding the market, each type can be given as prizes, end of match rewards or loot boxes and have 5-30 uses each before they break and disappear.

If you want to be sneaky, include the kill count on the temp weapons and before they break, give the player an option to buy it for MC to make it permanent and it retains the kill count stat.

Edit:

Other bonuses could include a chance of refunding a decent percentage of c-bill consumable costs at the end of the match should you happen to use one or send messages in the battle such as:

"Elizander has been killed by EliteMechWarrior's Magna Hellstar PPC!"

For the permanent weapons, add a kill counter ala Dota 2 items or a damage counter. Make friendly kills reduce this number too.

This is a great idea. +1 This one deserves it's own thread & ppl advocating it.

To clarify, I'm not advocating mech packs disappear, just less frequent.

no i was quite serious.

the problem with cockpit items is you cant really show them off. only spectators can see them and only when youre dead.

we need items we can put on the outside of our mech.

I should be able to have an atlas with a tophat. or a stalker with a moustache. or a spider with a cape. because why the !@#$ not. PGI makes money. I get to spend MC on funny crap. everyone wins.

its not like PGI has to worry about MWO becoming a joke.

Adding custom lights to your mechs. floodlights, light ropes, searchlights. which can be toggled on or off. color can be selected
Mech Taunts: If i can get my Atlas to Drop it like it's hot, i would starting taking my atlas out of the hangars again!

Also i'd like a PVE mode. Maybe in the Jihad era against Blake forces? Or Amaris civil war against Amaris forces. and the prize for completing the challenge are 3 variants of the Rampage mech.

they could sell death animations too

like the ebon jaguar used to breakdance when it died. they totally couldve sold that for MC.

"its not a bug its a premium feature. 500 MC pls."

so many missed opportunities for PGI to make money... and they just keep selling boring mech packs. game has way too many mechs already and way too many of them are similar. like wtf is the difference between a zeus and an awesome, theyre both fatass re tarded assaults ill never play.

but how many people would shell out MC for a zeus if they could have the pimp zeus from maximum tech with the badass cooling fins. Plus if you could have a snorkel and flippers too. PGI could make so much money selling mech costume props lol.

Spoiler

My suggestion is to make a levelling system which goes along with the new piloting tree. So just like in many MMORPG's, level up to go to a higher rank which enables you to be qualified for PvE campaigns, which make sense because the missions are getting harder and harder which requires experience. To go to a higher rank (which unlocks PvE campaigns) you have to do multiplayer missions. So you get cbills, experience and mech xp. With the grinded general xp, cbills and new unlocked/bought mechs you can enter the PvE campaigns.

In PvE you also acquire mech xp, and cbills but not enough to actually play only PvE. This way players are also active online and not only on PvE missions. The goal with this is to lower the impact of PvE on the already thin Online Player base. The amount of grinding online can be adjusted through the amount of XP you get from PvE missions.

prototype weapon packs!

these would be weapons that canonically arent in production yet, but where prototypes exist and are available on the black market. they of course would not be all that they are cracked up to be, they would have intentional bugs with them. they would jam and periodically stop working, but should in theory still have an advantage.

I want prices for colors to come down a bit. Then I wouldn't feel like getting ripped off, and I might actually start buying some. As of right now...it's just not enticing enough.
